What is the difference between a verbal and written second opinion?
A verbal opinion is what you remember from a conversation — filtered by stress, medical terminology, and whatever you could write down in the moment. A written second opinion is a document. It states the diagnosis, the board's assessment of the treatment plan, and CION's specific recommendation — in language you can read again, share with family, and use to make a decision without relying on memory.

What reports should I bring?
Bring whatever you have. Ideally: your biopsy report (pathology), all imaging (mammogram, ultrasound, MRI, PET-CT), your current prescription or treatment plan, and any blood test results. If you have only some of these — come anyway. The tumour board will review what is available and tell you what additional investigations, if any, would help clarify the picture.
Incomplete records are not a reason to delay a second opinion.
How long does the second opinion review take?
Your initial consultation is used to review your reports and for the oncologist to understand your case in full. After that, the tumour board discusses your case and the written opinion is typically prepared within 1–3 working days, depending on complexity.
Urgent cases — where treatment is imminent — are prioritised. Tell us when you book.
Will CION share my records with my original hospital?
No. Your records are confidential and are not shared with any other hospital or doctor without your explicit written consent. CION's second opinion is completely independent and private. Your original hospital will not be contacted or notified.
What if CION agrees with my original diagnosis?
If CION agrees with your original diagnosis and treatment plan, your written opinion will say so — clearly and specifically. Many patients find this confirmation gives them the confidence to proceed with treatment at their original hospital without further doubt.
Some patients choose to transfer their care to CION anyway — but both paths are entirely your decision. There is no obligation to start treatment at CION.
What if CION recommends a different treatment?
If CION's tumour board believes a different approach is more appropriate for your stage and biology, your written opinion will explain why — citing the evidence and clinical guidelines. This might be a different surgical approach, a different chemotherapy regimen, or a different sequencing of treatments.
You are under no obligation to follow CION's recommendation. The decision is entirely yours.
