About nasal & sinus cancer
Cancers of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are uncommon head-and-neck tumours. Symptoms mimic chronic sinusitis, which can delay diagnosis. Treatment usually combines surgery — increasingly endoscopic — with radiation, and chemotherapy in selected cases.
Signs to watch for
One-sided nasal blockage that does not clear
Recurrent nosebleeds from one side
Reduced sense of smell
Facial pain, swelling, or numbness
A mass in the nose or palate
Watering or bulging of one eye in advanced cases
Most of these have other causes too. If one lasts, see a doctor.
Who is at higher risk
Occupational exposure to wood dust, leather dust, nickel
Smoking
HPV infection (some subtypes)
Prior radiation to the region
Having a risk factor doesn’t mean you will get cancer.
How it’s diagnosed
Nasal endoscopy with biopsy confirms the diagnosis; CT and MRI together map bone and soft-tissue extent, with PET-CT for nodal and distant staging.
Many of these tests can be arranged by your CION team at CION L.B. Nagar.

Sinusitis usually affects both sides and improves with treatment. One-sided blockage, bleeding, or numbness that persists beyond a few weeks should be evaluated with endoscopy.
2Will surgery change my appearance?
Many tumours are now removed endoscopically through the nostrils without external cuts. When open surgery is needed, reconstruction is planned alongside.
3Is radiation near the eyes safe?
Modern image-guided techniques shape the dose to protect the eyes, optic nerves, and brain as far as the tumour position allows. Risks are discussed before treatment.
