About brain tumour
Brain tumours may be benign or malignant, and may start in the brain or spread there from elsewhere. Symptoms depend on size and location. Care is multidisciplinary: neurosurgery, radiation oncology, and medical oncology together plan surgery, precision radiation, and chemotherapy as needed.
Signs to watch for
New, persistent, or worsening headaches
Seizures starting in adulthood
Weakness or numbness of one side
Vision or speech disturbance
Personality or memory changes
Morning vomiting
Most of these have other causes too. If one lasts, see a doctor.
Who is at higher risk
Prior radiation exposure to the head
Certain inherited syndromes
Family history (uncommon)
Most brain tumours have no identifiable cause
Having a risk factor doesn’t mean you will get cancer.
How it’s diagnosed
Contrast MRI of the brain is the principal test. Diagnosis is confirmed by biopsy or at surgery, with molecular testing of the tissue guiding therapy.
Many of these tests can be arranged by your CION team at CION Ameerpet.

Medical oncologists 6
Treat cancer with medicines, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy.
No. Many are benign and slow-growing. Even benign tumours may need treatment if they press on important structures, but the outlook differs greatly from malignant tumours.
2Do frequent headaches mean a brain tumour?
Almost always not — most headaches are migraine or tension-type. Red flags are new headaches after 50, progressive worsening, morning vomiting, seizures, or neurological deficits.
3Is surgery always required?
Not always. Some tumours are treated with radiation or observed with periodic MRI. The plan depends on type, location, and symptoms.
