After the biopsy, you might experience some light bleeding or cramping. You’ll be advised to rest for the remainder of the day and avoid using tampons for a few days. If you notice heavy bleeding, fever, or severe pain, you should contact your doctor.

During an endometrial biopsy, you will lie on your back with your feet in stirrups. A speculum is inserted into the vagina to keep it open, and a thin, flexible tube (catheter) is gently passed through the cervix into the uterus. A small tissue sample is taken from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) using the catheter.

An endometrial biopsy is typically performed by a Surgical Oncologist or Gynaecologist. They have the necessary training to perform the procedure safely.

Endometrial biopsies are usually done in a doctor’s office or outpatient setting, and you can go home the same day after the procedure.
