Looking for clear, upfront biopsy cost in Hyderabad? A biopsy removes a small sample of tissue or cells so a pathologist can examine it — and it is the only test that can confirm, or rule out, cancer for certain. What you pay depends on the type of biopsy, the site, whether image guidance is used, and the laboratory testing required. At CION, every biopsy is performed or coordinated by our oncologists, image-guided for accuracy where needed, and reviewed by a tumour board. Your first consultation is free.
Starting from ₹6,000
There is no single price for a biopsy — it depends mainly on the technique and the laboratory testing. The table below is an indicative guide for common biopsies. Your exact, confirmed price is shared once your prescription and reports are reviewed. Histopathology and any special tests (such as IHC or molecular testing) are charged separately — see below.
| Biopsy type | Starting price |
|---|---|
| FNAC (fine needle aspiration) | From ₹8,000 |
| Core needle biopsy | From ₹7,500 |
| Image-guided biopsy (ultrasound / CT) | ₹7,000–13,000 |
| Bone marrow aspiration & biopsy | From ₹12,000 |
| Endoscopic biopsy | By referral |
| Surgical (excisional / incisional) biopsy | ₹20,000–25,000 |
| Breast biopsy | From ₹6,000 |
| Prostate biopsy | From ₹12,000 |
| Liquid biopsy (blood test) | ₹35,000–37,000 |
Prices shown are indicative and may vary by site, image guidance and the pathology testing required. Histopathology and any special tests (IHC / molecular) are charged separately unless stated.
A biopsy is usually advised when a scan or examination finds something suspicious that imaging alone cannot fully explain. It is worth knowing that most biopsies turn out non-cancerous — a biopsy brings clarity rather than a verdict. In Hyderabad, biopsies are offered by many hospitals and diagnostic centres, and prices vary by type and laboratory work.
CION Cancer Clinics performs and coordinates biopsies across centres in Hyderabad, supported by a wider network of 35+ partner centres across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Because the procedure is done by a cancer specialist rather than a generic diagnostic surgeon, there is less chance of a non-diagnostic sample and a repeat biopsy.
Only a biopsy can confirm cancer for certain. According to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, imaging can find a lump or mass but cannot tell whether it is benign or malignant — that needs a tissue diagnosis. And around 75–80% of breast biopsies, for example, turn out non-cancerous.
This is the single most common source of confusion, so we explain it openly. A biopsy has two parts: the procedure to collect the sample, and the laboratory examination of that sample by a pathologist (histopathology or cytopathology). The quoted procedure price usually covers only the collection. The pathology report is a separate fee, and special tests — immunohistochemistry (for example ER, PR and HER2 in breast cancer) or molecular testing — add to it. The cheapest option is not always the right one: an accurate, complete result the first time avoids the cost and delay of a repeat.
Biopsies are grouped by how the sample is taken. The most common in Hyderabad include:

Most biopsies are a short day-care procedure. For superficial lumps, the area is numbed with local anaesthetic and a needle collects the sample in a few minutes; for internal organs, image guidance is used to reach the target precisely; and for deep or difficult lesions, endoscopy or minor surgery may be needed. Most needle biopsies take 15–30 minutes and you go home the same day, with only mild soreness afterwards. For a fuller walk-through, see how to prepare for a biopsy and is a biopsy painful?
A cytology (FNAC) result is often available within a day or two, while a histopathology report typically takes about 3–7 working days; special tests such as IHC or molecular testing take longer. At CION, results are reviewed by a tumour board and explained to you with a clear next step, and you are welcome to a free written second opinion on an outside report. This is a very common worry, but it is not supported by medical evidence — modern biopsy techniques are safe and do not cause cancer to spread through the body. The needle-track seeding that people fear is extremely rare, and precautions are taken against it. Delaying or refusing a recommended biopsy is the real risk, because it delays diagnosis and treatment. We answer this fully on our dedicated page: does a biopsy spread cancer?

Biopsy prices shown are indicative and may vary by type, site, image guidance and the pathology testing required — histopathology and any special tests (such as IHC or molecular testing) are usually charged separately. Always follow the advice of a qualified doctor regarding whether a biopsy is needed and how to interpret the results.

It depends mainly on the type and the laboratory testing. A fine-needle (FNAC) test is at the lower end, while image-guided, prostate or surgical biopsies and liquid biopsy cost more. Histopathology and special tests are usually separate. CION shares an indicative cost after reviewing your reports, and the first consultation is free.
Usually not. The quoted procedure price typically covers collecting the sample; the pathologist’s examination (histopathology) is a separate fee, and special tests such as IHC (ER/PR/HER2) or molecular testing add to it. We explain this openly before you commit.
FNAC is generally the most affordable; surgical (excisional) biopsy and comprehensive liquid biopsy are at the higher end. The right choice depends on what your doctor needs to find out, not just the price.
Yes - a biopsy is the only test that can confirm cancer for certain and identify its type. Scans can find a mass but cannot tell whether it is benign or malignant; a biopsy gives the definite answer.
Most are not. Needle and core biopsies are done under local anaesthetic as a daycare procedure, with only mild soreness afterwards. Larger surgical biopsies may need sedation or general anaesthesia.
A cytology (FNAC) result is often ready in a day or two; a histopathology report usually takes about 3-7 working days, and special tests take longer. At CION, results are reviewed by a tumour board and explained with a clear next step.
No - this is not supported by medical evidence. Needle-track seeding is extremely rare and precautions are taken. Delaying a recommended biopsy is the real risk, as it delays diagnosis and treatment.
A biopsy is a prescribed procedure, so a referral is needed. If you are unsure whether you need one, our team can advise and offer a free first consultation and written second opinion.
