The short answer

Can we get liver cancer care explained in Telugu at CION?

Yes. You can ask for your consultation, your treatment plan and your reports to be explained in Telugu at any CION centre in Hyderabad. Tell the helpline when you call, so the appointment is arranged with that in mind.

Why language matters in liver cancer

Liver cancer decisions are hard to follow even in your first language. The team weighs the tumour, how well the liver works and how fit the person is, and the words on the report are unfamiliar. A parent who understands only part of the conversation may agree to something they have not understood, or refuse something that would have helped. Hearing it in Telugu gives the whole family the same picture.

Primary or secondary: which one is this?

Before anything else, ask which kind of liver cancer it is. Primary liver cancer starts in the liver. Secondary liver cancer has spread there from another organ, such as the bowel or breast, and is treated as that cancer. Our page on the two very different things called liver cancer explains the difference.

Reports themselves are usually printed in English. Ask the doctor to go through yours line by line in Telugu.

What you can ask for

Which parts of liver cancer care can happen in Telugu?

Most of the conversations that matter can be held in Telugu. Ask at each step, because nobody minds being asked.

The consultation and second opinion

Your oncologist can explain the diagnosis, the stage and the options in Telugu, and answer the family's questions in the same language. Bring every scan and report you have.

The treatment plan

After the tumour board discusses the case, the plan is explained to you. Ask for the reason behind it in Telugu, and what happens if you choose differently.

Ask especially about

  • Why this treatment and not another
  • What the liver can safely take
  • Where each step takes place

Medicines and side effects

For immunotherapy, targeted therapy or chemotherapy at CION, ask the nurse to explain in Telugu which side effects to watch for at home and when to call.

Scheme and cost paperwork

The team can help with Aarogyasri and other scheme paperwork and explain each form in Telugu. Rules change often, so check details at the time.

Not sure whether this applies to you?

Words you will hear

What do the liver cancer words mean in Telugu?

Liver · కాలేయం
The large organ under the right ribs that cleans the blood and makes proteins. Many families also say "liver" in Telugu speech.
Liver cancer · కాలేయ క్యాన్సర్
Cancer in the liver. Ask whether it started there or spread from somewhere else.
Lump or lesion · గడ్డ
A spot seen on a scan. Not every spot is cancer, and the scan or a biopsy decides what it is.
Jaundice · కామెర్లు
Yellow eyes and skin from bilirubin building up. It has many causes, and a doctor should check it soon.
Cirrhosis · కాలేయం గట్టిపడటం
Scarring that makes the liver hard and less able to work. It changes which treatments are safe.
Ascites · కడుపులో నీరు
Fluid collecting in the abdomen. Fever or pain with it needs hospital the same day.
Second opinion · రెండో అభిప్రాయం
Another specialist reviewing the scans and plan before you decide.
Palliative care · ఉపశమన సంరక్షణ
Care for symptoms and comfort at any stage, alongside other treatment.

Before the visit

How do we arrange a Telugu consultation?

Call the helpline and say Telugu

Mention that the patient or the family prefers Telugu. One helpline serves every CION centre, so you do not need to know which centre to ask for.

Gather every report in one file

Scans, scan discs, biopsy reports, blood tests and discharge summaries. Our page on keeping a single liver cancer file shows how.

Write your questions down in Telugu

Families often forget the most important question in the room. A written list keeps the conversation on what you actually need to know.

Bring the person who decides

In many Telugu families, decisions are made together. Bring the son, daughter or elder who will help decide, so nobody hears it second hand.

Leave a number, we will call you

One field. No form to fill in, and no charge for the call.

Commonly believed

What Telugu families often believe about liver cancer

"Liver lo gadda means it is cancer."

Many liver spots are harmless, such as a haemangioma or a simple cyst. Some are cancer. Only proper scans, and sometimes a biopsy, can tell, so the follow-up scan must not be skipped.

"Kamerlu can be treated with herbal medicine at home."

Jaundice is a sign, not a disease. It can come from a blocked bile duct, hepatitis or a tumour, and some herbal remedies damage a weak liver further. A doctor should find the cause first.

"Stop giving him dal, egg and meat to rest the liver."

People with liver disease usually need enough protein to keep their muscles. Cutting it can weaken them. Ask the team what to eat.

"It must be because he drank."

Hepatitis B, hepatitis C and fatty liver cause many liver cancers in people who never drank. Risk factors are not fault, and blame helps nobody get better.

Being straight with you

What this page cannot tell you

It cannot tell you what your report means or which treatment is right. That needs a doctor who has seen the scans, the blood tests and the person. Some procedures, such as scans, TACE, ablation and surgery, are arranged through accredited partner hospitals, and your team will tell you where each one takes place.

It is not a full Telugu page

This page is in English with key words in Telugu, for the family member who reads English. A full Telugu edition of the liver cancer pages is being prepared separately. Until then, our liver cancer glossary in Telugu covers more words.

Who this does not apply to

If the family prefers another language, such as Hindi or Urdu, ask the helpline in the same way. If the person is vomiting blood, very drowsy or confused, or has a fever with a swollen abdomen, go to hospital today instead of waiting for an appointment.

If you are not sure what to ask first, call the helpline and say so, in Telugu.

Questions we are asked

Common questions about liver cancer care in Telugu

Can the doctor explain everything in Telugu?

You can ask for that, and the team will do its best to make sure the patient and family understand in Telugu. Mention it when you book. If a word or idea is still unclear, ask again. A good consultation is one where you leave knowing what happens next and why.

Will the reports be in Telugu?

Scan, biopsy and blood reports are usually printed in English, because they are written for doctors. Ask the doctor or nurse to explain each important line in Telugu, and write the meaning beside it so you can show the rest of the family later.

Can my parent in a district have a Telugu teleconsultation?

A first conversation or a follow-up can sometimes happen by video, with reports shared in advance. A physical examination is still needed before most treatment decisions. Our page on teleconsultation for liver cancer explains when it works.

What does CION treat directly, and what is arranged elsewhere?

Consultations, second opinions, the tumour board, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, chemotherapy, symptom care and follow-up happen at CION centres. Scans, biopsy, TACE, ablation, surgery, radiation and transplant are coordinated through accredited partner hospitals. Your team will tell you where each step happens.

Can the family join the consultation?

Yes, and it usually helps. Bring the person who will help decide and the person who will care at home. If relatives abroad want to hear it, ask whether they can join by phone or video, and agree beforehand who will ask the questions.

Is there help with Aarogyasri forms in Telugu?

The team can help with scheme paperwork and explain what each form asks for. Whether a treatment is covered depends on the scheme's current rules and the hospital, which change from time to time. Check the position before treatment starts, and keep copies of everything you submit.

The family wants to hide the diagnosis from him. What should we do?

This is common and comes from love. But a person who does not know cannot take part in decisions about his own body. Talk to the doctor first about how to tell him gently, in Telugu, at a pace he can manage. Most people cope better with the truth than families expect.

Where can I read more in Telugu?

Start with our glossary of liver cancer words in Telugu and the Telugu family guide. A full Telugu edition of these pages is being prepared. In the meantime, the helpline can answer questions in Telugu and point you to the right page or the right person.

Your Specialists

Meet CION's liver cancer specialists. Bring your scan reports and liver blood tests.

Our medical and surgical oncologists plan liver cancer care together, weighing the tumour and how well your liver works before choosing surgery, a liver-directed procedure or medicines.
