It cannot tell you whether your family needs testing. A counsellor who has drawn your family tree answers that, and often the honest answer is no. It also cannot say which scans a carrier could have in Khammam or Suryapet, because that depends on the plan and on local services at the time.

Four things families tell us, and what is actually true
"A test done in Vijayawada will not count in Hyderabad."
A properly reported test from a recognised laboratory can usually be reviewed wherever you go. Bring the full report. A test is rarely repeated just because the city changed.
"My father-in-law's cancer is part of our family history."
Only blood relatives count. Your father-in-law's cancer matters for his own children, not for you. Include both of your parents' sides, and leave out relatives by marriage.
"The result is private, so relatives need not be told."
The result is yours, and so is the choice to share it. But blood relatives may carry the same fault, and knowing can change their screening. A counsellor helps you plan who to tell and how, without pressure.
"Once we have a result, it is final for ever."
A clear result on a proper test is stable. A variant of uncertain significance, meaning the laboratory does not yet know whether it matters, can be reclassified as evidence grows. Keep your phone number up to date with the centre.

Should we go to Vijayawada instead?
Either city can work. Choose the place with a qualified genetic counsellor, a laboratory that gives you the full report, and follow-up you can actually reach. Splitting one family's testing between many centres makes records harder to keep together.
My sister lives in Andhra. Can she be tested there?
Usually, yes. Once a fault is found in the family, she can be tested for that exact change at a laboratory near her. She will need a copy of the family's report or a letter from your counsellor naming the change.
We live in a forest village in Bhadradri Kothagudem. How do we start?
Start with a phone call from somewhere with good signal. The first discussion can often happen by phone. If your family speaks Koya at home, mention it, and bring a relative who can help translate if counselling in Koya is not available.
Can the blood sample be taken in Khammam?
Sometimes. Some laboratories collect samples in district towns and courier them to the city. Whether that works depends on the test and the lab. Ask the helpline first, because a sample sent the wrong way may have to be taken again.
Will Aarogyasri or insurance pay for this?
Stand-alone counselling and risk testing are often not covered, because Aarogyasri and most policies are built around treatment. Screening and treatment that follow a result may be covered. Ask the scheme desk or your insurer before the visit, not after it.
