The short answer

Which hospitals in Hyderabad treat liver cancer under Aarogyasri?

Several government and private hospitals in Hyderabad are empanelled under Aarogyasri for cancer care, but empanelment is granted hospital by hospital and treatment by treatment. A hospital listed for cancer surgery may not be listed for TACE, and the list changes. Check the specific hospital, for the specific treatment, before you travel.

Why a name on a list is not enough

Liver cancer treatment usually has several steps: scans, a biopsy in some cases, a procedure such as surgery, ablation or TACE, and sometimes medicines given over months. Each step may fall under a different scheme package, or under none. One hospital might cover the operation but not the scans before it. Families often find this out at the billing counter, which is the worst moment to learn it.

Which scheme is yours

Telangana residents use Aarogyasri. Andhra Pradesh residents use Dr NTR Vaidya Seva, a separate scheme with its own list of hospitals. Ayushman Bharat, also called PM-JAY, works alongside both. If you are not sure which card you hold, read Aarogyasri and NTR Vaidya Seva for liver cancer first.

Where you may be treated

What kinds of centre take part, and what does each usually offer?

The names change, so this describes the kinds of hospital rather than listing them. Confirm every detail with the hospital itself.

Government cancer and teaching hospitals

Large public hospitals in Hyderabad treat many scheme patients. Queues can be long, but they often see complex liver cases and have several specialties on one campus.

Private multispecialty hospitals

Many are empanelled for some cancer packages. Ask whether liver surgery, interventional radiology and medical oncology are each covered, because one being listed does not mean the others are.

Transplant centres

Liver transplant is handled by licensed transplant centres, and scheme cover for it works differently from routine cancer care.

Ask the transplant centre directly. Rules change and must be checked at the time.

Cancer clinics such as CION

Empanelment is specific to each centre and each treatment. Ask the helpline whether the CION centre you plan to visit is currently empanelled for the care you need.

CION can help with

  • Scheme paperwork and pre-approval forms
  • Telling you which steps are covered and which are not

Not sure whether this applies to you?

Ask an oncologist

Before you travel

How do I check that a hospital is empanelled for my treatment?

Get the treatment name in writing

Ask your doctor to write down what is planned: surgery, TACE, ablation or medicines. The scheme desk needs the treatment, not just the word cancer.

Phone the hospital's scheme desk

Most empanelled hospitals have an Aarogyamitra or scheme coordinator. Ask whether that exact treatment is covered there today.

Ask what happens before approval

Pre-approval is usually needed before a planned procedure. Ask whether scans and tests done before approval are paid by the scheme or by you.

Carry every document

Your health card or ration card, Aadhaar, previous scans, biopsy report and the doctor's note. Missing papers are the commonest cause of delay. How to apply for Aarogyasri lists them in full.

Ask about the gaps

Ask in plain words what you will have to pay for yourself, and get the answer written down.

Questions to ask

What should I ask the scheme desk, and why does it matter?

Ask this Because
Is this exact procedure covered here? Surgery, TACE and ablation can each sit under a different package
Are scans and the biopsy included? Tests done before approval are often paid separately
Are the medicines covered? Some newer liver cancer medicines may fall outside the package
What if a complication needs a longer stay? Families need to know who pays before, not after
Will follow-up scans be covered? Surveillance after treatment continues for a long time

Commonly believed

What families assume about Aarogyasri, and what is true

"If the hospital takes Aarogyasri, everything will be free."

The scheme pays for approved packages. Some tests, medicines and stays can fall outside them. Read what Aarogyasri does not cover in liver cancer so the gaps do not surprise you.

"A friend was treated there last year, so it must still be empanelled."

Empanelment and packages are revised. A hospital can be added, removed or have its list of treatments changed. Check again each time.

"Scheme patients get a lower standard of care."

The treatment plan should be the same as for anyone else with the same cancer and the same liver. If a plan seems to be shaped by the card rather than the illness, ask for a second opinion.

"Liver cancer linked to drinking is not covered."

Cover depends on the scheme's rules for the treatment, not on judging how the illness began. Tell the doctor the full history. Hiding it does not help the claim and can harm the treatment plan.

Being straight with you

What this page cannot tell you

It cannot give you a current list of empanelled hospitals, the package amounts or the approval rules. Those are set by the scheme and change. We have not quoted any of them, because a figure that was right last year can cost a family dearly today. The hospital's scheme desk and the official scheme office are the people who can answer for your card and your treatment.

It is not legal or financial advice

This is general information about how the scheme usually works. If a claim is refused, ask the hospital's scheme coordinator for the reason in writing, and contact the scheme's grievance office. Does Aarogyasri cover liver cancer treatment? explains what is usually included.

Who this does not apply to

If you hold private health insurance or a government employee scheme such as CGHS or ESI, different rules apply. Read does health insurance cover liver cancer instead. If you live outside Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, your own state scheme or Ayushman Bharat is the one to check.

Questions we are asked

Common questions about Aarogyasri centres for liver cancer

Is CION empanelled under Aarogyasri?

Empanelment is specific to each centre and each treatment, and it can change. Call the helpline before your visit and ask whether the CION centre you plan to attend is currently empanelled for the care you need. If it is not, the team can still explain your options honestly.

Where do I find the official list of empanelled hospitals?

The scheme publishes its own list of hospitals, and the scheme office and Aarogyamitras at hospitals can confirm it. Because the list is updated, always confirm by phone with the hospital's scheme desk for your exact treatment before you travel from your district.

Does Aarogyasri cover TACE for liver cancer?

It may, at hospitals empanelled for that procedure. TACE is done by interventional radiology, so the hospital needs that service on its scheme list. Ask the scheme desk specifically about TACE, not just about cancer care. Packages are revised, so check at the time.

Are liver cancer medicines covered?

Some may be and some may not, depending on the scheme and the current package list. Newer targeted and immunotherapy medicines are the most likely to fall outside it. Ask before you start, and ask whether the scheme desk can apply for the medicine before the first dose is due.

Can I use my AP card at a Hyderabad hospital?

Dr NTR Vaidya Seva has its own list of empanelled hospitals, which may include some in Hyderabad. It is a separate scheme from Aarogyasri. Ask the hospital which scheme it accepts before you travel, and carry your Andhra Pradesh card and documents.

What if the hospital says my treatment is not in the package?

Ask for that in writing and ask which hospital is empanelled for it. Sometimes a different package fits, sometimes another hospital is listed. If you still cannot get an answer, contact the scheme's grievance office. A second opinion on the plan can also help.

Do I need a referral to get treated under the scheme?

The process can involve a health camp, a primary centre or a direct visit to an empanelled hospital, and the rules change. Ask the Aarogyamitra at the hospital what applies to you now. Bring all your reports so the diagnosis does not have to be repeated.

Will the scheme pay for follow-up scans after treatment?

It depends on the package and the hospital. Liver cancer needs regular scans for a long time after treatment, so ask about follow-up cover at the start, not at the end. Keep every report in one folder, because each claim needs them.
