Looking for clear information on prostate biopsy cost in Hyderabad? A prostate biopsy takes small tissue samples from the prostate so a pathologist can confirm or rule out prostate cancer — it is the only test that gives a definite answer. It is usually advised after a raised PSA or a suspicious MRI, and can be done as a TRUS-guided, transperineal, or MRI-fusion (targeted) biopsy. At CION, a prostate biopsy is performed by a specialist and reviewed by a tumour board, so the result is graded and explained clearly. Your first consultation is free.
Starting from ₹12,000
There is no single price for a prostate biopsy — it depends mainly on the method and the laboratory testing. The table below lists the common approaches. Your exact, confirmed price is shared once your prescription and reports are reviewed. Histopathology and any special tests (such as IHC, molecular testing or flow cytometry) are charged separately — see below.
| Prostate biopsy method | What it involves | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| TRUS-guided prostate biopsy | TRUS uses a probe in the back passage to take systematic cores | ₹12,000 |
| Transperineal prostate biopsy | Through the skin between scrotum and back passage; lower infection risk | ₹20,000–30,000 |
| MRI-fusion (targeted) prostate biopsy | mpMRI fused with live ultrasound to sample the exact flagged area | ₹30,000–45,000 |
Prices shown are indicative and may vary by site, image guidance and the pathology testing required. The TRUS-guided price includes the tissue sample (histopathology); for the other methods, histopathology and any special tests (IHC / molecular) may be billed separately unless stated.
A prostate biopsy is usually recommended when a PSA blood test is raised or rising, a digital rectal examination feels abnormal, or a multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) shows a suspicious area. Increasingly, an mpMRI is done first so that any suspicious area can be targeted, rather than relying on random sampling alone. You can read more about the scan on our prostate MRI (mpMRI) cost page.
CION Cancer Clinics coordinates prostate biopsy across its Hyderabad network, with the cost shared up front once your reports are reviewed. Because the procedure is done by a cancer specialist rather than a generic diagnostic surgeon, there is less chance of a non-diagnostic sample and a repeat biopsy. This page is part of our wider guide to biopsy cost in Hyderabad.
Doing an mpMRI before a prostate biopsy and targeting suspicious areas improves the detection of significant prostate cancer, and a reassuring MRI can spare some men an immediate biopsy. As summarised by the U.S. National Cancer Institute, MRI-targeted biopsy has changed how prostate cancer is diagnosed.
Prostate biopsies are grouped by how the needle reaches the gland. The three common approaches in Hyderabad are:
A multiparametric MRI scores any suspicious area (using a system called PI-RADS) before a biopsy. A low score may mean a biopsy can be safely deferred; a higher score lets the biopsy be targeted to that exact spot. Your doctor decides based on your MRI and PSA. When a target is flagged, the biopsy can be done as an MRI-targeted (fusion) biopsy.

Bring your PSA, MRI or report. Our oncologists help you understand it — and you're welcome to a free written second opinion before you commit to anything.
You will usually be given antibiotics, and for a TRUS biopsy an enema may be advised; you may be asked to pause blood thinners or anticoagulants, only as directed by your doctor. The biopsy is a day-care procedure under local anaesthetic (sometimes light sedation) and takes about 20-30 minutes. You go home the same day.
It is normal to see a little blood in the urine, semen or stool for a short time afterwards — this settles on its own. Infection is uncommon because precautions are taken, and difficulty passing urine is rare. You will be told what to watch for and when to seek help.
A histopathology report usually takes about 3-7 working days. If cancer is found, it is given a Gleason score and Grade Group that describe how aggressive it is. At CION, the result is reviewed by a tumour board and explained with a clear next step, and you are welcome to a free written second opinion. Only a biopsy can confirm prostate cancer and grade it — a PSA test or MRI cannot. The grade and extent then guide whether care focuses on surgery, radiotherapy, active surveillance or a combination. If your biopsy raises a concern, CION's oncology team can guide the next step.

It depends on the method — TRUS-guided, transperineal, or MRI-fusion — and the laboratory work, which is separate. CION shares an indicative cost once your reports are reviewed, and the first consultation is free.
TRUS uses an ultrasound probe in the back passage to take systematic cores; transperineal goes through the skin and lowers infection risk; MRI-fusion combines the MRI with live ultrasound to target the exact suspicious area. Your doctor advises which suits you.
Increasingly, yes. A multiparametric MRI can let some men safely defer a biopsy and lets others have the suspicious area targeted precisely. Your doctor decides based on your MRI and PSA.
It is done under local anaesthetic (sometimes light sedation), so discomfort is usually mild. It is a day-care procedure of about 20-30 minutes and you go home the same day.

Yes — it is the only test that can confirm prostate cancer and grade it. A PSA test or MRI can raise suspicion but cannot give a definite diagnosis.
