CION Cancer Clinics
What decides the cost of a maxillectomy in Hyderabad | CION Cancer Clinics
A maxillectomy in Hyderabad has no single price. How much of the upper jaw is removed, whether the gap is closed with a plate or a flap, whether the eye or neck is involved, and the length of stay all change the bill. Your scheme or insurance then changes what you pay more than any of those. This page explains each part as of 2026, and what to ask for in writing. CION Cancer Clinics’ surgical oncologists in Hyderabad can talk this through with you.

The short answer
Why is there no single price for a maxillectomy in Hyderabad?
A maxillectomy has no single price in Hyderabad because the operation ranges from removing a small part of the upper jaw to removing the whole of it, sometimes with the eye socket. What closes the gap afterwards, a removable plate or a flap of tissue, changes the bill as much as the operation itself.
What you are really paying for
The bill is built from the surgeon and theatre, the anaesthetic, time in intensive care and on the ward, the pathology (the laboratory examination of what was removed), the plate or reconstruction, and the medicines and scans around it. A package bundles some of these and leaves others out. The dental plates made after discharge are the part most often left out.
What this page can and cannot do
This page explains what builds the bill as of 2026, what moves it, who pays under the schemes most Telangana families hold, and what to ask for in writing. It does not give a figure, because a number on a web page is not a quote. Only a written estimate against your own card or policy is worth planning around.
Nothing here is advice on whether to have the operation. That decision sits with you and your treating team.Line by line
What is inside a maxillectomy bill?
Ask for the estimate split into these parts. A single bundled figure hides what is missing.
Surgeon, theatre and anaesthetic
The largest block. It covers the operating team, theatre hours and consumables. A larger operation, or one where a neck dissection or eye surgery is added, takes longer and costs more.
Usually includes
- Surgical and anaesthesia fees
- Theatre time and devices
ICU, room and nursing
Many people spend a short time in intensive care, then move to a ward. The room category changes the daily rate and, under many policies, how much the insurer pays on every other line.
The plate or the flap
Closing the gap with an obturator means prosthodontist fees for a surgical plate and later plates. Closing it with a flap means a longer operation and often a longer stay.
Later plates and implants are often billed apart from the surgical package.Pathology, scans and medicines
The removed tissue goes to the laboratory, and that report guides what follows. Scans, blood tests, drips and antibiotics are separate lines unless the package says otherwise. Radiotherapy afterwards has its own bill.

Schemes and insurance
Who pays under Aarogyasri, CGHS or insurance?
What you pay out of pocket depends far more on your cover than on the operation. A maxillectomy for cancer is a recognised cancer surgery, so it is usually eligible under the schemes below when the centre is empanelled and approval is taken before admission.
Aarogyasri
Aarogyasri pays for listed cancer surgeries up to a package ceiling at empanelled hospitals, with pre-authorisation on the card. Ask the scheme desk whether the operation, the ICU stay, the surgical plate and any flap all sit within that ceiling. Room upgrades and later dental plates usually do not.
CGHS, ECHS and EHS
Central government, ex-servicemen and state employee schemes pay fixed rates for listed procedures, with approval taken before admission. If the hospital rate is above the scheme rate, the difference is billed to you, so ask for that gap in writing.
Cashless insurance
Most insurers approve cancer surgery on pre-authorisation. Check the room rent limit, waiting periods and co-payment clauses. Ask separately whether the prosthodontist's plates count as part of the treatment, because policies differ on dental work.
There is no EMI offer at CION. If a desk cannot say in writing what is covered, ask again before admission. Before admission
How do you get an estimate you can plan around?
Get the plan in words
Ask the surgeon to write down the type of maxillectomy planned, how the gap will be closed, and whether the eye or neck is involved. The estimate can only be as exact as this plan.
Take your card or policy to the desk
Bring your Aarogyasri card, CGHS, ECHS or EHS papers, or insurance policy. The desk can check eligibility and start pre-authorisation before you are admitted.
