Breast cancer begins in the cells of the breast, most often in the milk ducts or lobules. Detected early, it is among the most treatable cancers. Treatment is planned by a multidisciplinary tumour board and may combine surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal therapy, and targeted therapy depending on the type, stage, and receptor status of the tumour.

Evaluation typically includes clinical breast examination, mammography or ultrasound, and a needle biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Receptor testing (ER/PR/HER2) and staging scans such as PET-CT guide the treatment plan.

No. Most breast lumps are benign, but every new lump should be checked by a doctor. A clinical exam with imaging, and a biopsy where needed, gives a clear answer.
In many early-stage cases breast-conserving surgery followed by radiation is possible. Your surgical oncologist will advise based on tumour size, location, and breast size.
Treatment is usually started within a few weeks of diagnosis, after staging and tumour board review. Starting with a complete plan matters more than starting in haste.
