HPV Vaccine Cost in Hyderabad — Per Dose and Full Course

In Hyderabad's private clinics, an HPV vaccine dose usually costs between ₹2,000 and ₹4,500 for the Indian-made and imported two-type and four-type vaccines, and between ₹7,000 and ₹11,000 for the nine-type vaccine. Because girls vaccinated before their fifteenth birthday need only two doses, a complete course for a child commonly lands between ₹4,000 and ₹9,000. That is the whole outlay for the intervention that prevents the great majority of cervical cancers — a fraction of what treating the disease costs. This page gives the numbers, the dose schedule for each age, and an honest answer on insurance.

  • Age decides the number of doses — two doses under 15, three doses from 15 onwards, so the age you start changes the total
  • No HPV test is needed before vaccination — so nothing should be added to your bill for one
  • Most health policies exclude routine vaccination — unless you have an OPD or wellness benefit that covers it
  • Vaccination does not replace screening — the vaccine covers most high-risk types, not every one of them

What a Dose Costs in Hyderabad

HPV vaccines are grouped by how many types of the virus they protect against, and that is what separates them on price. All of them cover HPV 16 and HPV 18 — the two types responsible for most cervical cancers worldwide. The four-type vaccines add the two types that cause most genital warts, and the nine-type vaccine adds five further high-risk types. Which types each one covers, and who benefits most from the wider cover, is explained on our guide to the different types of HPV vaccine.

Vaccine Indicative price per dose What it covers
Two-type (bivalent) ₹2,000 – ₹3,500 HPV 16 and 18 — the types behind most cervical cancers
Four-type (quadrivalent), made in India ₹2,000 – ₹4,000 HPV 16 and 18, plus the two types that cause most genital warts
Four-type (quadrivalent), imported ₹3,000 – ₹4,500 The same four types; priced differently by supply
Nine-type (nonavalent) ₹7,000 – ₹11,000 Adds five further high-risk types to the four above
Consultation and administration Free at CION · ₹300 – ₹800 elsewhere Some clinics bill the injection charge separately from the vial
HPV test before vaccination Not required No test is needed first — question any clinic that insists

Ranges reflect what is commonly charged across Hyderabad private clinics and hospitals. They are a planning guide, not a quotation, and vial prices move with supply.

Did You Know? In 2022 the WHO updated its position on HPV vaccines after reviewing the evidence, concluding that a single-dose schedule delivers comparable protection to two doses in girls and women aged 9 to 20 — and several countries have since moved to one dose in their national programmes. Indian private practice still commonly follows the two-dose and three-dose schedules, so it is worth asking your doctor what schedule they recommend and why. Fewer doses would, of course, change what the course costs. Source: WHO position paper on human papillomavirus vaccines, 2022.

How Many Doses You Need — and What the Course Totals

The single biggest lever on the total is the age at which you start. Vaccinating a child before her fifteenth birthday costs less, because two doses are enough at that age, and it also works better, because protection is strongest before any exposure to the virus.

Age at first dose Schedule Indicative total — two/four-type Indicative total — nine-type
9 to 14 years 2 doses, six to twelve months apart ₹4,000 – ₹9,000 ₹14,000 – ₹22,000
15 years and above 3 doses over about six months ₹6,000 – ₹13,500 ₹21,000 – ₹33,000
Reduced immunity, any age 3 doses, regardless of age at start ₹6,000 – ₹13,500 ₹21,000 – ₹33,000

Boys are vaccinated too in a growing number of programmes, because HPV also causes anal, penile and throat cancers, and because vaccinating boys protects their future partners. The price per dose is the same. How the vaccine works, and what the evidence behind it shows, is set out in full on our page about the HPV vaccine and how it protects against cervical cancer.

Why Two Quotes Can Differ by Thousands

The vial is only part of what you are charged. These are the variables behind the spread.

Which vaccine is being offered

The nine-type vaccine costs roughly two to three times as much per dose as the others. That difference is real, and so is the wider cover it provides — but every licensed HPV vaccine protects against HPV 16 and 18, which cause the majority of cervical cancers. A more affordable vaccine given on time is worth far more than an expensive one postponed indefinitely.

