Ayushman Bharat, CGHS and EHS — Coverage for PET-CT
All four major government health schemes operating in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh cover PET-CT. At an empanelled centre you pay nothing — but you need an active scheme card, a written referral, and in some cases prior authorisation before the scan can proceed.

- Four schemes cover it — Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, CGHS, Telangana EHS and AP Dr. YSR Aarogyasri all cover PET-CT at empanelled centres.
- Zero out of pocket at empanelled centres — Eligible beneficiaries pay nothing. The scheme settles the bill directly with the imaging centre.
- A referral letter is mandatory — No scheme will process a PET-CT request without a written referral from an authorised specialist.
- Empanelment changes — always check — A centre empanelled last year may not be active today. Confirm on the scheme portal before travelling.

Which centres are empanelled for scheme PET-CT?
PET-CT under any government scheme is available only at centres on that scheme's current empanelled list.
For PM-JAY, search by pin code at pmjay.gov.in. For CGHS, the city-wise diagnostic centre list is at cghs.gov.in. For Telangana EHS and AP Aarogyasri, the list is on the Aarogyasri Health Care Trust portal.
Empanelment status changes without notice. Call the centre to confirm it is active and that its PET-CT equipment is operational before you travel.
CION coordinates PET-CT through partner imaging centres. The CION team at your nearest centre can tell you which partner currently accepts your scheme and will arrange the referral documentation.

What documents do you need to bring?
- Your scheme card — original and a photocopy (Ayushman Bharat e-card, CGHS card, EHS card, or Aarogyasri card)
- A written referral from your treating oncologist, on letterhead, stating the clinical reason for the scan
- Aadhaar card (original) — required at all scheme counters for identity verification
- For CGHS: a referral from a CGHS Medical Officer or CGHS-authorised specialist — an external oncologist's letter alone is not sufficient
- For EHS: your government service identity card or a recent pay slip confirming active scheme membership
- All previous scan reports and biopsy results — the imaging team needs these to set up the correct scan protocol
How do you get a PET-CT done under a government scheme?
Check your card is active
Confirm your scheme membership is current before anything else. For PM-JAY, verify your name on the beneficiary list at pmjay.gov.in. For CGHS, check that your card has not lapsed. An expired or inactive card will not be accepted at the empanelled centre.
Get a referral from your oncologist
The referral must be in writing, on letterhead, and must state the clinical reason — staging, response assessment, or restaging. For CGHS, the referral must come from or be countersigned by a CGHS Medical Officer. An external letter from a private specialist alone is not enough.
Find an empanelled imaging centre in your city
Check the scheme's official portal for the current empanelled list, then call the centre to confirm it is active. Do not travel without calling first — empanelment status and equipment availability both change.
Book your appointment and gather all documents
Contact the empanelled imaging centre directly to book. Bring your scheme card, referral letter, Aadhaar card, and all previous scan and biopsy reports. Arriving with an incomplete set of documents will delay the scan.
Get pre-authorisation approved before you travel (PM-JAY and Aarogyasri)
PM-JAY and AP Aarogyasri require a pre-authorisation code from the scheme trust before the scan begins. The imaging centre's help desk submits this on your behalf. Confirm the code is approved before making the journey for your scan appointment.
Confirm the claim is submitted before you leave
Before leaving the imaging centre, ask the front desk for a claim reference number or written acknowledgement. Keep all the documents you brought — you may need them if the claim is queried by the scheme authority.
Book a PET-CT at CION from Rs 10,499 — among the lowest published prices in Hyderabad — with an oncologist-reviewed report and a free Rs 950 consultation, across 4 partner centres. Indicative price, as of September 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Is Ayushman Bharat PET-CT available in Hyderabad and across Telangana?
Yes. PM-JAY operates across Telangana, and empanelled diagnostic centres offering PET-CT are listed on pmjay.gov.in — search by your district or pin code. The list changes, so check it before booking rather than relying on what someone else has told you. The help desk at your treating hospital or CION centre can also confirm the nearest currently active empanelled centre.
What is the CGHS rate for PET-CT?
CGHS publishes its PET-CT package rate in the diagnostic rate schedule on cghs.gov.in, listed by city tier, and revises it periodically. Empanelled diagnostic centres must accept this rate as full payment and cannot charge you the difference. If you use the reimbursement route — because your centre is not CGHS-empanelled — you are reimbursed up to the CGHS rate ceiling and pay any amount above it yourself.
Can I use my EHS card for PET-CT arranged through CION?
CION coordinates PET-CT through partner imaging centres rather than scanning in-house. Whether a specific partner centre is EHS-empanelled depends on that centre and may change. The CION team at your nearest centre can confirm which partner currently accepts EHS and will help arrange the referral documentation. Confirm this before your appointment rather than assuming.
Can I get reimbursed if I pay out of pocket first?
CGHS allows reimbursement up to the published CGHS rate if you pay at a non-empanelled centre, provided you have a valid referral and all required documents. PM-JAY and Aarogyasri do not offer a reimbursement route — the scan must be done at an empanelled centre for the scheme to cover it. If you have already paid out of pocket, ask the imaging centre's billing desk quickly whether a retrospective cashless claim is possible; the window is short and not guaranteed.
My scheme card was issued in another state. Will it work in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh?
PM-JAY is a national scheme and is portable — your e-card should be accepted at any PM-JAY-empanelled centre across India, including in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. CGHS is also portable nationally. State schemes — Telangana EHS and AP Dr. YSR Aarogyasri — are not portable outside their home state. If you are a state government employee seeking treatment in the other state, you would need to pay out of pocket and apply for reimbursement through your employer's medical reimbursement rules.
What if the nearest empanelled imaging centre is far from where I live?
Most schemes do not cover travel costs to an empanelled imaging centre. AP Dr. YSR Aarogyasri has a patient transport allowance for some BPL beneficiaries — ask the Aarogyasri help desk whether it applies to your situation. If distance is a genuine barrier, ask your oncologist to note the clinical urgency in writing; this can sometimes help the scheme identify a closer active centre. The CION team can also check which partner imaging centre nearest to you currently accepts your scheme.
