The short answer
How much does PGT-M cost in India?
One complete attempt at PGT-M usually costs several lakh rupees, once the IVF, the embryo testing and the transfer are added together. Many couples need more than one attempt, so the real total is often higher. The embryo test itself is only one part of the bill.
Why IVF is the biggest cost
PGT-M can only be done on embryos made in a laboratory. That means a full IVF cycle, with hormone injections, egg collection and laboratory work, even for a couple who could conceive without help. For most families the IVF part costs more than the genetic part.
Why the price varies so much
Prices depend on the clinic, the laboratory that designs your test, how many embryos are tested and whether a chromosome check is added. The woman's age matters too. Younger women tend to produce more eggs, which can mean more embryos to test in one attempt but fewer attempts overall.
Who usually pays
In most families it is the couple, and often a parent helps. Fertility treatment and embryo testing sit outside most insurance and government schemes, so the cost usually falls on the family directly.

What are you actually paying for?
Five kinds of cost arrive at different stages. Some are paid once. Others repeat with every attempt.
Counselling and the family test design
Genetic counselling comes first. Then the laboratory builds a test for your exact family fault, usually from blood samples of both partners. This design fee is normally paid once, even if you need several attempts.
The IVF cycle and its medicines
Hormone injections, scans, egg collection under sedation, and the laboratory work of fertilising the eggs and growing the embryos. The medicines alone can be a large share, and the dose varies from woman to woman.
Biopsy and testing of each embryo
Often charged per embryo. More embryos means a larger bill, though it also means more chances of finding one without the fault.

Freezing, storage and transfer
Embryos are frozen while the results come back, then thawed for a later transfer. Storage is usually charged every year you keep embryos. Each transfer is a separate charge.
A confirming test in pregnancy
Many clinics offer a prenatal test to confirm the result once a pregnancy begins. It costs far less than IVF, but it is worth adding to your budget from the start.

What should a written estimate include?
- The test design fee, and whether it is paid once or with every attempt
- The expected cost of medicines, with a range for higher doses
- The per-embryo testing charge and any cap on the number tested
- Freezing, yearly storage and each frozen transfer, listed separately
- What happens to the money if no embryo can be transferred
- The name of the laboratory that will do the genetic testing

What this page cannot tell you
It cannot give you a quote. Only the fertility clinic and the laboratory can price your treatment, and only after they have seen your reports and assessed the woman's fertility. The ranges above are a guide for budgeting, not a figure to hold anyone to.
It cannot tell you how many attempts you will need
That depends mostly on the woman's age and how many eggs she produces. A fertility specialist can give you an honest estimate after the first scans and blood tests. Plan the budget for more than one attempt, and decide in advance how far you are willing to go.
Who this does not apply to
Most carriers of a cancer gene fault never use PGT-M. Many conceive naturally, and some choose a test during pregnancy, which costs far less. If your report shows only a variant of uncertain significance, PGT-M is not an option at all, and paying for it would not help. A genetic counsellor can tell you which route suits your family before you spend anything.

Four things families assume about the cost
"The price on the brochure is the whole cost."
Brochure prices often cover one part only, such as the IVF cycle or the embryo test. Medicines, storage and transfers are frequently charged separately. Ask for the full list in writing.
"Insurance will cover it because it is about cancer."
Most health policies in India exclude fertility treatment, and embryo testing is rarely covered. The cancer gene fault does not change that. Check the policy wording before you begin.
"A cheaper clinic means a worse result."
Not necessarily. What matters is that the clinic is registered and that the genetic laboratory is experienced with your type of fault. Ask both questions before you compare prices.
"We will only pay for IVF once."
Some couples do. Many do not, because some attempts produce no embryo free of the fault, and some transfers do not lead to a pregnancy. Budgeting for a second attempt avoids a hard decision later.

Common questions about the cost of PGT-M
Does Aarogyasri or Ayushman Bharat cover PGT-M?
Not usually. Both schemes are built around treating illness, and fertility treatment and embryo testing generally fall outside them. Cancer treatment for the carrier, if ever needed, is a different matter and may be covered.
Why is the test design charged separately?
Every family fault is different, so the laboratory builds and checks a test just for yours before any embryo is tested. It is usually a one-time charge. If you change laboratories later, you may have to pay for it again.
Is it cheaper to test during pregnancy instead?
Yes, far cheaper, because no IVF is involved. But it means deciding about a pregnancy that already exists. Some couples find that choice harder than the cost of IVF. A counsellor can help you weigh the two honestly.
Do we pay for embryos that carry the fault?
Usually, yes. Every embryo that is biopsied and tested is normally charged, whatever the result. That is why the number of embryos tested affects the bill so much. Ask whether the clinic caps the number or offers a package.
What if no embryo can be transferred?
You will usually have paid for the IVF cycle and the testing already. Some clinics adjust the next attempt's price. Ask about this in writing before you start, so the answer does not depend on goodwill later.
Is PGT-M cheaper in Hyderabad than in other cities?
Prices in Hyderabad are broadly in line with other large Indian cities. Travelling elsewhere rarely saves much once travel and repeated visits are counted. Choosing a clinic you can reach easily matters, because IVF needs several visits in a short time.
Does adding a chromosome check raise the cost?
Yes. A chromosome check on the same cells is a separate test with its own charge. It is sometimes suggested for older women. Ask what it would change for you before agreeing, because it is not needed to find the family fault.

The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.
