Paying for your PET-CT scan

EMI and Payment Options — for a PET-CT Scan

You do not have to pay the full cost of a PET-CT scan upfront. EMI is available at CION partner imaging centres, with no-cost options on select credit cards and standard EMI on most others.

  • No-cost EMI is available — Select credit cards let you split the payment into equal monthly instalments at zero interest.
  • No separate loan needed — EMI conversion happens at the billing desk. No finance application, no credit check beyond your existing card limit.
  • Government schemes may apply — Aarogyasri and CGHS beneficiaries may have the scan covered — check eligibility before paying out of pocket.
  • One ID is enough — Bring your credit card and one government-issued photo ID. Your oncologist's referral is required regardless of how you pay.

How to pay for your PET-CT scan in instalments

  1. Get your oncologist's referral

A written scan request is required before the scan can be booked. Confirm the scan type — whole body or limited field — with your treating doctor before calling the centre.

  2. Contact CION to confirm the partner centre and get a cost estimate

CION coordinates PET-CT at partner imaging centres. The billing team will confirm the scan cost and which payment methods are available at that centre before you travel.

  3. Check your card's EMI eligibility

Before your appointment, confirm with your bank whether your card qualifies for no-cost EMI and what the minimum transaction amount is. Your bank's app or customer care can tell you in a few minutes.

  4. Request EMI conversion at the billing desk

Bring the physical card and a government-issued photo ID. Tell the billing team you want to pay by EMI. Approval through the card terminal is typically immediate.

  5. Confirm payment and proceed to your scan

Once payment is confirmed, your scan appointment is finalised. The EMI appears in your next credit card statement. The instalment amount and tenure are set by your bank, not by CION.

Which EMI options are available, and does any of it cost extra?

No-cost EMI splits your payment into equal monthly instalments with no interest charge. It is available on select credit cards from major Indian banks when the transaction amount clears the minimum your bank sets.

Standard EMI is available on most credit cards even when no-cost EMI is not. Interest is charged at the rate your bank applies to EMI conversions and varies by card and tenure. Ask your bank for the effective annual rate before choosing a tenure.

Debit card EMI is offered by a smaller number of banks and typically requires a linked savings account with a qualifying balance. Confirm with your bank before your appointment and bring a credit card as a backup.

CION does not set EMI tenures or interest rates. Those are determined by your card-issuing bank. The billing desk can confirm which options are available at that centre on the day you arrive.

What documents do you need at the billing desk?

For credit or debit card EMI, bring the physical card and one government-issued photo ID — Aadhaar, PAN, driving licence, or passport.

Your oncologist's written referral is required before any scan is booked. Keep a copy with you on the day of the scan.

If you plan to claim reimbursement from an insurance policy after paying out of pocket, ask for a printed receipt and an itemised bill at the time of payment. These are harder to obtain after the appointment.

If you hold a government scheme card, carry it and the linked ID. Ask the billing team to check your eligibility before paying privately — a private payment cannot be retroactively applied to a government scheme.

Aarogyasri Health Care Trust in Telangana covers PET-CT scans for eligible beneficiaries under defined procedure codes.

If you hold an Aarogyasri card and your oncologist has referred you for a scan, ask the billing team to verify your eligibility before paying privately. Once a private payment is processed, it cannot be retroactively applied to the scheme.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a debit card for EMI on a PET-CT scan?

Debit card EMI is available through a limited number of Indian banks and typically requires a savings account with a qualifying balance. It is less widely supported than credit card EMI, and availability depends on your bank and the payment terminal at the imaging centre. Confirm with your bank before your appointment and bring a credit card as a backup in case debit EMI is not supported on the day.

Is there any processing fee for paying by EMI?

No-cost EMI usually carries no processing fee, though some banks charge a small one-time amount — check with your card issuer before you arrive. Standard EMI interest is reflected in the total you repay over the tenure. CION and the imaging centre do not add a separate fee for requesting EMI; any cost is between you and your card-issuing bank.

Will paying by EMI delay my scan appointment?

No. The EMI conversion at the billing terminal takes a few minutes at most. Your appointment is confirmed once payment clears and the scan proceeds on the same day. If you want to avoid any wait at billing, confirm your card's EMI eligibility with your bank before you arrive.

My insurance will cover part of the cost. Can I pay the rest on EMI?

Yes, in most cases. If your insurer or TPA is paying a portion directly to the imaging centre, the billing team can process the covered portion through the insurer and allow you to pay the balance by card, including by EMI. Confirm this split-payment arrangement with both the billing desk and your insurer before your appointment, as practices vary between centres and policies.

Can I get a refund if my scan is cancelled after I have paid by EMI?

Refunds to a credit card typically reverse the EMI conversion as well, though the timeline varies by bank and can take one to two billing cycles. Ask the imaging centre about their cancellation and refund policy at the time of booking, and keep a written record of the cancellation confirmation. Some centres charge a fee if notice is given late; ask before you finalise the booking.

Should I wait until I can pay in full, or use no-cost EMI now?

If no-cost EMI is available on your card, you pay exactly the same total — spread over a few months rather than upfront. There is no financial disadvantage to using it. Staging and response-assessment scans are time-sensitive, and delaying a recommended scan to save the full amount can affect your treatment plan. If no-cost EMI is available and your card limit allows it, using it now is generally the lower-risk choice.
