What to carry and arrange before each trip

  • Carry your Aarogyasri card and a government-issued photo ID on every visit.
  • Bring all previous scan reports, blood test results, and discharge summaries.
  • Carry any medicines your oncologist has prescribed for the day of chemotherapy.
  • Pack water and a light snack — waiting times can extend your day.
  • Save your CION care coordinator's contact number in your phone before you travel.
  • Do not travel alone on chemotherapy days — a family member or carer should accompany you.
  • Book your bus seat or vehicle the day before, not on the morning of your appointment.
  • Ask at booking whether your session will finish early enough for a same-day return.

Does Aarogyasri cover chemotherapy in Hyderabad?

Karimnagar is in Telangana. The applicable government health scheme is Aarogyasri, which covers listed cancer treatments at empanelled hospitals.

Whether your treatment is covered depends on your individual eligibility, the empanelment status of the centre you attend, and whether your regimen is on the approved list. Confirm all three with the CION admissions team before your first visit — not after.

Aarogyasri also provides a travel allowance for eligible patients travelling significant distances. Ask the scheme coordinator at your treating centre what the current rate is and how to claim it. If you are not covered by Aarogyasri, the CION team can advise on other state or central schemes you may qualify for.

Did you know?

Patients on a standard multi-cycle chemotherapy regimen may travel between Karimnagar and Hyderabad six or more times across three to four months.

Establishing a reliable routine — the same bus, the same packing list, the same companion — makes every subsequent trip less stressful than the first.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I return to Karimnagar the same day as chemotherapy?

For most patients with a morning appointment, same-day return is possible. Chemotherapy at CION is day care — you are treated and discharged the same day, without overnight admission. That said, some sessions run longer than others, and tiredness after treatment is real. Plan your return journey with a buffer rather than a fixed bus booking, and ask your oncologist at your first visit how long your particular regimen typically takes.

Which CION centre should I go to from Karimnagar?

The CION team will advise you on the most appropriate centre when you register. Mention that you are travelling from Karimnagar — your appointment time can be arranged with your journey in mind. The locations listed on this page show all CION centres across Hyderabad and Telangana.

Is there a direct train from Karimnagar to Hyderabad?

Direct train connections between Karimnagar and Hyderabad are limited. Most available services require a change or have timings that do not suit a day trip for treatment. Road travel — by TSRTC bus or hired vehicle — is the practical choice for most patients. Check the IRCTC website for current schedules before each trip, as services change over time.

What if I feel unwell on the journey back?

Tell your care team before you leave the centre if you feel unwell — they will advise whether it is safe to travel. If symptoms develop during the journey, ask your companion to stop somewhere safe and rest. Do not try to manage serious symptoms in a moving vehicle. Save your CION care coordinator's number before you travel. If symptoms are severe, go to the nearest emergency department rather than continuing the journey home.

How much does the bus or taxi from Karimnagar to Hyderabad cost?

Bus fares on TSRTC services vary by coach type — ordinary, express, and Volvo services are priced differently. Hiring a private vehicle costs more but gives flexibility if you are tired after treatment. If you qualify for Aarogyasri, ask about the travel allowance, which can offset part of the cost. Any figure given here would quickly become outdated — check current fares directly with TSRTC or your vehicle contact.

Should I eat before chemotherapy?

It depends on your specific regimen — some are better tolerated with a light meal beforehand, others with a lighter stomach. Ask your chemotherapy nurse at your first visit what is recommended for you. On the journey to Hyderabad, staying well hydrated matters. A long drive before treatment is tiring, and arriving dehydrated makes the day harder.