Ask for a split estimate
Request the surgery, the stay, the plate or flap, and the dental work after discharge as separate lines, along with what an extra day in hospital would add.
Confirm the balance
Once approval comes back, ask for the amount that stays with your family in writing. Keep a copy with your reports for the day of admission.
On the estimate
What do the words on the estimate mean?
- Package
- A fixed amount covering a set operation and a set stay. Anything outside that set is billed on top.
- Pre-authorisation
- Written approval from your scheme or insurer before admission, saying what they will pay.
- Room rent limit
- The highest room charge a policy pays per day. A costlier room can shrink what the insurer pays on other lines too.
- Co-payment
- A share of the approved bill that your policy says you must pay yourself.
- Exclusions
- Items the package or policy does not pay for, such as some consumables or later dental plates.
Commonly believed
What do families believe about maxillectomy cost, and what is true?
A package usually covers a set operation and stay. Extra ICU days, a return to theatre, a flap instead of a plate or later plates often sit outside it. Ask what is excluded, not only what is included.
A flap and a plate each suit different gaps and different people. The choice is made on the size of the defect, your health and radiotherapy plans, not on price. Ask your surgeon why one is being suggested for you.
The plate is relined and remade as the mouth heals, and dental reviews continue for life. Radiotherapy, travel from a district and follow-up scans also add up. Plan for these from the start.
Aarogyasri pays up to a ceiling for the listed procedure at an empanelled centre. Anything above that ceiling, a room upgrade and work after discharge may be yours to pay. The scheme desk can tell you the gap before admission.
Questions we are asked
Common questions about the cost of a maxillectomy
Can you just tell me roughly what a maxillectomy costs in Hyderabad?
Not honestly from a web page. The figure depends on how much of the jaw is removed, how the gap is closed, how long the stay runs and what your card or policy pays. Two people with the same cancer can get very different bills. Call the helpline with your plan and cover for an estimate.
Is the obturator included in the surgery cost?
The surgical plate fitted during the operation is often included. The plates made in the months after, and any implants, frequently are not. Ask for the dental and prosthetic work to be listed separately on the estimate, so you know which part your cover pays for.
Does removal of the eye add to the bill?
Usually, yes. It lengthens the operation, may need a flap to fill the socket, and later an artificial eye or facial prosthesis. Whether the eye needs removing is decided on where the cancer sits, so ask your surgeon to explain that before you discuss cost.
Do I pay for radiotherapy separately?
Yes. Radiotherapy after surgery is a separate course with its own approval and bill. Many people with cancer of the upper jaw need it, so ask for both estimates at the start. The scheme desk can often raise both approvals together to save time.
What happens to the bill if there is a complication?
The stay lengthens and there may be extra tests, medicines or a return to theatre. These usually sit outside a package. Ask before admission what an extra day and a return to theatre would cost, and whether your cover would approve them.
Does choosing a private room change what insurance pays?
Under many policies, yes. If your room rent goes above the policy limit, the insurer may cut its share of every other line by the same proportion. Ask the insurance desk to explain the clause before you pick the room.
We live in a district. What costs should we plan for beyond the hospital?
Travel for the plate fittings and reviews, a place to stay in Hyderabad for a family member, soft foods and supplements, and time away from work. None of these appears on a hospital estimate. Ask the team how many visits to expect in the first months.
Is there an EMI or instalment plan?
No. CION does not offer EMI on surgery. What does exist is scheme cover, cashless insurance and, for some families, employer reimbursement. The helpline can check which of these applies to you before admission, so that the balance you carry is known.
What moves the figure
What affects the cost
Four things change the total more than anything else.
The technique used
A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.
How many sessions
The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.
Supporting tests
Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.
Your cover
Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance usually change the out-of-pocket figure substantially.
Paying for it
Insurance, schemes and payment
What you actually pay usually differs a great deal from the sticker figure.
