Choosing Your Scan

Value for Money vs Deep Detect — What’s the Difference?

Both are the same high-quality whole-body PET-CT scan — the scanners are much alike. What sets them apart is the experience of the nuclear medicine specialist who reads your scan, because in PET-CT it’s the expert’s eye, not the machine, that finds the answer.

Value for Money

₹10,499from

Best for: routine screening, staging a known cancer, and follow-up — clear, straightforward cases.

  • Read by a qualified, well-trained nuclear medicine doctor.
  • Accurate, dependable reporting for the vast majority of cases.
  • Oncologist-reviewed report and a free ₹950 consultation included.
  • The cost-effective choice when the picture is clear-cut.

Not sure which one you need? Tell us about your case when you book and our team will match you with the right specialist for your scan — there’s no extra cost to ask.

Your Specialist Report

Why the Nuclear Medicine Specialist Matters More Than the Machine

A PET-CT scan generates thousands of images. Making sense of them — for your specific situation — takes a specialist.

The Machine is just a tool. What it cannot do is read those images in the context of who you are.

That is the nuclear medicine specialist’s job. And it is a skill built over years of subspecialty training in nuclear medicine and oncology — not something any machine can replicate.

4.3× Higher error rate among trainees vs senior specialists — 43.3% vs 10.0% in PET-CT staging reads
36% Of cases had staging changed when a subspecialist reviewed a scan previously read by a general radiologist
68% vs 15% Quality grade achieved by subspecialist vs general radiologist reports on the same PET-CT scans

Comparative effectiveness of standard vs. AI-assisted PET/CT reading in lymphoma staging — multi-institutional reader study, European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (PMC11440880).   Specialized second-opinion radiology review of PET/CT for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, Journal of Nuclear Medicine (PMC5758264).

Years of subspecialty training behind every reading

A nuclear medicine specialist completes years of postgraduate training specifically in PET-CT interpretation and oncologic imaging. Every reading draws on thousands of prior cases — pattern recognition that only comes with deep, focused experience.

Your full story, read into every scan

Your history, your symptoms, your previous scans, your biopsy results — a nuclear medicine specialist reads all of this alongside the images. A 5 mm node in an otherwise healthy person means something very different in a patient three months post-chemotherapy. Only a human expert can make that distinction.

The findings that change everything

Incidental findings — a lung nodule spotted during a prostate cancer scan, an unexpected lesion on the liver — can change a patient’s care pathway entirely. A trained nuclear medicine specialist looks at the whole image, not just what was asked for. That thoroughness has saved lives.

A report built for treatment decisions, not filing

A good nuclear medicine specialist’s report does not describe images — it answers clinical questions. Is this cancer? Has it spread? Is the treatment working? The answers are structured for staging (TNM), treatment response (RECIST), and tumour board review. That structured report is what your oncologist acts on.

Every CION PET-CT scan comes with an oncologist-reviewed report.

We do not send you images and leave you to figure out what they mean. Every scan booked through CION is reviewed by a specialist before the report reaches you — and includes a free ₹950 consultation where an oncologist walks you through the findings and tells you the right next step.

Did you know?

A PET-CT scan combines two scans in one — a PET scan that shows how your tissues are working and a CT scan that shows their structure. Together they give a clearer, more accurate picture than either scan alone. A small, safe amount of tracer collects in more active areas of the body, so they show up clearly on the scan.

Preparing for Your Scan

How to Prepare for Your PET-CT Scan

A PET-CT scan is simple and painless, and a little preparation helps it go smoothly. Here’s what to do before, during and after your scan — our team will also confirm everything with you when you book.

Before your scan

  • Avoid eating or drinking anything except water for 6 hours before your scan.
  • Tell our team about any medications you’re taking — ideally at least a day before your scan.
  • Your serum creatinine (a measure of kidney function) should be within the normal range; share any recent test results if you have them.
  • If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, make sure it’s well under control before your scan.
  • Be ready to lie still inside the scanner — an enclosed space — for about 15 minutes.
  • Bring any previous PET-CT reports and your other medical reports, so we can compare and review them.

During and after your scan

A few simple steps help your scan go smoothly and keep everyone comfortable:

  • Wear comfortable, easy-to-remove clothing — you’ll be asked to change into a gown.
  • Remove all metal items, including jewellery, belts and similar.
  • Try to stay completely still during the scan.
  • For about 6 to 12 hours afterwards, avoid close contact with children under the age of 5.
  • Drink plenty of water after your scan to help flush the tracer from your body.
  • Avoid any strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your scan.

About the Scan

What Is a PET-CT Scan?

A PET-CT scan combines two scans in one — a PET scan that shows how your tissues are working and a CT scan that shows their structure. Together they give a clearer, more accurate picture than either scan alone. A small, safe amount of a tracer is used, which collects in more active areas of the body so they show up clearly on the scan.

In Hyderabad, CION offers PET-CT scans through partner PET-CT centres, with your report reviewed by an oncologist so the findings are explained in the context of your overall care.

What It Shows

What a PET-CT Scan Shows

A PET-CT scan is used most often in cancer care. Your doctor may recommend one to:

  • Find a suspected cancer and see how far it has spread (staging).
  • Check whether a treatment is working.
  • Look for any return of disease after treatment.
  • Help with some heart and brain conditions, depending on what your doctor is looking for.

What does a PET-CT scan show?

It is used most often in cancer care to find a tumour, see how far it has spread, check whether treatment is working and look for any return of disease. It is also used for some heart and brain conditions.

Where can I get a PET-CT scan in Hyderabad?

Through four partner PET-CT centres across Hyderabad — Banjara Hills, Punjagutta, Himayatnagar and Narayanaguda — so you can pick the one closest to you.
