FAQs

Is Endometrial Biopsy Painful?

+
During an endometrial biopsy, you may experience some cramping or discomfort, similar to menstrual cramps, when the sample is taken. Local anesthesia may be used, but significant pain is uncommon.

What is done before the Endometrial Biopsy?

+
Your doctor may ask you to avoid using tampons, douches, or vaginal medications for a few days before the biopsy. You may also need to stop taking certain medications, particularly blood thinners, to reduce the risk of bleeding.

What is done after the Endometrial Biopsy?

+
After the biopsy, you might experience some light bleeding or cramping. You’ll be advised to rest for the remainder of the day and avoid using tampons for a few days. If you notice heavy bleeding, fever, or severe pain, you should contact your doctor.

What happens during an Endometrial Biopsy?

+
During an endometrial biopsy, you will lie on your back with your feet in stirrups. A speculum is inserted into the vagina to keep it open, and a thin, flexible tube (catheter) is gently passed through the cervix into the uterus. A small tissue sample is taken from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) using the catheter.

Who is going to be performing the process?

+
An endometrial biopsy is typically performed by a Surgical Oncologist or Gynaecologist. They have the necessary training to perform the procedure safely.

How long should I have to stay in the hospital?

+
Endometrial biopsies are usually done in a doctor’s office or outpatient setting, and you can go home the same day after the procedure.

When do I get my Results?

+
It usually takes about 3-7 days to receive biopsy results, depending on the complexity of the biopsy and laboratory processing time. At CION Cancer Clinics, we aim to provide you with the results as quickly as possible.

What are the Risks involved?

+
The risks of an endometrial biopsy include light bleeding, infection, and, in rare cases, injury to the uterus. If you experience severe symptoms like heavy bleeding or infection signs after the procedure, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
