CION Cancer Clinics
What fertility preservation costs in Hyderabad, and what builds the bill | CION Cancer Clinics
Fertility preservation in Hyderabad has no single price. Sperm banking usually costs the least. Egg and embryo freezing cost more, because they need hormone injections, an egg collection and laboratory freezing. Surgery-based options add theatre time and a stay. Every option also carries a storage charge that continues each year. This page explains each part of the bill as of 2026, and what to check with your scheme or insurer. CION Cancer Clinics’ surgical oncologists in Hyderabad can talk this through with you.

The short answer
How much does fertility preservation cost in Hyderabad?
There is no single price, because each option is a different piece of work. Sperm banking usually sits at the lower end. Egg and embryo freezing cost more, and the operations that protect the ovaries or freeze ovarian tissue sit at the upper end.
Why the options are priced so differently
Sperm banking needs a sample, a laboratory and a freezer. Egg freezing needs hormone injections, repeated scans, a short procedure under sedation to collect the eggs, and skilled laboratory time. Embryo freezing adds the step of joining eggs and sperm. Ovarian tissue freezing and ovarian transposition are operations, so theatre time, anaesthesia and a hospital stay are added.
The cost that keeps going
Frozen eggs, sperm, embryos and tissue are stored in a tank, and storage is charged separately, usually as a yearly renewal. Using what you stored later, through fertility treatment, is a separate bill again. Families are often surprised by both.
What this page cannot tell you
We cannot give you a figure here. The price depends on the option your team suggests, the centre, and how your body responds to the injections. Ask for a written estimate that lists each part.
Indicative cost
Which option sits in which cost band?
Relative bands as of 2026, not quotes. Where you fall depends on the plan your team makes and on your cover.
Sperm banking
One or more samples frozen in the laboratory. Surgical sperm retrieval, if a sample cannot be given, moves it up a band.
Egg or embryo freezing
Hormone injections, scans, an egg collection and laboratory freezing. Medicines are a large share of the bill.
Surgery-based options
Ovarian tissue freezing or moving the ovaries before pelvic radiation. Theatre, anaesthesia and a stay are added.
Indicative only, for 2026. Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS and EHS are accepted for cancer care, and most cashless insurers are empanelled, but fertility preservation is often assessed separately from the cancer treatment itself. There is no EMI scheme. Call the helpline for an estimate against your own cover.
Line by line
What actually goes into the bill?
Ask for each of these to appear on the estimate, so nothing turns up as a surprise later.
Consultations and tests
A visit with the fertility specialist, blood tests for hormone levels and infection screening, and a scan of the ovaries or a semen test. These come before anything is frozen.
Hormone medicines
For egg and embryo freezing, daily injections help several eggs grow at once. The amount you need depends on your body, so this part of the bill varies the most between people.
Ask whether the estimate includes medicines or lists them separately.Collection and laboratory
The egg collection under sedation, or the sperm sample, followed by freezing in the laboratory.
Often charged separately
- Sedation and day-care bed
- Freezing and straws or vials
- Joining eggs and sperm, for embryos
Storage and later use
A yearly storage renewal for as long as samples stay frozen. Thawing and fertility treatment in the future are billed at that time, not now.

Over time
When do you pay for what?
-
Before cancer treatment starts
The first consultation and tests are paid for straight away, often on the same day. Because the window before chemotherapy or radiation is short, there is little time to compare prices, so ask for the estimate at this visit.
-
During stimulation
Hormone medicines are usually bought as the cycle goes on. Some centres take a deposit for the whole cycle at the start.
-
On the day of collection or surgery
The collection, sedation and laboratory freezing are billed together. For surgery-based options, the theatre and stay are billed with the admission.
-
Every year after
Storage renewals continue until you use the samples or decide to stop storing them. Keep the contact details of the storage bank current, and keep the receipts.
-
When you want to try for a child
Thawing and fertility treatment come later, sometimes years later. That cost is separate and depends on what is done at that time.
