Hysterectomy cost in Hyderabad: how the bill for a cancer operation is built | CION Cancer Clinics

There is no single price for a hysterectomy for cancer in Hyderabad, because removing the womb alone, removing it with the ovaries and lymph nodes, and doing it through open or keyhole cuts are different operations with different stays. Your scheme or insurance then changes what you actually pay more than any of those. This page explains each part of the bill, who pays under Aarogyasri and insurance, and what to ask for in writing. CION Cancer Clinics’ surgical oncologists in Hyderabad can talk this through with you.

The short answer

Why is there no single price for a hysterectomy for cancer?

Because a hysterectomy for cancer is not one operation. Removing the womb alone, removing it with the ovaries and lymph nodes, and doing it through a large cut or through keyhole cuts are different procedures with different theatre time, different stays and different bills. Your cover then changes what you actually pay more than any of those.

What you are really paying for

The bill for a cancer hysterectomy is built up from the surgeon and theatre, the anaesthetic, the room and nursing for the days you stay, the pathology (the laboratory examination of what was removed), the consumables used in the operation, and the medicines and tests around it. A package figure bundles some of these and leaves others out, and the ones left out are where families are surprised.

What this page can and cannot do

This page explains what builds the bill in Hyderabad as of 2026, what moves it up or down, who pays under the schemes most Telangana families hold, and what to ask for in writing. It does not give a figure, because a number on a web page is not a quote. A written estimate from the centre, against your own card or policy, is the only figure worth planning around.

Nothing here is advice on whether to have the operation or where. It is here so that the cost conversation is one you can have with confidence.

Line by line

What the bill for a cancer hysterectomy contains

Ask which of these the package includes and which are billed on top. The answer differs between centres.

Surgeon and theatre

The largest single item. It rises with the extent of the operation and the time in theatre. Lymph node removal and a keyhole or robotic route both add theatre time and equipment.

Anaesthesia

Charged for the anaesthetist's time and the drugs used. A longer operation, or one where a spinal or epidural is added for pain control afterwards, costs more here.

Room and nursing

Billed per day, and the room category you choose changes almost every other charge on the bill, because many centres scale surgeon and procedure fees to the room.

Often billed on top

  • ICU or high-dependency nights
  • Attendant meals and bed
  • Blood, if transfused

Pathology and tests

The full report on the womb, ovaries and any nodes, plus extra stains where needed, and the blood tests and scans before and after. This is the item most often missing from a package figure.

Consumables and medicines

Staplers, energy devices, sutures, drains, dressings and the medicines given on the ward. Keyhole and robotic operations use more single-use equipment, which is a large part of their higher cost.

Up or down

What moves the figure for the same operation

Usually costs more Usually costs less
Womb, ovaries and lymph nodes removed together Womb alone, where the cancer allows it
Keyhole or robotic route, with more single-use equipment Open route, with a longer stay but cheaper equipment
A private or deluxe room, which scales other fees A general or twin-sharing room
A complication that extends the stay or needs the ICU A straightforward recovery and discharge on time
Extra pathology stains or a frozen-section check during surgery Standard pathology only

One field. No form to fill in, and no charge for the call.

In order

When the costs actually arise

  1. Before admission

Consultations, the biopsy if not already done, scans, blood tests and the fitness check with the anaesthetist. Under a scheme, this is also when pre-authorisation is applied for.

  2. On admission

A deposit or an approval letter. For cashless insurance the insurer's approval is usually for an initial amount that is revised later, so the first letter is not the final cover.

  3. The operation and the stay

Theatre, anaesthesia, consumables, room, nursing and medicines. Each extra day adds a day's room and nursing charges, which is why a complication changes the bill more than any other single thing.

  4. At discharge

The final bill is settled against the approval. Items the scheme or insurer does not cover are paid by you. Ask for an itemised copy.

  5. After discharge

Medicines to take home, wound visits, the pathology appointment, and any further treatment the report leads to. Budget for this separately from the operation.

Schemes and insurance

Who pays, and what is usually left for you

For most families in Telangana the out-of-pocket cost of a cancer hysterectomy is very different from the sticker figure, because the operation falls under Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or a cashless insurance policy. Which one you hold decides the room you are entitled to, the ceiling on the package and what falls outside it.

