About endometrial cancer

Who is at higher risk
- Obesity
- Diabetes and hypertension
- Oestrogen exposure without progesterone
- Polycystic ovary syndrome
- Late menopause or never being pregnant
- Lynch syndrome
Having a risk factor doesn’t mean you will get cancer.
How it’s diagnosed
Transvaginal ultrasound assesses the endometrium, and an endometrial biopsy or hysteroscopy-guided sampling confirms the diagnosis. MRI and PET-CT stage the disease where needed.

It is not an emergency, but it is never normal — see a gynaecologist promptly. Most causes are benign, and when cancer is found this early it is usually curable.
2Can fertility be preserved?
In carefully selected very-early cases in young women, hormonal treatment with close monitoring can be considered. This needs detailed discussion with a gynaec-oncologist.
