Where are CION's centres, and where does the operation happen?
CION has branches across Hyderabad, at Ameerpet, Kukatpally, L.B. Nagar, Tolichowki, Masab Tank, Banjara Hills, Kompally and Balanagar, and in the district towns of Siddipet and Sangareddy. You can start at whichever branch is easiest to reach. One helpline serves every branch, and it tells you where your operation itself would be done.
Why the first visit and the operation may be in different places
Consultations, reports and many follow-up visits can happen close to home. An operation needs a theatre, an anaesthesia team, beds for recovery and, for bigger operations, an ICU. So the operation is planned at a centre set up for that procedure, which may not be your nearest branch. You will know which one before you travel.
What stays the same wherever you start
Every case is discussed by medical, surgical and radiation oncologists together before a plan is confirmed. Your reports travel with you inside CION, so you do not need to repeat your story at each branch.
What this page cannot tell you
It cannot tell you whether you need an operation, which operation, or which technique. Those depend on your reports and an examination.

What happens between your first call and the operation?
Call the helpline
Tell us what has been found so far and which district you are in. We book a surgical oncologist at a branch you can reach and tell you which reports to bring.
The first consultation
The surgeon reads the reports, examines the patient and explains what is still unknown. Bring the family member who will help make decisions, so nothing has to be repeated over the phone later.
Tests and the tumour board
Scans, blood tests and a fitness check with the anaesthetist come next. Then the team meets to agree the order of treatment, which may or may not start with surgery.
The operation centre and date
If surgery is planned, you are told the centre, the admission date, what to bring and the estimate or scheme approval. Ask about stay and parking for the family at this stage.
Getting there
How do families usually reach a CION branch?
The right choice depends on how well the patient can walk, sit and wait, not only on the fare.
Metro and city buses
Several branches sit on busy main roads served by metro and city buses. Ask the helpline for the nearest stop and the exact address before you set out.
Crowds and stairs can be hard after tests. Keep this for well days.Auto or cab
The easiest choice for a patient who tires quickly. Share the branch location pin with the driver rather than a landmark, since several areas have look-alike names.
Bus or train from a district
Families from districts often reach one of the main city bus stations or railway stations and take a cab from there.

- Keep water and a light snack for the patient
Your own vehicle
Useful when the patient cannot sit up for long. Ask about parking and a drop-off point by the entrance when you book.

Commonly believed
What do families often assume about CION branches?
"Each branch has its own phone number."
It does not. One helpline serves every branch. Calling it is the quickest way to find a slot, an address and the right surgeon, whichever part of the city you are in.
"If we start at a small branch, we will be sent back to begin again."
Your reports and notes move with you inside CION. If the operation is planned elsewhere, the operating team already has the history, and the first consultation still counts.
"The scheme card only works at one branch."
CION centres are Aarogyasri empanelled and accept CGHS, ECHS and EHS. Cover still depends on the operation and your eligibility, so bring the card to the first visit and let the scheme desk check it.
"We have to travel to Hyderabad for every follow-up."
Not always. Some reviews can happen at the Siddipet or Sangareddy branch, or at the city branch nearest your route. Ask the team to plan follow-up around where you live before discharge.
Planning the visit
What should the family sort out before the first visit?
Decide who will come with the patient, and try to keep the same person for the consultation and the operation. The team explains a lot at the first visit. It helps when the person who hears it is the person who will be in the hospital later.
Tell us about access needs when you book
If the patient uses a wheelchair, cannot climb stairs, needs a stretcher or has trouble hearing, say so when you call. The branch can plan the arrival and the waiting place. Tell us too if you need the consultation explained in Telugu, Hindi or Urdu.
Plan the day, not just the appointment
A first visit can take most of a morning once tests are added. The patient may be asked not to eat before some scans. Pack their regular medicines, a list of those medicines, and something to eat once the tests are done. Do not stop any medicine on your own unless the team tells you to.

What should you bring to the first visit?
- Biopsy report, and the slides and blocks if you have them
- Scan reports with the films or CD
- Recent blood test reports and any discharge summary
- A written list of every medicine the patient takes
- Aadhaar and the Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or insurance card
- The referral letter, if a doctor gave you one
Questions we are asked
Common questions about CION locations and access
Does every CION branch do cancer operations?
No. Consultations, tests and follow-up happen at many branches. The operation itself is done at a centre with the theatre, anaesthesia team and recovery beds that operation needs. The helpline confirms which centre before any date is given, so you are not sent to the wrong place.
Can I book directly, without a referral?
Yes. Call the helpline with what has been found so far and we book a surgical oncologist at a branch you can reach. If a doctor has given you a referral letter, bring it, because it helps the team understand what has already been done.
Which branch should someone from a district come to?
Usually the one on your route into the city, or the Siddipet or Sangareddy branch if you live near those towns. Tell the helpline your district and how the patient is travelling, and we suggest a branch that keeps the journey short for the patient.
Can we come on a Sunday?
Branches see patients from Monday to Saturday. The helpline answers at any hour, including Sundays and nights, so you can call to book or to ask a question. If the patient is seriously unwell on a Sunday, go to the nearest emergency department.
Can one family member speak for the patient on the phone?
Yes, for booking and general questions. Clinical details are shared with the family members the patient agrees to. At the first visit, tell the team who should be kept informed, so updates reach the right person without delay.
Will we see the same surgeon at the operation centre?
Ask this at the first consultation. Often the surgeon you meet is the one who operates, but that depends on the operation and the centre. You should always know the name of the surgeon who will do the operation before the admission date.
Is there help for a patient who cannot walk?
Tell the helpline when you book. The branch can plan a wheelchair and a drop-off near the entrance. If the patient needs a stretcher or an ambulance, say so, and ask about transport options for the day of admission too.
Where does the family stay if the operation is far from home?
Many families stay with relatives, in lodges near the centre or in low-cost rest houses. Ask the team about the likely length of stay once a date is set, so you can book sensibly. Our pages on accommodation and low-cost stay explain the options.
