How much does an STK11 test cost in Hyderabad?
An STK11 test in Hyderabad usually costs a few thousand rupees for a relative checked for a known family fault, and more for the first person tested. The first test is either STK11 on its own, with a check for missing pieces of the gene, or a wider panel that includes it. Which one your doctor asks for decides most of the price.
Why the first test costs the most
The first person in a family has the whole gene read, letter by letter. The lab also looks for missing or doubled sections, because a real share of STK11 faults are deletions that a basic read can miss. Once a fault is found, every relative after that is checked for that one change only. That targeted test is quicker and far cheaper.
The cost that families forget
The test is paid once. A positive result leads to regular endoscopies and small bowel checks from childhood, and later breast, pancreas and gynaecological checks, for life. Those repeat costs usually add up to more than the test. Plan for both before the sample is taken, so the result does not arrive with a bill nobody expected.

What makes one STK11 test cost more than another?
Two quotes can look very different and still be fair. These are the things that move the figure.
How many genes are read
A single gene costs less than a panel. A panel makes sense when the polyps have not been clearly typed, because several genes can cause polyps in young people.
Whether deletions are checked
Some STK11 faults are a missing chunk of the gene rather than a spelling error. A cheap quote that leaves this out can return a false all-clear.

Whether counselling is included
Some prices include a session with a genetic counsellor before and after the test. Others are the laboratory fee alone. Counselling is how the result gets explained properly, so it is not an optional extra.

See a counsellor first
A counsellor checks whether the polyps and freckles really fit Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, and which test suits. That step alone prevents many unnecessary tests.
Test the affected person first
Where possible, the relative with polyps or the typical freckles is tested first. Their result tells everyone else what to look for.
Use the family result for everyone else
Relatives then take the cheaper targeted test. Bring a copy of the first report so the lab knows exactly which change to check.
Ask about family pricing
Some laboratories test relatives at a reduced price for a limited time after the first positive result. It is always worth asking.
Plan for the checks that follow
Ask for a rough yearly figure for endoscopies and small bowel checks. Families coming from the districts often save by booking several checks on one trip.

It cannot give you a quote. Prices change, laboratories change their panels, and the right test depends on who is being tested. The ranges above are here so that a figure you are given does not come as a shock. They are not for choosing a lab on price alone, because accreditation, deletion testing and counselling matter as much as the number.
It cannot tell you whether the test is worth it for you
That depends on the polyps, the freckles and the family history, which a counsellor has to see. Peutz-Jeghers syndrome can also be diagnosed from the polyps and freckles alone, so a negative test does not always close the question. What a positive or uncertain result means for you is a question for the counsellor who orders the test.
Who this does not apply to
Most people with a single bowel polyp, or with ordinary freckles on the face, do not need STK11 testing. Both are common. Testing becomes worth the money when the typical polyps are found, when dark spots appear on the lips and inside the mouth in childhood, or when a close relative already has the diagnosis.

"The most expensive test must be the best one."
A bigger panel is not always better. For a clear Peutz-Jeghers picture, a single-gene test with a deletion check can answer the question for less.
"Every relative needs the full test the first person had."
Relatives only need the targeted test for the fault already found. That is one of the biggest savings a family can make.
"We can wait until the children are grown up."
With STK11, waiting can cost more. Polyps can block the bowel in childhood, and an emergency operation costs far more than a planned test and endoscopy.
"Health insurance will pay for the test."
Many policies do not pay for genetic tests in a well person. Ask your insurer in writing before you test, not after.

Common questions about the cost of STK11 testing
Does Aarogyasri or Ayushman Bharat cover STK11 testing?
Stand-alone genetic tests are usually not covered. Treatment for a cancer that is found, and some procedures, may be. Ask the scheme desk at the hospital to check your own entitlement before you plan around it.
Is counselling charged separately?
It depends on where you are tested. Some laboratories include a session before and after the test, while hospitals often charge a consultation fee. Ask for both figures in writing so you can compare fairly.
How long do STK11 results take?
Usually a few weeks for a first test, and often less for a relative's targeted test. If a child has stomach pain or a polyp causing trouble, tell the team, because treatment does not wait for the result.
Are children tested at the same price?
Yes, a child is tested the same way as an adult. STK11 is one of the genes where testing children helps, because the first endoscopy is done in childhood. Your counsellor will explain when to test.
Is a blood sample enough?
A blood sample is standard, and some laboratories accept saliva. Either can be collected in Hyderabad and sent on, so you do not need to travel to the laboratory itself.
What does it cost if the result is uncertain?
An uncertain result costs nothing extra in itself. It should not trigger extra procedures on its own. Ask how you will be told if the laboratory later reclassifies it, and whether any repeat review is charged.
Which follow-up checks cost the most?
Small bowel checks, such as a capsule camera or an MRI of the bowel, tend to cost more than a standard endoscopy. How often they are needed depends on what earlier checks found. Ask for a yearly estimate before you start.
