Liver cancer surgery cost in Hyderabad: what to expect | CION Cancer Clinics

An open liver resection in Hyderabad usually costs between ₹3,00,000 and ₹6,00,000, and a keyhole resection between ₹3,50,000 and ₹7,00,000, as 2026 estimates. Your own bill depends on the size of the operation, the health of your liver and the length of your stay. This page explains what moves the cost and how to get a written estimate. At CION Cancer Clinics, a multidisciplinary tumour board weighs your liver function and your scans before recommending any treatment.

The short answer

How much does liver cancer surgery cost in Hyderabad?

As a rough guide for 2026, an open liver resection in Hyderabad usually costs between ₹3,00,000 and ₹6,00,000, and a keyhole (laparoscopic) resection between ₹3,50,000 and ₹7,00,000. These are indicative ranges, not quotes. Your own bill depends on how much liver is removed, the state of the liver left behind and how the recovery goes.

What a liver resection is

A resection is an operation that removes the part of the liver holding the tumour. The liver that remains regrows over the following months. The operation itself is explained on liver resection (hepatectomy). This page is only about the money.

Who this page is for

It is written for families facing surgery for cancer that started in the liver, or for bile duct cancer inside the liver. If the tumours in the liver spread from the bowel, the plan and the costs are covered on the colon cancer pages. If you have been told surgery is not possible because of cirrhosis, read why surgery is often impossible in cirrhosis first, because the cost of the operation will not be your question.

Ask for a written, itemised estimate before admission. A verbal figure is easy to misremember later.

Indicative cost

What do the ranges look like for each approach?

These are 2026 Hyderabad estimates. They are ranges, not quotes, and the hospital where the operation takes place will give you its own figure.

₹3,00,000 – ₹6,00,000

Liver resection, open

Through a cut in the upper abdomen. Often chosen for larger tumours or those close to major blood vessels.

₹3,50,000 – ₹7,00,000

Liver resection, laparoscopic

Keyhole surgery through small cuts. Special equipment adds to the bill, though the stay is sometimes shorter.

₹3,00,000 – ₹12,00,000 or more

Full multi-step treatment

When surgery is one step among several, such as treatment before the operation or extra treatment if the cancer returns.

Indicative only, 2026 Hyderabad estimates. If you are covered by insurance or a government scheme, your own share can be very different from these figures. Whether a particular operation at a particular hospital is covered must be checked at the time. Call the helpline for help reading an estimate against your own cover.

Why bills differ

What makes the bill go up or down?

Two people with the same diagnosis can receive very different bills. These are the usual reasons.

How much liver is removed

A small wedge or a single segment is a shorter operation than removing half the liver. A bigger operation means more theatre time, more monitoring and often a longer stay.

The liver left behind

A liver with cirrhosis or fibrosis (scarring) heals more slowly. It may need closer watching after surgery and more blood tests, which adds to the cost.

Intensive care and the hospital stay

Most people spend a short time in intensive care after a major resection. Each extra night in intensive care or on the ward is one of the biggest drivers of the final figure.

Often added on top

  • Blood and blood products
  • Drains, scans or procedures for a complication
  • The room category chosen

Your other health conditions

Diabetes, heart disease or kidney problems can mean more tests before surgery and closer care after it. See surgery with other illnesses.

Leave a number, we will call you

One field. No form to fill in, and no charge for the call.

Read the estimate

What is usually in the package, and what is billed separately?

Often inside a surgery package Often quoted separately
Surgeon's and anaesthetist's fees Scans and tests before the operation, such as triple-phase CT or MRI
Operation theatre and standard equipment Special stapling or sealing devices used in keyhole surgery
A set number of nights in intensive care and on the ward Extra nights beyond the package, and a higher room category
Routine medicines and nursing during the stay Blood transfusions, and treatment of any complication
The pathology report on the removed tissue Follow-up scans and AFP blood tests after discharge

Before you are admitted

How do you get a written estimate and sort out cover?

