Aarogyasri eligibility criteria in Telangana centre on your ration card: a white ration card usually meets the income test on its own, with no extra proof needed. Without one, an income certificate showing your family earns below the scheme's declared limit works instead. North AP families follow AP's own Aarogyasri scheme, not Telangana's.
What income and ration card do you need for Aarogyasri in Telangana?
In Telangana, a white ration card is the simplest proof of Aarogyasri eligibility. If your family holds one, you usually do not need separate income documents — the card itself counts as proof that your household falls under the income group the scheme covers.
Without a white card, you can still apply using an income certificate from your local Mee Seva or Tahsildar office. It should show your family income below the limit the scheme has set — often cited as around Rs. 5 lakh a year, though this is revised from time to time. Confirm the current figure with the Aarogyasri Mitra desk at your hospital before you rely on it.
What should you check before you apply?
- Ration card statusCheck whether your family holds a white ration card — it is the quickest route to Aarogyasri approval.
- Aadhaar matchMake sure the names and details on your ration card match your Aadhaar, since mismatches cause delays.
- Income certificateIf there is no ration card, get a recent income certificate from Mee Seva or the Tahsildar's office.
- Correct stateConfirm which state's Aarogyasri scheme covers you — this depends on your home address, not your treatment city.
What do these Aarogyasri terms actually mean?
- White ration card
- A card given to low-income families; accepted as proof of Aarogyasri eligibility in Telangana.
- Aarogyasri health card
- The card you receive after enrolment and show at the hospital for cashless treatment.
- Dr. YSR Aarogyasri
- Andhra Pradesh's own version of the scheme, separate from Telangana's Aarogyasri.
- Aarogyasri Mitra
- The help desk at a network hospital that checks your papers and guides enrolment.
- Network hospital
- A hospital approved to treat Aarogyasri patients and bill the scheme directly.
- Referral
- Written permission needed to move from one government or empanelled hospital to another for treatment.
Does a North AP family qualify under Telangana's Aarogyasri scheme?
No. Aarogyasri eligibility is decided by your home state, not by where you choose to get treated. A family living in North Andhra Pradesh — Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and nearby districts — falls under AP's Dr. YSR Aarogyasri scheme, not Telangana's Aarogyasri.
This does not stop you from being treated in Hyderabad. Network hospitals there accept AP patients for many conditions, including cancer. You will usually need a referral or proof that your treatment is not available near home, along with your AP Aarogyasri health card. Ask your district Aarogyasri office, or the hospital's Aarogyasri Mitra desk in Hyderabad, which route applies before you travel.
Can a family without a ration card still qualify for Aarogyasri?
1We don't have a ration card but our income is genuinely low. Can we still apply?
Yes. You can apply with an income certificate from your local Mee Seva or Tahsildar office instead of a ration card. Bring supporting income proof too, such as a salary slip or self-employment declaration, when you visit the Aarogyasri desk.
2Is a ration card a hard requirement with no other option?
No. The card is the easiest proof, not the only one. Families without one are not excluded — they are asked for income documents instead. Most delays happen from incomplete paperwork, not from a missing card.
3What if our ration card is not a white card?
A different-coloured card does not automatically mean rejection. You may still qualify through the income-certificate route. Ask the Aarogyasri Mitra desk to check your card and income against the current criteria.
Did you know?
A family can qualify for Aarogyasri using only an income certificate, with no ration card of any colour — this route exists but is rarely mentioned, so many eligible families never apply.

What is the ration card requirement for Aarogyasri skin cancer coverage in Telangana?
A white ration card is the main proof of eligibility for Aarogyasri in Telangana, including for skin cancer treatment. If your family holds one, you generally do not need to submit separate income documents alongside it. Families without a white card are not automatically excluded — they can apply using an income certificate from Mee Seva or the Tahsildar's office instead, showing their income falls within the scheme's current limit. Confirm your card's status and the current limit with the Aarogyasri Mitra desk before you begin treatment planning.
Do North Andhra Pradesh families need to apply under a different Aarogyasri scheme?
Yes. If you live in North AP — districts like Srikakulam, Vizianagaram or Visakhapatnam — you fall under Andhra Pradesh's Dr. YSR Aarogyasri scheme, not Telangana's Aarogyasri, even if you plan to get treated in Hyderabad. Eligibility is decided by your home address, not your treatment city. You will need to enrol and get your health card through AP's scheme, then use a referral or the correct inter-state process to access a network hospital in Hyderabad for skin cancer treatment.
What income proof do I need if I don't have a ration card?
You can apply with an income certificate issued by your local Mee Seva centre or Tahsildar's office, showing your family income falls under the scheme's declared limit. Carry supporting documents too — a salary slip, a self-employment declaration, or similar proof — since the certificate alone is sometimes not enough. Take these to the Aarogyasri Mitra desk at your chosen hospital, which will guide you on any additional paperwork specific to your situation.
Can an Andhra Pradesh family get Aarogyasri-covered skin cancer treatment in Hyderabad?
Yes, this is possible, but it is not automatic. You first need to be enrolled under AP's Dr. YSR Aarogyasri scheme with a valid health card. Then, depending on your case, you may need a referral showing the required treatment is not available at an empanelled hospital near your home. The Aarogyasri Mitra desk at the Hyderabad hospital can confirm exactly which papers apply to your situation before you travel for treatment.
Is there still an income limit for families who already have a white ration card?
Generally, no separate income proof is asked for once you hold a valid white ration card — the card itself is treated as evidence that your household falls within the scheme's low-income group. This can change if the scheme's rules are revised, so it is worth confirming your card is current and correctly linked to your Aadhaar details before you rely on it for skin cancer treatment coverage.
What should I do if my Aarogyasri application for skin cancer treatment is rejected?
Ask the Aarogyasri Mitra desk exactly why the application was rejected — it is often a paperwork mismatch, such as an Aadhaar detail not matching your ration card, rather than actual ineligibility. Correct the specific document and reapply. If you believe you genuinely qualify and the rejection seems wrong, you can also raise the issue at your district Aarogyasri office for a review before assuming coverage is not available to you.
