A glossectomy in Hyderabad has no single price. A small operation on the side of the tongue and a total glossectomy with a flap and a tracheostomy are very different bills, and neck surgery, intensive care and radiotherapy add to them. Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance then change what you pay more than any of those. This page explains each part as of 2026. The short answer
Why is there no single price for a glossectomy in Hyderabad?
A glossectomy has no single price because the word covers several operations. It can mean removing a small piece of the tongue, half of it, or all of it. Each size brings different extra work, and the extra work drives the bill more than the tongue surgery itself.
What usually comes with it
Most tongue cancer operations also remove lymph nodes from the neck, called a neck dissection. Larger operations need a flap, tissue moved from the forearm or thigh to rebuild the tongue, which adds hours in theatre. Bigger operations often need a tracheostomy, a feeding tube and intensive care as well.

What is inside a glossectomy bill?
Ask for the estimate broken into these parts. A single bundled figure hides what is left out.
Surgeon, theatre and anaesthetic
The largest block. An operation with a neck dissection and a flap can take many hours, with a reconstructive surgeon working alongside.

ICU, room and nursing
After a flap, most people spend time in intensive care so the flap and airway can be watched. The room category changes the daily rate, and under many policies it changes what the insurer pays on other lines.
Tubes and supplies
The feeding tube and tracheostomy tube may sit inside the package. Feed, syringes and tracheostomy supplies after you go home usually do not.
Ask how much feed is sent home with you.Pathology, scans and therapy
The removed tissue goes to the laboratory, and that report decides whether radiotherapy follows. Scans, medicines and therapy sessions may be billed separately.

When does the money actually get spent?

Before the operation
Consultation, biopsy review, scans of the mouth and neck, and fitness tests. A dental check is often needed, especially if radiotherapy is likely. These usually come before any package starts.

Admission and the operation
The package, if there is one, usually starts here. Scheme or insurance approval should be in place before admission, not arranged on the day.

The hospital stay
Intensive care, the ward, tubes, medicines and nursing. Extra days, a return to theatre or a problem with the flap are the usual reasons a bill passes the estimate.

Going home
Feed, tube supplies, medicines and dressings. Travel from a district for check-ups adds up and is easy to forget.

Speech and swallowing therapy, follow-up visits, and radiotherapy if the report calls for it.

Schemes and insurance
Who pays under Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or insurance?
What you pay out of pocket depends more on your cover than on the operation. Glossectomy for tongue cancer is a recognised cancer surgery, so it is usually eligible at empanelled centres when approval is taken before admission.
Aarogyasri
Aarogyasri pays for listed cancer surgeries up to a package ceiling, with pre-authorisation on the card. Ask the scheme desk whether the neck dissection, the flap and the intensive care stay are all inside the approved package.
CGHS, ECHS and EHS
These schemes pay fixed rates for listed procedures, with approval before admission. If the hospital's rate is above the scheme rate, the difference may be billed to you, so ask for that gap in writing.
Cashless insurance
Most insurers approve tongue cancer surgery on pre-authorisation. Check the room rent limit, because a room above it can reduce what the insurer pays on every other line, and check co-payment clauses.

What do families believe about the cost, and what is true?
"A cheaper quote is for the same operation."
Two quotes can describe very different plans. One may leave out the neck dissection, the flap, intensive care or pathology. Compare what each estimate includes, line by line, before comparing totals.
"Aarogyasri covers everything, so we will pay nothing."
The scheme covers the approved package, often most of the hospital bill. Room upgrades, feed after discharge and travel usually sit outside it. Ask the desk for the list.
"A smaller operation will save money."
How much tongue is removed is decided by the cancer, not by price. Taking less than the cancer needs can mean more treatment later. If cost is a worry, say so openly.
"The estimate is the final bill."
An estimate assumes a typical stay. Extra days in intensive care or a return to theatre add to it. Ask what each extra day costs.

Common questions about glossectomy cost
How much does a glossectomy cost in Hyderabad?
It varies widely, because a small partial operation and a total glossectomy with a flap are very different bills. Neck surgery, reconstruction, intensive care and length of stay all change it. Ask for a written estimate for your surgeon's plan, checked against your own scheme or policy.
Is a glossectomy covered under Aarogyasri?
Tongue cancer surgery is a listed cancer surgery and is usually covered at empanelled hospitals, with pre-authorisation before admission. Ask the scheme desk which parts are inside the approved package, particularly room upgrades and supplies after discharge.
Does insurance cover the flap reconstruction?
Reconstruction during cancer surgery is part of treating the cancer, not cosmetic, so it is usually covered on pre-authorisation. Check your room rent limit and co-payment clauses, and confirm the flap is named in the approval.
Will radiotherapy after surgery be a separate bill?
Usually, yes. Radiotherapy has its own package and approval. Whether you need it depends on the pathology report after surgery, so the team may not know until then. Ask early how it would be covered.
Why did our final bill come to more than the estimate?
The usual reasons are extra days in intensive care or on the ward, a problem with the flap, a return to theatre, or a room above your policy's limit. Ask the billing desk for an itemised bill showing which lines went past the estimate.
Can we pay for the surgery in instalments?
There is no EMI offer at CION. What usually changes the amount a family pays is cover: Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance. Call the helpline with your card or policy details and we will help you understand what applies.
Are feed and supplies after discharge covered?
Usually not, although some first supplies may be sent home as part of the package. Ask before discharge how much feed, syringes and tracheostomy supplies you will receive, and where to buy more near home.
What should we bring to get an estimate?
Bring the biopsy report, any scans, the surgeon's written plan if you have one, and your Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS or EHS card or insurance policy. With these, the desk can estimate for the actual operation and your actual cover, not a general figure.

The technique used
A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.
How many sessions
The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.
Supporting tests
Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.
Your cover
