Which hospitals in Hyderabad do cancer surgery under Aarogyasri?
Many government and private hospitals in Hyderabad are empanelled with Aarogyasri for cancer surgery, and CION centres are among them. The official list is kept by the Aarogyasri Health Care Trust, and the scheme help desk at any network hospital can confirm whether your operation is covered there. Always check for your operation, not just the hospital's name.
Empanelled for what, exactly
Hospitals are empanelled for particular specialities. A hospital may be in the scheme for heart or kidney treatment but not for cancer surgery. For cancer operations, look for surgical oncology on that hospital's listing, or ask the help desk to confirm it in writing.
Why the operation matters too
The scheme pays for procedures it lists, each with its own package. Most common cancer operations are listed. Some newer techniques, or an operation done in an unusual way, may not match a package. The surgeon and the scheme desk work this out before admission.

How do you check a hospital will cover your operation?
Check the official list
Search the Aarogyasri Health Care Trust's list of network hospitals by district and speciality. Note two or three hospitals you can reach.
Call the hospital
Ask whether they take Aarogyasri for surgical oncology now, and which documents to bring. Empanelment can change, so an old list is not enough.
Meet the scheme desk
At the hospital, the Aarogyamithra, the scheme's help desk worker, registers the patient, checks the card and explains the steps. Visit the desk on your first day, before any bills are raised.
Wait for approval
The hospital sends the diagnosis and planned operation to the scheme for pre-authorisation, which means approval before treatment. Admission for a planned operation usually follows once it is approved.

Which card or scheme applies to your family?
The right route depends on who the patient is, not only on their income. Bring every card you hold to the first visit.
Telangana Aarogyasri
For eligible Telangana families, usually those holding a food security card, often called a white ration card. The Aarogyasri card or the ration card and Aadhaar are checked at registration.
Andhra Pradesh health card
Andhra Pradesh runs its own state scheme with its own hospital list. Some Hyderabad hospitals have been on it, but rules differ.
Ask the hospital which state scheme it accepts before you travel.Ayushman Bharat
In Telangana, the national scheme has been run alongside Aarogyasri. A family with an Ayushman card should mention it at the scheme desk.
Employee and ex-service schemes
State government employees and pensioners use EHS. Central government families use CGHS, and ex-servicemen use ECHS. These have their own approval steps.

What do families often misunderstand about Aarogyasri?
"Only government hospitals take Aarogyasri."
Many private and trust hospitals are network hospitals too. What matters is that the hospital is listed for cancer surgery and your operation matches a package. The scheme desk can confirm both.
"With the card, we will never pay anything at all."
The package covers what the scheme lists for that operation. Travel, the family's stay, a better room or items outside the package may still cost money. Ask the desk what sits outside before admission.
"We should pay now and claim the money back later."
Aarogyasri is designed to be cashless at network hospitals. Paying first can make a claim much harder. Register with the scheme desk before tests or treatment start.
"If approval is slow, the operation cannot happen."
Delays usually come from a missing document, a report that needs attaching, or questions from the scheme. Ask the desk exactly what is pending. Most delays are solved by one paper.

If something goes wrong
What if the operation is not covered or approval is refused?
Ask for the reason in writing. A refusal is often about a document, a missing report or a package mismatch rather than about the patient. The scheme desk can tell you whether the hospital can send more details or apply under a different package.
When the operation truly is not listed
Ask the surgeon whether a listed operation would do the same job for this patient. Sometimes it would, and sometimes it would not. That is a medical decision for the treating team. Do not ask them to change the operation only to fit the scheme.
When your card is not accepted
Check whether the patient qualifies for another scheme, such as EHS, CGHS, ECHS or cashless insurance through work. Some hospitals give a written estimate for self-pay. Ask for it itemised, and ask what is not included.

Is CION empanelled under Aarogyasri?
Yes. CION centres are Aarogyasri empanelled, and they also accept CGHS, ECHS, EHS and most major cashless insurers. Whether a particular operation is covered depends on the patient's eligibility and the package, so bring the card to the first visit and the desk will check.
Where is the official list of Aarogyasri hospitals?
The Aarogyasri Health Care Trust publishes the list of network hospitals, searchable by district and speciality. Lists can change, so call the hospital to confirm it still takes the scheme for surgical oncology before you travel. The Aarogyamithra at the hospital can also confirm.
What documents do we need at the scheme desk?
Usually the Aarogyasri card or food security card, Aadhaar, and every report that shows the diagnosis, especially the biopsy report. A referral letter helps where you have one. Ask the desk on the first day, because missing papers are the most common cause of delay.
How long does pre-authorisation take?
It varies with the operation, the paperwork and how busy the scheme is. Many planned approvals come through within days, but some take longer if the scheme asks questions. Ask the desk to tell you as soon as it is approved, and keep your phone on.
Can we use Aarogyasri for surgery if we live in Andhra Pradesh?
Andhra Pradesh has its own state scheme and its own hospital list. Some Hyderabad hospitals have been part of it, but rules differ. Call the hospital first and ask whether it accepts your state's card for this operation. Carry Aadhaar and the card.
Does Aarogyasri cover chemotherapy after the operation?
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are usually separate packages, each needing its own approval. If treatment after surgery is likely, ask whether the same hospital is empanelled for it too. Changing hospitals halfway can mean fresh paperwork.
What if the hospital asks us to pay for something?
Ask what the charge is for and whether it sits inside the package. Speak to the Aarogyamithra before paying. Some items can genuinely fall outside, such as a room above the scheme's ward. Keep every bill and receipt.
Can we get a second opinion without losing our scheme cover?
Yes. A consultation elsewhere does not cancel your eligibility. Carry copies of every report and the biopsy slides and blocks. If you decide to have the operation at a different network hospital, its scheme desk will register you and apply afresh.
