PSMA, DOTATATE and FAPI PET-CT Cost — in Hyderabad
All three specialised tracers — PSMA, DOTATATE and FAPI — are priced the same at CION partner imaging centres in Hyderabad. The difference from a standard FDG scan comes from how the tracer is made, not how long the scan takes.

- One price for all three — PSMA, DOTATATE and FAPI PET-CT are each priced at ₹23,999 (indicative, September 2026).
- Tracer production is the cost driver — Each specialised dose is synthesised fresh for your appointment. That manufacturing step is what you are paying for.
- Your oncologist decides which one — The referral letter specifies the tracer. You do not choose it, and one tracer cannot be substituted for another.
- Confirm availability before assuming a date — Specialised tracers are produced in limited batches. Call to check before booking.

What does each specialised PET-CT cost?
| Scan | Indicative cost | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| PSMA PET-CT | ₹23,999 | Prostate cancer — staging, restaging, rising PSA after treatment |
| DOTATATE PET-CT | ₹23,999 | Neuroendocrine tumours — diagnosis, staging and follow-up |
| FAPI PET-CT | ₹23,999 | Tumours where a previous FDG scan gave an unclear result |
| FDG PET-CT | Less than specialised tracers — confirm at booking | Most other cancers — general staging and monitoring |
| Prices are indicative and confirmed at the time of booking. Correct as of September 2026. |
Which tracer do you need?
- Your oncologist specifies the tracer on the referral — you do not choose it yourself.
- PSMA PET-CT is ordered for prostate cancer, typically when PSA has risen after treatment or to assess the extent of spread.
- DOTATATE PET-CT is ordered when a neuroendocrine tumour is suspected or already confirmed.
- FAPI PET-CT is ordered when a previous FDG scan was inconclusive and a clearer picture is needed.
- If your referral does not name a tracer, ask your oncologist before booking — a dose prepared for the wrong indication cannot be reused.
- If you are self-paying, bring the referral in writing so the booking team can request the correct tracer from the production facility.

Why do specialised tracers cost more than a standard FDG scan?
FDG — the tracer used in most PET-CT scans — is produced in large batches and distributed across many imaging centres on the same day. PSMA, DOTATATE and FAPI cannot be handled that way.
Each specialised dose is synthesised for a specific appointment. Production is timed to your scan because these tracers have short half-lives and decay too quickly to be stockpiled or shared between centres.
That on-demand manufacturing is what you are paying for. The scanner, the imaging time, and the radiologist's report cost roughly the same for any PET-CT — the tracer is what changes the price.
CDSCO regulatory requirements for radiopharmaceuticals also mean that every batch must pass quality controls before it can be administered. This applies across India, not only in Hyderabad.
How to book a specialised PET-CT through CION
Get your referral
Ask your oncologist for a written referral that names the tracer — PSMA, DOTATATE or FAPI. The booking team needs this to request the correct dose from the production facility.
Call to confirm tracer availability
Specialised tracers are produced in limited batches and are not available every day. Call the imaging centre to check availability on your preferred date before making any other arrangements.
Confirm your appointment and pay
You will be given a specific date, time and arrival window. Arrive exactly when asked — the dose is prepared for your slot and cannot be held if you are late.
Follow preparation instructions
Preparation varies by tracer. The team will tell you whether fasting is required, what to eat or avoid beforehand, and whether any medication needs to be paused before the scan.
Have the scan
You will receive the tracer by injection and wait while it distributes through your body before imaging begins. The team will tell you how long to allow for the full appointment.
Receive the report
Your oncologist receives the PET-CT report and images. Ask at your next appointment when to expect a follow-up discussion of the findings.
Book a PET-CT at CION from Rs 10,499 — among the lowest published prices in Hyderabad — with an oncologist-reviewed report and a free Rs 950 consultation, across 4 partner centres. Indicative price, as of September 2026.

Frequently asked questions
What does a PSMA PET-CT cost in Hyderabad?
At CION partner imaging centres in Hyderabad, a PSMA PET-CT costs ₹23,999 (indicative, September 2026). This is confirmed at the time of booking. DOTATATE and FAPI PET-CT are priced at the same level. A standard FDG PET-CT is less expensive — ask for the current figure when you call.
Why does a DOTATATE or PSMA scan cost more than a normal PET-CT?
Almost all of the difference is in the tracer. FDG is made in large batches and distributed to multiple centres in a single production run. Specialised tracers like DOTATATE, PSMA and FAPI are synthesised in small runs timed to specific appointments, because they decay too quickly to be stored or shared between centres. That on-demand production is the cost driver. The scanner time and the radiologist's report are priced similarly for any PET-CT.
Does insurance cover PSMA or DOTATATE PET-CT?
Coverage varies by insurer and policy. Some private and corporate health plans cover specialised PET-CT where the referral documents why a standard FDG scan was insufficient. Government schemes such as Aarogyasri have defined procedure ceilings — check the current ceiling with the billing team before booking, as it may not fully cover the cost. Bring your referral, policy document and any pre-authorisation your insurer requires on the day.
Can I request a PSMA scan myself, without a referral from my oncologist?
No. Specialised PET-CT tracers are radiopharmaceuticals regulated by CDSCO and can only be administered on a physician's referral. The booking team also needs the referral to request the correct tracer from the production facility. Booking without a referral is not possible, and a dose prepared for the wrong tracer cannot be substituted once it has been synthesised.
Is FAPI PET-CT available in Hyderabad?
FAPI PET-CT is available at CION partner imaging centres in Hyderabad. Because it is one of the newer tracers in routine clinical use, scheduling may be more limited than for PSMA or DOTATATE — call to confirm availability before assuming a date is open. Your oncologist will indicate whether FAPI is appropriate for your case, typically when a previous FDG scan gave an inconclusive result.
How far in advance do I need to book a specialised PET-CT?
Book as soon as your oncologist gives you the referral rather than waiting for your next appointment window. Specialised tracers are produced in batches and slots can fill quickly, particularly for PSMA and DOTATATE. The booking team will tell you the earliest available date and the preparation you need to follow before arriving.
