What is IMRT (Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy)?
IMRT is an advanced form of 3D-conformal radiotherapy where the intensity of each radiation beam is modulated dynamically using multi-leaf collimators (MLCs) — thin tungsten leaves inside the Linac that slide in and out hundreds of times per session to shape the dose.
Instead of a uniform beam, IMRT delivers radiation from 5–9 fixed angles, with each angle subdivided into dozens of small "beamlets" of varying intensity. The result is a dose distribution that wraps tightly around the tumour while curving around critical organs — the spinal cord, parotid glands, brainstem, rectum, bowel, and others depending on the site.

- Fatigue that accumulates gradually; usually mild-to-moderate.
- Head & neck: mucositis, taste changes, dry mouth (much milder than 3DCRT).