Aarogyasri and the government schemes

Cancer surgery is a covered category under Aarogyasri, and the procedure is paid at a fixed package rate to an empanelled hospital. The package usually includes the stay, the operation and standard medicines, in a general ward. Costs above the package, a higher room category or items outside the list are the family's. CGHS, ECHS and EHS work in a similar way with their own rate lists and room entitlements. Approval takes time, so start the paperwork the day surgery is advised.

Cashless insurance

Most cashless insurers cover a cancer hysterectomy, but the policy's room-rent limit, co-payment and list of non-payable items decide what you pay. Consumables and some pathology are commonly excluded. Ask the insurer's desk to explain the exclusions before admission, not at discharge.

CION does not offer EMI for surgery. If cost is the barrier, say so to the helpline. Scheme eligibility is the first thing checked.

Before you agree

What a written estimate should spell out

  • The exact operation planned, including whether ovaries and lymph nodes are removed
  • The route, open or keyhole, and the reason for it
  • The room category and the expected number of nights
  • What the package includes and every item billed on top
  • Whether pathology, blood and ICU are inside or outside the figure
  • What your scheme or insurer has approved and what is left to you
  • The follow-up visits that are included and those that are not
  • Who to contact if the bill changes during the stay

Commonly believed

Four things families believe about the cost, and what is true

"The package figure is what we will pay."

A package is a starting point. Pathology, blood, ICU nights, a higher room and take-home medicines are the usual reasons the final bill differs from it. Ask for the list of exclusions in writing, and the figure becomes far more reliable.

"Keyhole surgery is always the more expensive choice."

The operation itself usually costs more because of the equipment, but the stay is often shorter and the return to work faster. The total can end up closer than the theatre bill suggests. The route is chosen on clinical grounds, not on price.

"A cheaper hospital means a worse operation."

Price tracks room category, location and equipment far more than it tracks the surgeon's skill. What matters is a surgical oncologist who does this operation regularly, and a pathology service that reports it properly.

"Aarogyasri patients get a lesser version of the surgery."

The operation is the same. What differs is the room, the choice of consumables where equivalents exist, and the items outside the package. If you are told a scheme patient cannot have the operation their cancer needs, ask for that in writing.

Questions we are asked

Common questions about hysterectomy cost in Hyderabad

Can you just tell me roughly what it costs?

Not honestly, without knowing the operation and your cover. Two women with the same cancer can have different operations, stays and pathology, and a scheme patient and a private patient pay very different amounts for the same day in hospital. Call the helpline with your reports and your card or policy for a written estimate.

Is a cancer hysterectomy covered under Aarogyasri?

Cancer surgery is a covered category at empanelled hospitals, and a hysterectomy for a confirmed cancer is normally within it. Approval is needed before admission, and the package covers a general ward. Ask the hospital's Aarogyasri desk to start the process as soon as surgery is advised.

Why does the room I choose change the surgeon's fee?

Many hospitals in India scale procedure and consultant fees to the room category, so a private room raises more than the room charge. Insurers also cap room rent, and if you choose above the cap the whole bill can be reduced in proportion. Ask before choosing.

Will the robotic option be pushed because it costs more?

The route should be chosen on the cancer, your build and your fitness, and your surgeon should be able to explain why one route suits you. Ask what the alternative would be and how the outcome differs. A good answer is a clinical one, not a price.

What if the cancer turns out to be more advanced during surgery?

The operation may be extended, the stay may be longer and the bill will rise. Under a scheme the hospital applies for an enhancement; under insurance an additional approval is requested. Ask beforehand how this is handled so that the family is not asked to decide at the theatre door.

Does the pathology report cost extra?

Often it is billed separately from the surgical package, and extra tests on the tissue add to it. It is not an item to economise on: the report decides whether further treatment is needed. Ask whether it is inside the package and whether special stains are expected.

Are the costs after discharge covered?

Take-home medicines and follow-up visits are handled differently by each scheme and policy, and are often partly or wholly the family's. If chemotherapy or radiotherapy follows, that is a new approval. Ask for the after-surgery costs to be listed on the estimate.

Is there an EMI or instalment plan?

No. CION does not offer EMI or instalments for surgery. What can be done is to check every scheme you may qualify for, confirm your insurance exclusions before admission, and choose a room category that keeps the bill within your cover. The helpline will walk through those with you.

What moves the figure

What affects the cost

Four things change the total more than anything else.

The technique used

A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.

How many sessions

The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.

Supporting tests

Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.

Your cover

Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance usually change the out-of-pocket figure substantially.