Get the surgical plan first

The tumour board decides whether surgery is right and what kind. A cost estimate only means something once the type of operation is clear. CION's surgical oncologists assess and plan the operation, and your team will tell you where it takes place.

Ask for an itemised estimate

Request it in writing, with the package listed line by line and what happens if the stay runs longer than planned.

Check your insurance

Send the estimate to your insurer or TPA for pre-authorisation. Ask about room-rent limits and co-payment, which often decide the amount you pay yourself.

Check scheme eligibility

Aarogyasri in Telangana and Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) cover some cancer operations at empanelled hospitals. The rules and package lists change, so confirm at the time. See does Aarogyasri cover liver cancer treatment.

Keep every paper together

Reports, the estimate, approval letters and bills in one folder make claims and reimbursements far easier. CION helps with scheme paperwork.

Being straight with you

What this page cannot tell you

It cannot tell you what your own operation will cost. That depends on your scans, your liver tests and the plan your surgeon writes, and it can change if recovery is slower than expected. Only the hospital where the operation takes place can give you a binding figure.

Who these figures do not apply to

They do not cover a liver transplant, which is a different operation with very different costs; see transplant cost and what it includes. They do not cover TACE, ablation or radiation given instead of surgery, and they do not cover operations on children.

Cost should not decide the treatment alone

The cheapest option is not always the safest, and the costliest is not always better. Ask the team why they recommend an approach, and what the alternatives would mean for you. Then decide with the cost in view, together as a family.

If money is the reason you are hesitating, say so early. The team can often plan around it.

Questions we are asked

Common questions about liver surgery costs

Is keyhole liver surgery more expensive than open surgery?

Usually the starting cost is a little higher, because of special equipment. A shorter stay can narrow the gap. Not every tumour can be removed safely by keyhole surgery, so the choice is made on the tumour and your liver first, and on cost second.

Does insurance cover liver resection for cancer?

Most health insurance policies cover cancer surgery, subject to the policy terms. Waiting periods, room-rent limits and exclusions vary widely. Ask your insurer or TPA for pre-authorisation with the written estimate, and read the reply carefully before admission.

Can Aarogyasri pay for liver cancer surgery?

Aarogyasri covers several cancer operations at empanelled hospitals for eligible families. Which operations are covered, and at which hospitals, changes from time to time. Check with the scheme desk at the hospital before admission, with your card and reports in hand.

Why did my final bill exceed the estimate?

The most common reasons are a longer stay in intensive care, blood transfusions or treatment for a complication. Ask the billing desk for an itemised bill. You are entitled to see what each charge was for and to ask questions about it.

Are the tests before surgery included?

Often they are not. Scans, blood tests and heart checks before the operation are usually charged separately. CION arranges these through accredited diagnostic partners. Ask whether recent scans you already have can be used, to avoid repeating them.

What will follow-up cost after the operation?

Follow-up scans and AFP blood tests continue for a long time after surgery, and they are billed visit by visit. Plan for this ongoing cost from the start. Hepatitis B tablets, if needed, also continue and are a separate expense.

Can the cost be paid in instalments?

CION does not offer loans or instalment plans. Some families rely on insurance, government schemes, employer support or charitable help. The CION team can talk you through the paperwork for any scheme or insurance you may be eligible for.

How do I get a cost estimate for my own case?

Bring your scans, blood reports and any biopsy result to a consultation. Once the team agrees on a surgical plan, you can ask for a written, itemised estimate. Call the helpline if you are not sure where to start.

What moves the figure

What affects the cost

Four things change the total more than anything else.

The technique used

A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.

How many sessions

The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.

Supporting tests

Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.

Your cover

Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance usually change the out-of-pocket figure substantially.

Paying for it

Insurance, schemes and payment

What you actually pay usually differs a great deal from the sticker figure.
