Looking for clear information on breast MRI cost in Hyderabad? A breast MRI is a dynamic contrast-enhanced scan of both breasts that uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves — no radiation — and is the most sensitive breast-imaging test available. It is used for high-risk screening, for women with dense breasts, to solve problems when a mammogram or ultrasound is inconclusive, and to stage a newly diagnosed breast cancer. At CION Cancer Clinics, we help you access quality breast MRI across Hyderabad through our trusted partner-centre network, with indicative pricing shared upfront. Share your prescription for a free, no-obligation cost estimate.
A breast MRI is not a replacement for a mammogram — it is an additional, highly sensitive test used in specific situations: screening women at high risk of breast cancer, assessing dense breast tissue, clarifying an uncertain finding, staging a confirmed cancer, checking the response to treatment given before surgery, and assessing breast implants. Because it uses no radiation, it can also be repeated safely.
In Hyderabad it is offered at larger centres, and prices vary by protocol and machine. CION operates centres across Hyderabad, supported by a wider network of 35+ partner centres across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. We arrange the scan your doctor has advised at a vetted partner centre near you, share an indicative price before you book, and — because we are an oncology network — make sure any concerning findings can be reviewed by a cancer specialist.
Breast MRI is the most sensitive test for detecting breast cancer and is recommended, alongside mammography, for women at high risk. As summarised by the U.S. National Cancer Institute, MRI is used in addition to — not instead of — mammography in these situations.
The table below is an indicative guide. A breast MRI is a bilateral, dynamic contrast-enhanced study, so it sits at the higher end of MRI pricing. Your exact, confirmed price is shared once your prescription is reviewed — so there are no surprises.
| Study | Indicative price |
|---|---|
| Breast MRI (bilateral, dynamic contrast-enhanced) | ₹10,100 |
| — 3T scanner, where used | On request* |
All prices are indicative and may vary by centre, protocol, field strength (1.5T / 3T) and use of contrast. A breast MRI is almost always a contrast study. *A dedicated 3T protocol is confirmed once we review your prescription. PET-CT is priced separately — see the PET-CT page.

For women at high risk of breast cancer, a breast MRI is recommended each year in addition to a mammogram, because it can detect cancers earlier than mammography alone. High risk usually means a strong family history, a known inherited gene change that raises breast-cancer risk, or previous radiotherapy to the chest at a young age. Your doctor assesses whether you meet the criteria — breast MRI screening is not recommended for women at average risk.
When breast cancer is diagnosed, an MRI can show the full extent of disease — whether there is more than one area in the breast (multifocal or multicentric disease) and whether the other breast is involved — which helps plan surgery. It is also used to check how well a cancer is shrinking when treatment is given before an operation, guiding the surgical decision.
These tests are complementary. A mammogram is the first-line test for breast screening and is very good at detecting many cancers, including tiny calcifications. Ultrasound is widely used to assess a lump and dense tissue. A breast MRI is the most sensitive of the three and is reserved for high-risk screening, staging and problem-solving — it adds to, rather than replaces, mammography. Your doctor decides the right combination.
Because it is so sensitive, a breast MRI sometimes shows areas that a mammogram and ultrasound do not — and these still need a tissue diagnosis. If an area is seen only on MRI, an MRI-guided biopsy may be used to sample it. A scan cannot confirm cancer on its own; a biopsy gives the definite answer. If a breast MRI raises a concern, CION's oncology team can review it and guide the next step.

For women who have not reached menopause, a breast MRI is usually best done in the first half of the menstrual cycle (about days 7–14) for the clearest images. It is almost always a contrast study, so kidney function may be checked and you should mention any allergy. You lie face-down with the breasts positioned in a special cushion. Because the scanner uses a strong magnet, you must remove all metal and declare any implant; screening is done first. The scan is painless and takes about 30–45 minutes. It is used for high-risk screening (alongside mammography), dense breasts, problem-solving an uncertain finding, staging a diagnosed cancer, checking treatment response, and assessing implants. Your doctor assesses whether you meet the criteria.
It is the most sensitive test, but it adds to rather than replaces a mammogram. A mammogram remains the first-line screening test; breast MRI is reserved for high-risk screening, staging and problem-solving. The tests are complementary.
It uses no radiation. A breast MRI is almost always a contrast study, using a gadolinium-based dye to highlight areas of abnormal blood supply.
Yes — because it is so sensitive, it sometimes shows areas not seen on mammography or ultrasound. These still need a tissue diagnosis, and an MRI-guided biopsy may be used to sample an MRI-only finding.
For women who have not reached menopause, it is usually best in the first half of the cycle (about days 7–14). It uses no radiation; the main consideration is the strong magnet, so any implant must be declared and you are screened first.