Whether it is a clinic, a hospital or a camp

Standalone vaccination clinics, hospital OPDs and school or workplace camps price the same vial differently, largely because of overheads and volume. Camps run through a school or an employer are usually the cheapest route and the easiest to complete, since the second dose is scheduled for you.

Whether the consultation and injection are billed separately

Some clinics quote the vial price and then add a consultation and an administration charge. Ask for the all-inclusive figure per dose before you book. At CION the consultation is free and there is no separate administration charge.

Whether tests are being added that you do not need

Vaccination does not require an HPV test, a Pap smear or a blood test beforehand. Screening is a separate and valuable thing in its own right for women of screening age, but it is not a prerequisite for a vaccine, and being told otherwise is a reason to ask why.

How many doses your age requires

Starting at 13 rather than 16 removes an entire dose from the course. If you have a daughter approaching fifteen, the cost argument and the medical argument point in the same direction: sooner is both cheaper and more effective.

Will Insurance or a Government Programme Pay for It?

Here the honest answer is less generous than most people hope, so it is worth knowing before you plan around it.

Standard health insurance usually will not

Indian indemnity health policies pay for hospitalisation. Routine preventive vaccination is not hospitalisation, and most policy wordings exclude it explicitly. That is not specific to the HPV vaccine — it is how the product is designed.

OPD, wellness and corporate benefits sometimes will

If your policy carries an outpatient or wellness benefit, or if your employer runs a group health scheme with a preventive-care allowance, vaccination often qualifies. Employers increasingly include HPV vaccination in workplace health drives, and a camp arranged through an employer or a school is frequently the least expensive way to complete a course. It costs one phone call to your HR team to find out.

Government programmes

HPV vaccination has been the subject of state-level school programmes in parts of India and of sustained national policy discussion about wider public provision. Whether free doses are being offered in Telangana in a given year is best confirmed with your nearest government health facility or your child's school, since these campaigns run in defined windows. If a free programme is available to your daughter, take it — the vaccine given in a school programme is the same vaccine.

A note on where the money goes. A full vaccination course for a child is a few thousand rupees. Treating cervical cancer — surgery, radiation, brachytherapy and often chemotherapy, spread over months — runs into lakhs, as our cervical cancer treatment cost guide sets out. The vaccine is the least expensive intervention anywhere in this disease, and the only one that stops it starting.

Is It Worth Paying For at My Age?

This is the question that decides whether a cost page is any use, so here is a straight answer for each situation.

  • A daughter aged 9 to 14. This is where every rupee works hardest. Two doses, the lowest total cost, and the strongest protection because it is given before any exposure. If you do nothing else on this page, do this one.
  • A teenager or young woman aged 15 to 26. Three doses, so a higher total, but the benefit remains substantial for anyone not yet exposed to the covered types. Worth doing without agonising over it.
  • A woman aged 27 to 45. The benefit is smaller, because many women have already encountered some HPV types by this age, and it varies with individual circumstances. It is a reasonable discussion to have with a doctor rather than an automatic yes or an automatic no — and it should never displace screening, which matters far more in this age group.
  • A boy or young man. The same schedule and the same price. HPV causes anal, penile and throat cancers in men, and vaccinating boys reduces transmission.
  • Someone already treated for cervical precancer. Vaccination is sometimes advised after treatment for cervical precancer, and this is a specific conversation to have with the doctor who treated you.

One thing the vaccine cannot do is clear an infection you already have, or treat a cell change that has already begun. It is prevention, not treatment. Where disease is already present, the route is diagnosis and care — see cervical cancer treatment in Hyderabad — and the wider picture of the disease is covered on our cervical cancer overview.

Did You Know? Cervical cancer is the only major cancer with a formal global elimination strategy. The WHO 90–70–90 targets ask every country to reach 90% of girls fully vaccinated against HPV by age 15, 70% of women screened with a high-performance test twice by 45, and 90% of women with disease treated. Vaccination is listed first because it is the only step that prevents the disease rather than catching it. Source: WHO Global Strategy to Accelerate the Elimination of Cervical Cancer as a Public Health Problem.

