About pediatric cancer
Childhood cancers — most commonly leukemias, brain tumours, lymphomas, and embryonal tumours like neuroblastoma and Wilms tumour — behave differently from adult cancers and generally respond very well to protocol-based treatment delivered by a paediatric oncology team.
Signs to watch for
Prolonged unexplained fever or infections
Pallor, easy bruising, or bleeding
Persistent headache with vomiting
A lump in the abdomen or elsewhere
White glow in the pupil or new squint
Bone pain or limp
Most of these have other causes too. If one lasts, see a doctor.
Who is at higher risk
Most childhood cancers have no known cause
Certain genetic syndromes (Down syndrome, Li-Fraumeni, retinoblastoma gene)
Prior chemotherapy or radiation
They are NOT caused by anything parents did or did not do
Having a risk factor doesn’t mean you will get cancer.
How it’s diagnosed
Evaluation is symptom-directed: blood counts and marrow studies, imaging (ultrasound, MRI, PET-CT), and biopsy where needed — performed with child-friendly anaesthesia care.
Many of these tests can be arranged by your CION team in Sangareddy.

A large proportion of childhood cancers are cured with modern protocol-based therapy. Early specialist referral gives the best chance.
2Did we cause this as parents?
No. Childhood cancers are not caused by diet, vaccines, or parenting choices. Guilt is natural but misplaced — focus on treatment, and let the team support your family.
3How do children cope with chemotherapy?
Children often tolerate chemotherapy better than adults. Anti-nausea care, nutrition support, and schooling/play integration keep life as normal as possible during treatment.
