Diagnosis uses triple-phase CT or MRI, the AFP blood marker, and biopsy in selected cases. Assessment of underlying liver function is integral to choosing safe treatment.

Yes. Periodic ultrasound and AFP testing are recommended for people with chronic hepatitis B or cirrhosis so that tumours are found when they are small and treatable.
Not always — characteristic findings on multi-phase CT/MRI in a cirrhotic liver can be diagnostic. Your team will advise if a biopsy adds value.
TACE delivers chemotherapy directly into the artery feeding the tumour and blocks its blood supply. It is used when surgery or ablation is not suitable.
