Most families ask about money only after the treatment plan is decided, and by then the number arrives as a shock. Chemotherapy for ovarian cancer in Hyderabad is quoted per cycle — but you are planning for six of them, plus the tests, day-care charges and supportive medicines around each one. When a hospital gives you an ovarian cancer chemotherapy cost, it almost always quotes one cycle. That is honest as far as it goes — chemotherapy is planned, given and billed in cycles — but it is not the number your family needs. First-line treatment is normally six cycles about three weeks apart, so the figure that matters is the per-cycle price across the whole course, plus everything that sits around it.
Around each cycle there is a blood count to check you are fit for treatment, a doctor review, the day-care bed and nursing time for the infusion, pre-medication and anti-sickness drugs, and sometimes an injection afterwards if your white cells drop. Some of that is inside the quoted price at one centre and outside it at another. That difference, rather than the drug, explains most of the gap between two quotes that look worlds apart.
Sequence changes when you pay rather than how much. If chemotherapy is given first to shrink the disease before surgery, you may have three cycles, then surgery, then three more — the chemotherapy itself costs broadly the same. Ask any centre to convert its per-cycle figure into a whole-course figure before you compare it with anywhere else. Two per-cycle numbers are not comparable if the cycle counts differ.
Pre-cycle blood tests, day-care charges, anti-sickness cover and blood-count support injections are often billed separately from the chemotherapy itself.
Any maintenance therapy after the six cycles is priced per month and continues for a year or more. It is a different decision, taken later, on different evidence.
The drug classes used first-line in ovarian cancer — the platinum and taxane classes — both appear on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines, the list of medicines WHO considers every health system should be able to supply. They have been off-patent for years and are manufactured by several Indian companies, which is why the chemotherapy drug itself is often not the largest line on an ovarian cancer bill. None of these means a centre is being dishonest. Each one means you are looking at part of the picture, and you are entitled to ask for the rest before the first cycle rather than after it.
Ask how many cycles are planned and what the course totals. A per-cycle figure on its own cannot be compared between two hospitals.
Ask in writing whether day-care charges, pre-cycle blood tests, anti-sickness medicines and the doctor review are inside the number or billed on top of it.
Recent scans, films and pathology done elsewhere are usually still valid. Repeating them adds cost without adding information.
Maintenance therapy is decided after the six cycles and priced per month. Bundling it in up front inflates the sum you are asked to commit to now.
Most first-line ovarian chemotherapy is given in a day-care chair and you go home the same day.
Ask before the first cycle. Whether a centre is empanelled, and whether your policy runs cashless there, changes what you actually pay.

These are the levers that make a real difference, in the order worth working through them. None of them involves accepting weaker treatment.
Eligible Telangana residents holding a White Ration Card may be covered for the surgical and chemotherapy components under Aarogyasri, subject to scheme rules, and CION is empanelled. Andhra Pradesh residents come under NTR Vaidya Seva on similar lines. Do this before the first cycle — claims are far harder to arrange retrospectively.

The platinum and taxane class agents used first-line have been off-patent for years and are made to the same standard by several Indian manufacturers. Where the quality is equivalent, your oncologist can prescribe accordingly, and the difference across six cycles is not small.

Bring scans, films, pathology blocks and blood results to the first appointment. Reviewing an existing report at the tumour board costs nothing; repeating the scan does.
