CT enterography, capsule endoscopy, or balloon-assisted enteroscopy with biopsy locate and confirm the tumour. PET-CT and specific markers help with subtype and staging.

A gastrointestinal stromal tumour arises from the support cells of the bowel wall. Many respond well to targeted tablets in addition to surgery.
They are a spectrum — many grow slowly. Grading on biopsy and specialised scans guide how actively they need to be treated.
