Rescheduling or Cancelling — Your PET-CT Scan
If your family has already travelled to reach the centre, or your appointment is close, the most useful thing to know is this: your tracer is prepared for your slot alone and has a limited active window. Calling your centre as early as possible is the action that keeps your options open.

- Your tracer is not shared — Each PET-CT dose is ordered and prepared for your weight, your scan time, and your slot alone.
- Tracers decay — A dose cannot be held for another patient — which is why notice matters and why a charge may apply.
- Earlier is always better — Calling as soon as you know gives the centre the best chance to hold your order before it is prepared.
- CION coordinates your slot — Your CION care coordinator works with the partner imaging centre — one call to them is the starting point.

Yes, you can usually reschedule a PET-CT scan. Call as soon as you know you need to change — the earlier the better. Short-notice changes may carry a charge because your tracer dose is ordered and prepared specifically for your slot and cannot be used for another patient once it decays.
CION does PET-CT in Hyderabad from Rs 10,499 — among the lowest published prices in the city, with no hidden charges. Indicative price, as of September 2026.
Why does cancelling at short notice cost money?
Your PET-CT tracer is ordered specifically for you. It is calibrated to your weight and prepared to arrive at the scanning centre timed exactly to your appointment slot.
Radioactive tracers decay. A dose prepared for your morning slot cannot be held and given to another patient in the afternoon. If the centre has already prepared your dose and you cancel or do not arrive, that dose is lost — which is why a charge may apply.
The earlier you call, the better. Calling well in advance gives the centre time to hold the order before it is prepared. That single action is what reduces or removes any charge.
What do I actually do when I need to reschedule?
- Call your CION care coordinator or the imaging centre immediately — do not wait until the day before.
- Have your appointment reference and scan date ready when you call.
- Ask directly: what is the notice cutoff and will a charge apply?
- Confirm the new date and time before you end the call, and ask for written confirmation.
- Ask for your fasting instructions to be resent for the new appointment.
- If you fall unwell on the day, call before you leave home — not after you arrive.

Did you know?
A PET-CT tracer dose is patient-specific. It is not drawn from a shared supply — it is ordered, prepared, and timed to one patient's scan window.
Telling the centre early is the one action that can prevent the dose being prepared, and the one action that can prevent a cancellation charge.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a charge if I cancel my PET-CT scan?
There may be. The amount and the trigger point depend on how much notice you give and the policy of the imaging centre your scan is booked through. The reason a charge can apply is specific to PET scanning: your tracer dose is ordered and prepared for you individually and cannot be reassigned. Calling as early as possible — ideally the moment you know you need to change — is the most effective way to avoid or reduce any charge. Ask the centre directly what their notice period is when you call.
How much notice do I need to give to avoid a charge?
The exact notice period varies by imaging centre, and CION coordinates your PET-CT scan through partner imaging centres, each of which may have its own policy. There is no single rule that applies everywhere. The safe principle is to call the moment you know you need to change, and ask the centre what their cutoff is. A same-day call is always better than not calling, but it may be too late to prevent a charge if your dose is already being prepared.
What if I feel unwell on the morning of the scan?
Call before you leave home. If you arrive at the imaging centre unwell, your tracer may already have been prepared and the appointment may still be charged. Calling early gives the centre the chance to hold the dose. A genuinely unwell patient should never proceed with a scan — a new slot can always be arranged. When you call, explain that you are unwell so the centre can advise and note the reason for the cancellation.
I travelled several hours to get here. Can I wait and see if I feel better?
Tell the reception team when you arrive. Some imaging centres can accommodate a short delay within a slot; others cannot because the tracer has a limited active window. Staff will tell you what is possible on the day. If the scan cannot proceed, mention to the CION team that the distance was a difficulty — they can discuss whether a different centre location is more practical for your future appointments.
Can I book a new date on the same call?
Yes, you can request a new date when you call to cancel or reschedule. Whether you are charged for the missed slot and when the next available date is are two separate questions. Availability depends on the partner centre's schedule and tracer ordering lead times. Your CION care coordinator can help find an alternative slot and can flag urgency to the imaging centre if your oncologist needs the result quickly.
Will rescheduling delay my cancer treatment?
It may delay it by days or a week or two depending on availability, and whether that matters depends on why the scan was ordered. If your oncologist needs the result to make a treatment decision at a specific point, say so when you reschedule — the team can flag urgency and look for the earliest nearby slot. Do not hold off calling because you are worried about the gap. The earlier you call, the more options there are.
