Liver radiation cost in Hyderabad: what SBRT usually costs | CION Cancer Clinics

The short answer
How much does SBRT for a liver tumour cost in Hyderabad?
A full course of SBRT, focused high-dose radiation, for a liver tumour usually costs between ₹1,50,000 and ₹3,00,000 in Hyderabad, as a 2026 estimate. That figure is for the radiation course itself. Planning scans, blood tests, markers placed in the liver and any other treatment are usually quoted on top.
What this page covers
This page is about radiation aimed at the liver from outside the body, for cancer that started in the liver or, in some cases, cancer that spread there. Y-90, where radioactive beads are passed into the liver's arteries, is a different procedure with a different bill. It is covered on the Y-90 cost page.
Why the range is so wide
Two people with the same diagnosis can get very different bills. The machine and technique used, the number of sessions, the tumour's position near the breathing muscle, and whether your hospital stay is covered all change the figure. Insurance and government schemes change what you pay out of pocket even more.
The right treatment comes first. The cheapest course is no saving if it is the wrong one for your liver.Indicative cost
What liver radiation and the main alternatives usually cost
These are ranges, not quotes. Radiation is often weighed against TACE or ablation, so their ranges are shown beside it.
SBRT, per course
Focused radiation to one or a few liver tumours over a small number of visits.
TACE, per session
Blocking the tumour's blood supply through a catheter. Many people need more than one session.
Radiofrequency ablation
Heat through a needle, for small tumours in a position the needle can safely reach.
Indicative only, 2026 Hyderabad estimates. Planning scans, PET-CT, biopsy, fiducial markers, blood tests and Y-90 are quoted separately. Insurance and government schemes can change your out-of-pocket cost completely. Ask for a written, itemised estimate before treatment starts, and check scheme rules at the time, because they change.
What moves the bill
Why is my radiation estimate higher or lower than the range?
The figure on your estimate comes from a handful of choices. Knowing them helps you read the paper you are given.
The technique
SBRT uses precise image guidance and is planned with great care. A lower-dose course given to ease pain is simpler and usually costs less. Proton therapy is rarely available and is quoted very differently.
Breathing and tumour position
The liver moves as you breathe. Tumours near the diaphragm may need breathing control or small gold markers placed first. Each adds a step and a cost.
What else sits in the plan
Radiation is often one part of a longer plan with TACE, tablets or immunotherapy. The full bill for a multi-step plan is much larger than the radiation alone.
Often quoted separately
- Planning CT or MRI scans
- Follow-up scans after treatment
- Liver blood tests and AFP
- Medicines for side effects
Your cover
Private insurance, Aarogyasri, Ayushman Bharat, CGHS, ECHS and ESI each have their own rules on radiation. Which hospital is empanelled matters as much as the treatment.

Before you pay anything
How do you get a written estimate and use your scheme?
Get the plan in writing
Ask your oncologist to write down the treatment recommended, the number of sessions, and whether other treatment will follow. An estimate means little without the plan behind it.
Ask for an itemised estimate
Request a line-by-line estimate from the radiation centre. Check what is included: planning, each session, review visits and any hospital stay. Ask what is quoted separately.
Check your insurance or scheme
Call your insurer or TPA with the estimate. For Aarogyasri or Ayushman Bharat, ask the hospital's scheme desk whether liver radiation is covered and what paperwork is needed. CION's team can help with the forms.
Ask what happens if the plan changes
Liver treatment often changes once the first scan is back. Ask how a revised plan is billed, and get any change in writing too. Keep every receipt and report together, because insurers and schemes ask for them.
Commonly believed
What families often assume about radiation costs
Often it is, but not always. An operation may be one step. Radiation may sit inside a longer plan with TACE or tablets. Compare whole plans, not single treatments.
Y-90 is a procedure through the arteries with imported beads and a separate mapping scan. It is billed very differently from radiation given from outside the body.
Many schemes do cover radiation for cancer, at empanelled hospitals and with approval first. The details change, so check them when you are ready to start, not from an old message on WhatsApp.
Not necessarily. Prices differ with the machine, the hospital's costs and what the package includes. Ask what is in the price before judging it.
Being straight with you
What this page cannot tell you
It cannot tell you what your own treatment will cost. That depends on the plan your team recommends, the centre that delivers it and your cover. Only a written estimate against your own plan answers that.
It cannot tell you whether radiation is right for you
Radiation suits some liver tumours and not others. It may not suit a liver that is badly scarred and struggling, or cancer that has already spread widely. The page on who SBRT suits explains how that decision is made.
Who this does not apply to
These ranges do not apply to Y-90, proton therapy or transplant. They also do not cover the full cost of a multi-step plan. The liver cancer treatment page gives the broader picture.
CION coordinates radiation through accredited partner radiation centres. Your team will tell you where it takes place.Questions we are asked
Common questions about liver radiation costs
What is the cost of SBRT for liver cancer in Hyderabad?
As a 2026 estimate, a course of SBRT for a liver tumour usually costs between ₹1,50,000 and ₹3,00,000. Planning scans, blood tests and markers are often quoted separately. Your own figure depends on the plan and your cover, so ask for a written, itemised estimate.
Is SBRT cheaper than TACE?
One TACE session can cost less than a course of SBRT, but many people need several TACE sessions. The two are also not always interchangeable. Your tumour board chooses on the tumour and the liver first, then you compare the cost of the whole plan.
Does Aarogyasri cover liver radiation?
The scheme covers several cancer treatments at empanelled hospitals, but rules and packages change. Check with the hospital's scheme desk when you are ready to start. The page on Aarogyasri for liver cancer explains how it works.
Will my health insurance pay for SBRT?
Most policies cover radiation for cancer, but limits, waiting rules and room categories differ. Send the itemised estimate to your insurer or TPA before treatment and ask for pre-approval in writing. This is general information, not advice on your policy.
Why is Y-90 not in the table?
Y-90 is a separate procedure through the arteries, with its own mapping scan and imported material. It is quoted separately and varies a great deal. The page on Y-90 cost in India explains what builds that bill.
Are there extra costs after radiation finishes?
Usually, yes. Follow-up scans, liver blood tests and review visits continue after treatment. Medicines for tiredness, nausea or other side effects may be needed. Ask for these to be listed on your estimate so nothing comes as a surprise.
Can I get a second opinion before paying for radiation?
Yes, and it is sensible for a large decision. Bring your scans, reports and liver blood tests. CION's tumour board can review whether radiation, TACE, ablation or another option fits your liver best.
Does CION offer loans or instalments?
No. CION does not offer loans or instalment plans. What the team can do is help you understand the estimate, check your scheme or insurance paperwork, and make sure the plan you pay for is the one your liver needs.
What moves the figure
What affects the cost
Four things change the total more than anything else.
The technique used
A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.
How many sessions
The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.
Supporting tests
Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.
Your cover
Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance usually change the out-of-pocket figure substantially.
Paying for it
Insurance, schemes and payment
What you actually pay usually differs a great deal from the sticker figure.