Schemes and insurance
What should you check with your scheme or insurer?
Being straight with you
Should cost decide which option you choose?
Cost matters, but it is rarely the only thing that decides. The option has to fit your cancer, your age, the time before treatment and whether you have a partner. The cheaper option is not always possible, and the more expensive one is not always better.
Who some options do not suit
Egg freezing is not suitable if your cancer treatment cannot wait for a stimulation cycle, or if the hormones are a concern for your type of cancer. Ovarian tissue freezing is not offered everywhere and is still considered newer. Sperm banking is not possible for boys who have not yet gone through puberty. Your team weighs these before cost comes into it.
If money is the reason you are hesitating
Say so to your oncologist and the fertility specialist. There may be a simpler option, or a way to store fewer samples. What matters is that the decision is made before treatment begins, because afterwards some options are no longer available.
Never delay cancer treatment to raise money for fertility preservation without first talking to your oncologist about the risks.Commonly believed
What do families often get wrong about the cost?
A quote for egg freezing often covers the collection and freezing but not the medicines or storage. Ask what is included, and ask for the yearly storage charge in writing before you sign.
Sometimes it does, often it does not. Policies are written around treating the cancer. Call your insurer or the scheme desk with the planned option and ask directly, before the first injection.
Chemotherapy and pelvic radiation can damage eggs and sperm. For many people the chance to freeze them is before treatment, not after. Waiting to save money can mean the option is gone.
A higher price reflects the work involved, not the result. No option promises a pregnancy. Your age and your cancer affect the chance far more than the amount spent.
Questions we are asked
Common questions about fertility preservation cost
Is sperm banking really the cheapest option?
Usually, yes. It needs only a sample, laboratory freezing and storage. It moves up in cost if a sample cannot be given and sperm has to be collected surgically. Storage renewals still apply every year, so ask for that figure along with the first bill.
Why is egg freezing so much more expensive?
Because it involves hormone injections, several scans, a short procedure under sedation and skilled laboratory work. The medicines alone can be a large part of the bill, and the dose varies from person to person. That is why two people at the same centre can pay quite different amounts.
Does Aarogyasri pay for freezing eggs or sperm?
Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS and EHS are built around cancer treatment, and fertility preservation is often assessed separately. Cover can differ by scheme and can change. Take the planned option and the estimate to the scheme desk and ask before treatment starts, so you know what you will pay yourself.
Will my health insurance cover it?
It depends on your policy. Some cover an operation done as part of cancer care, such as moving the ovaries, but not egg or sperm freezing. Ask your insurer in writing, naming the exact option, and ask whether medicines and storage are included or excluded.
How long do we keep paying for storage?
For as long as the samples stay frozen. Most storage banks charge a yearly renewal, and there are legal limits on how long samples can be kept. Ask the bank what the renewal costs, how you will be reminded, and what happens if a payment is missed.
Can the cost be paid in parts over time?
CION does not offer an EMI scheme. If cost is a worry, tell your oncologist and the fertility specialist early. They may be able to suggest a simpler option, and the helpline can help you understand what your scheme or insurance will pay before you commit to anything.
Do we pay again when we want to use the frozen samples?
Yes. Thawing the eggs, sperm or embryos and the fertility treatment that follows are billed when they happen, often years later. That cost is not part of the first estimate. It depends on what is needed at that time and on the centre you use.
Can I get a written estimate before starting?
You should ask for one. A good estimate lists consultations, tests, medicines, the collection or surgery, laboratory freezing and the yearly storage charge separately. It is still an estimate, not a final bill, because medicine needs and responses vary from person to person.
What moves the figure
What affects the cost
Four things change the total more than anything else.
The technique used
A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.
How many sessions
The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.
Supporting tests
Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.
Your cover
Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance usually change the out-of-pocket figure substantially.
Paying for it
Insurance, schemes and payment
What you actually pay usually differs a great deal from the sticker figure.
