The short answer
How much do TACE and TARE cost in Hyderabad?
There is no single price for TACE or TARE in Hyderabad. The bill is built from the beads or drug used, the procedure room, the scans, the stay and how many sessions you need, and your scheme or insurance then changes what you actually pay.
Why TARE usually costs much more
TARE uses radioactive beads, often called Y-90, that are made abroad for one patient and must be used within a short window. It also usually needs a separate planning procedure beforehand. Those two things make a single TARE course considerably more expensive than a single TACE session.
Why one session is rarely the whole bill
TACE is often repeated. A family budgeting for one session may face a second or third after the follow-up scan. TARE is more often given once, but not always. Ask early how many sessions the team expects, while accepting that they cannot know for certain until they see the response.

What goes into the bill?
Most estimates are built from the same few parts. Knowing them helps you compare two estimates fairly.
The procedure room
Time in the angiography suite, the interventional radiologist's fee, and the nursing and anaesthesia support.
Single-use materials
The fine tubes, wires and closure devices used once and discarded. These add up faster than families expect.

The drug or beads
Conventional TACE uses a chemotherapy drug mixed with an oily dye. Drug-eluting bead TACE uses beads that release the drug slowly and cost more. TARE uses radioactive beads.

The CT or MRI before, blood tests around the procedure, and the follow-up scan.

When does the money actually get spent?

Assessment
Consultations, blood tests and a liver scan. If your scans are recent and of good quality, ask whether they can be used rather than repeated.

Scheme or insurance approval
The hospital sends the plan for pre-authorisation, which means approval before treatment. A deposit may be asked for while approval is pending.

The procedure and stay
The largest single part of the bill. For TARE, the planning procedure is a separate visit before this.

A scan and blood tests to check the response. These are sometimes outside the package.

Any repeat session
Each repeat usually needs fresh approval and a new estimate. Ask whether the first approval covers more than one session.
Schemes and insurance
Will Aarogyasri, CGHS or insurance cover it?
Often yes, when the procedure is part of an approved liver cancer treatment plan. What you pay yourself can be very different from the hospital's listed price.
Government schemes
Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS and EHS each have their own package lists, approval steps and empanelled hospitals. TACE is more commonly listed than TARE. Check with the hospital's scheme desk which package your plan falls under, and whether the beads or drug are fully included.
Cashless insurance
Most insurers cover these procedures as a day-care or inpatient treatment. Read the policy for room rent limits, which can reduce the whole claim if you choose a higher room, and for any limit on consumables.
When cover falls short
Ask the hospital's social worker or billing counsellor about charitable funds and the Prime Minister's and Chief Minister's relief funds. Applications take time, so start early.

Commonly believed
What do families often assume about the cost?
"TARE costs more, so it must work better."
The price reflects how the beads are made and handled, not how well the treatment suits you. The choice between TACE and TARE rests on the tumour, the veins and the liver.
"The cheapest quote is the same procedure."
Two estimates may cover different drugs, beads, scans or stays. Compare them line by line before deciding.
"Once approved, the scheme covers everything."
Packages have limits. Some medicines, extra days or follow-up scans may fall outside. Ask what is excluded before admission, not at discharge.
"We should wait until we have saved the full amount."
A liver cancer can grow past the point where these procedures help. Talk to the scheme desk and social worker now rather than delaying the decision.
"A hospital outside Hyderabad will always be cheaper."
The procedure fee may be lower, but travel, stay for a family member and repeat visits for follow-up scans add up. Compare the whole course, including how often you will need to return, not only the figure for one session.
"Paying for a private room makes no difference to the claim."
Many insurance policies cap room rent. Choosing a room above that limit can reduce what the insurer pays on other charges too, not just the room. Check the limit with the billing desk before you pick a room.

Common questions about TACE and TARE cost
Why won't the hospital give an exact price on the phone?
Because the plan depends on your scans and liver function. Until the team has seen them, they cannot say whether you need TACE or TARE, which beads or drug, or how long you will stay. A written estimate after the first consultation is far more useful than a phone figure.
Is drug-eluting bead TACE worth the extra cost?
Studies comparing it with conventional TACE have not shown a clear advantage for everyone, though some teams prefer it for certain patients. Ask your radiologist why they suggest one type and whether the other would be reasonable for you.
Does the planning procedure for TARE cost extra?
Usually it is billed as a separate procedure with its own scan. It checks the blood flow and whether any beads could reach the lungs or gut. Sometimes it shows TARE is not safe, and the cost of that visit is still charged. Ask about this beforehand.
Can Aarogyasri be used at any hospital?
No. Only empanelled hospitals can treat under Aarogyasri, and not every empanelled hospital provides every package. Call the hospital's Aarogyasri desk with your card details to confirm before you travel, especially if you are coming from a district.
What costs come after discharge?
Medicines to take home, repeat blood tests, the follow-up scan and travel for the review visit. If you live far from Hyderabad, ask whether the blood tests can be done nearer home and sent to the team.
Will a second session cost the same as the first?
Often similar, but not always. The area treated, the materials and the stay may differ. Ask for a fresh estimate and check whether your approval or policy needs a new request before the repeat is booked.
Are there hidden charges we should ask about?
Ask specifically about single-use materials, the drug or beads, anaesthesia support, room upgrades and any extra days. These are the items most often outside a package. A clear estimate lists each one.

A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.
How many sessions
The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.

Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.