What the Vaccine Does Not Buy You

Being clear about the limits is part of an honest cost page, because a false sense of completeness costs more later than any vial does.

It does not cover every high-risk type. Even the nine-type vaccine leaves some high-risk types uncovered. The proportion of cervical cancer prevented is large, but it is not all of it — which is why NCCN and WHO guidance both keep screening in place for vaccinated women.

It does not treat an existing infection. Vaccination prevents new infection with the types it covers. If a high-risk type has already established itself, the vaccine will not clear it, and the answer is screening and, if needed, treatment of precancer — which is usually a single outpatient procedure.

It does not remove the need for a Pap or HPV test. A vaccinated woman still needs cervical screening from the recommended age and at the recommended interval. Budget for that as a continuing, small, recurring cost rather than a one-off — it is the second half of the same protection.

It is not a reason to skip symptoms. Bleeding after sex, bleeding after the menopause or persistent unusual discharge should be examined in a vaccinated woman exactly as in an unvaccinated one.

Common questions

HPV Vaccine Cost — Frequently Asked Questions

What does a full HPV vaccine course cost in Hyderabad?

It depends on the vaccine and on the age at which the first dose is given. For the two-type and four-type vaccines, a dose commonly costs between two thousand and four thousand five hundred rupees in Hyderabad private clinics, so a two-dose course for a girl aged 9 to 14 usually totals roughly four to nine thousand rupees, and a three-dose course from age 15 onwards roughly six to thirteen thousand. The nine-type vaccine is substantially more, at around seven to eleven thousand rupees per dose. Ask for the all-inclusive figure per dose, since some clinics add a consultation and administration charge on top of the vial price.

Does health insurance pay for the HPV vaccine?

Usually not. Indian indemnity health policies are built to pay for hospitalisation, and most wordings explicitly exclude routine preventive vaccination — this is a feature of the product rather than anything specific to this vaccine. There are two useful exceptions. If your policy includes an outpatient or wellness benefit, vaccination often qualifies against it. And many employers now include HPV vaccination in group health or workplace wellness programmes, which is frequently the cheapest and most convenient route because the follow-up dose is scheduled for you. Both are worth one phone call to your insurer or HR team before you pay out of pocket.

Is the nine-type vaccine worth two to three times the price?

It offers wider cover, and for some people that is worth paying for. But the decision should be made with the right comparison in mind: every licensed HPV vaccine protects against HPV 16 and HPV 18, which are responsible for the majority of cervical cancers worldwide. The additional types in the nine-type vaccine add incremental protection, not a different order of protection. If the higher price would mean delaying vaccination or skipping it altogether, an affordable vaccine given on time is the better decision by a wide margin. Our guide to the types of HPV vaccine sets out exactly what each one covers.

Do I need an HPV test or a Pap smear before being vaccinated?

No. Vaccination does not require an HPV test, a Pap smear or a blood test beforehand, and nothing of the sort should appear on your bill as a prerequisite. Screening is genuinely valuable in its own right for women of screening age, and if you are due a test it is sensible to have it — but it is a separate decision with a separate purpose, not a gateway to the vaccine. If a clinic tells you a test is compulsory before it will vaccinate, ask why, and feel free to seek the vaccine elsewhere.

I am 32 and married. Is paying for the vaccine still worthwhile?

The benefit is real but smaller than it would have been at 12, because by this age many women have already encountered at least some HPV types, and vaccination cannot clear an infection that is already established. Whether it is worth the cost for you depends on your individual circumstances, and it is a reasonable conversation to have with a doctor rather than a decision to make from a website. What is not optional at your age is screening. A Pap or HPV test at the recommended interval does more to protect you now than the vaccine can, and it is the step to prioritise if you are choosing where to spend.

Medical disclaimer: This page is general health and cost information, reviewed by a CION oncologist. The prices shown are indicative of Hyderabad private clinics for planning purposes and are not a quotation or a tariff; vaccine prices change with supply and vary between providers. Vaccination decisions, schedules and suitability should be confirmed with a doctor who knows your history. Vaccination reduces risk substantially but does not remove the need for cervical screening.
