At 97 years of age, most people expect rest and comfort — not surgery. But sometimes, courage and faith rewrite what seems impossible.

A 97-year-old lady came to us with severe abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction. She had already been refused surgery in two other hospitals because of her age and the high risk involved. When she reached us, she was in distress — wincing in pain that no medication could ease.

We explained to her and her family the seriousness of her condition and the potential risks of surgery at her age. Despite that, she and her family showed immense faith and accepted the challenge — and we, too, placed our trust in God and in the strength of the human spirit.

In the operation, we found a tumor in the small bowel causing a complete blockage. The obstruction was relieved by performing an ileotransverse anastomosis — a delicate bowel joining procedure. Performing such an anastomosis without creating a stoma in a 97-year-old is a rare and brave decision, but we believed in her will to live.

With God’s grace, everything went smoothly. The pain that once brought tears to her eyes disappeared. Within days, she started tolerating food normally and is now ready for discharge.

This case reminds us that age is just a number — it is not the age, but the fitness, faith, and willpower that decide the outcome. Sometimes, science and spirituality walk hand in hand to bring healing.

Faith, skill, and courage — together, they can make even the toughest battles winnable.
