Aarogyasri or NTR Vaidya Seva: — Which Scheme Applies to You?

It depends on whether that specific hospital is empanelled under NTR Vaidya Seva. Hospitals in Hyderabad are primarily listed under Aarogyasri, but some may also accept NTR Vaidya Seva for Andhra Pradesh patients. The only way to know for certain is to call the hospital's scheme helpdesk and ask before your appointment. Do not assume the card will be accepted — cross-state coverage is not automatic and must be confirmed each time.

When Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated, the Aarogyasri scheme continued in Telangana under the same name. Andhra Pradesh launched its own separate scheme, now called NTR Vaidya Seva. If your card was issued before bifurcation, the state that currently administers your household's registration determines which scheme covers you now. If you are unsure, contact the district welfare office in your home district.

Both schemes publish lists of empanelled hospitals. For Aarogyasri, contact the Telangana Aarogyasri helpline or check the Telangana health department's official portal. For NTR Vaidya Seva, contact the AP scheme helpline or the AP health department portal. You can also call the hospital directly and ask whether they are listed under your specific scheme. Always confirm before you travel, not on the day of your appointment.

Both schemes cover a defined list of procedures, and if your treatment is not on that list you will need to pay privately or explore other financial assistance. Ask your oncologist which procedure code applies to your treatment, then check that code against your scheme's approved list. Your hospital's scheme helpdesk can also tell you which procedures they can process under the scheme and which they cannot.

Living near the border does not automatically give you access to the neighbouring state's scheme. You can only use the scheme linked to the state that issued your card. If you hold an NTR Vaidya Seva card and a hospital across the border in Telangana is closer, check with that hospital whether they are also empanelled under NTR Vaidya Seva. If they are not, you would need to pay privately or travel to an empanelled hospital in Andhra Pradesh.

Bring your original white card or ration card, your Aadhaar card, and any referral letter issued by a government hospital. Also carry discharge summaries and investigation reports from previous visits — network hospitals need these to process scheme authorisation. Keep photocopies of everything. A missing original document on the day of admission can delay the entire process, so prepare your file the evening before each trip.
