The short answer

How much does one TACE session cost in Hyderabad?

One session of TACE in Hyderabad usually costs somewhere between ₹75,000 and ₹2,50,000 in 2026. The total depends far more on how many sessions you need, the type of TACE, and the condition of your liver than on the hospital's headline price.

What TACE is, in one paragraph

TACE stands for transarterial chemoembolisation. A thin tube is passed through an artery in the groin or wrist up to the liver. Chemotherapy is delivered straight into the vessels feeding the tumour, and those vessels are then blocked. It is mainly used for primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, or HCC) that is too large or too spread out inside the liver for surgery or ablation, often called BCLC stage B. The technique itself is explained on the TACE procedure page.

Who this page is for

This page is for a patient or family who has been told TACE is the plan, or might be, and wants to know what to budget for. If the cancer in the liver started somewhere else, such as the bowel, the costs and choices are different. Start with the page on TACE for liver metastases instead.

CION does not carry out TACE itself. It is coordinated through NABH-accredited partner hospitals with interventional radiology teams.

Indicative cost

What TACE and the treatment around it usually cost

These are 2026 Hyderabad estimates, not quotes. Your own figure depends on your liver, your tumour and your cover.

₹75,000 – ₹2,50,000

TACE, per session

Covers the procedure, the drug and embolic material, the stay and routine checks around it. Bead TACE usually sits towards the upper end.

₹80,000 – ₹3,00,000 or more

Systemic therapy, per cycle

Only relevant if your team adds tablets or immunotherapy alongside TACE, or switches to them later.

₹3,00,000 – ₹12,00,000 or more

Full multi-step treatment

For people whose plan combines several treatments over months, such as TACE followed by surgery, ablation or systemic therapy.

Indicative only, 2026 Hyderabad estimates. Scans, blood tests, biopsy and any extra hospital days are quoted separately. Insurance and government schemes can change your out-of-pocket cost completely. Ask for a written, itemised estimate before the first session, and check scheme rules at the time, because they change.

What moves the bill

Why two people pay very different amounts for TACE

The price of one session is only part of the story. These are the things that push the total up or down.

How many sessions you need

Many people need more than one session, spaced weeks apart, with a scan in between. Some need it repeated later if the tumour returns. A plan that needs three sessions costs roughly three times one session. Read how many TACE sessions people usually need.

Conventional or bead TACE

Conventional TACE mixes the drug with an oily dye. Drug-eluting bead TACE uses tiny beads that release the drug slowly. Beads cost more. Your team picks the type for medical reasons, not cost alone.

The state of your liver

People with weaker liver function, or cirrhosis with fluid in the tummy, may need a longer stay and more blood tests. Problems after TACE, such as infection or a dip in liver function, add hospital days.

Often adds to the bill

  • Extra nights in hospital
  • Repeat blood tests and scans
  • Medicines for pain, fever and sickness afterwards

Room type and hospital

A private room usually raises other charges too, because many hospitals link fees to the room category. A shared room is often the single easiest saving.

Leave a number, we will call you

One field. No form to fill in, and no charge for the call.

Read the estimate

What is usually inside a TACE package, and what is not?

Usually inside the package Often billed separately
The procedure, catheter and embolic material The triple-phase CT or MRI before TACE
The chemotherapy drug used during TACE The follow-up scan to check the response
A short planned stay and nursing Extra days if recovery is slow
Routine medicines on the ward Consultations, AFP and other blood tests over time

Before you pay

How do you get a written estimate and use your cover?

Ask for the plan in writing

Ask how many sessions are planned, which type of TACE, and what happens if the first one does not work. A cost only makes sense next to a plan.

Ask for an itemised estimate

Ask what is in the package and what is not. Ask for the cost of one extra hospital day, so you know the price of a slower recovery.

Check your insurance or scheme

Private insurers usually need pre-authorisation. Aarogyasri, Ayushman Bharat, CGHS, ECHS and ESI each have their own rules for which hospitals and procedures are covered. The rules change, so check them at the time. Does Aarogyasri cover liver cancer treatment? explains how it works.

Get help with the paperwork

CION's team can help collect reports and fill scheme forms, and can tell you which partner hospitals are empanelled for your cover.

Being straight with you

What this page cannot tell you

It cannot tell you your own cost. That depends on scans, blood tests and a plan your team has not yet made. Only an itemised estimate from the hospital doing the procedure can give you a real figure.

It cannot tell you whether TACE is right for you

TACE suits some people with HCC and not others. It is usually not offered when the liver is badly weakened, when the main portal vein is blocked by tumour, or when the cancer has spread outside the liver. In those cases spending on TACE may bring risk without benefit. The page on when TACE is not safe covers this.

Who this does not apply to

These figures do not apply to children, to bile duct cancer, or to TARE (Y-90), which is priced separately and differently. They also do not apply if your treatment is being paid fully by a scheme or employer, where what you pay may be very little.

If the cost is the reason you are hesitating, say so to your team. There is often more than one reasonable plan.

Questions we are asked

Common questions about the cost of TACE

Is the price for one session or the whole treatment?

Quoted TACE prices are almost always for one session. Many people need more than one, spaced out with a scan in between. Ask how many sessions are planned and multiply. Then add scans, blood tests and consultations, which are usually billed separately from the procedure package.

Why is bead TACE more expensive?

The beads themselves cost more than the oily dye used in conventional TACE. Both are established methods. Your team chooses based on the tumour, your liver and the hospital's experience. If cost matters, it is fair to ask whether conventional TACE would be just as suitable for you.

Does Aarogyasri pay for TACE?

Government schemes such as Aarogyasri and Ayushman Bharat cover many cancer treatments at empanelled hospitals, and liver-directed treatment may be among them. What is covered, and where, changes over time. Check with the scheme office or the hospital desk before treatment, and keep copies of every report.

Will private health insurance cover TACE?

Most policies that cover cancer treatment cover TACE as a hospital procedure, subject to the policy's limits and exclusions. You usually need pre-authorisation before the procedure. Read the policy wording on room rent, because a room above your limit can reduce what the insurer pays on the whole bill.

Is TACE cheaper than surgery?

One TACE session usually costs less than a liver operation, but the two are not alternatives for the same person. Surgery is for tumours that can be removed with enough healthy liver left. TACE is mostly for tumours that cannot. Repeated TACE sessions can also add up to a similar total.

Why does the quote differ so much between hospitals?

Hospitals bundle different things into the package, charge differently by room type, and use different materials. Compare itemised estimates line by line, not headline prices. A lower quote that leaves out the follow-up scan or extra days may not be lower in the end.

Can I delay TACE to save money?

Delay can let the tumour grow or spread to the portal vein, which may close off TACE and other options. If money is the problem, tell your team early. They can look at scheme cover, a shared room, or a different sequence of treatment rather than waiting.

How can CION help with TACE costs?

CION's tumour board reviews your scans and plan, and the team coordinates TACE through NABH-accredited partner hospitals. They can help you get a written estimate, gather reports and complete scheme paperwork. Call the helpline and someone will explain the next step.

What moves the figure

What affects the cost

Four things change the total more than anything else.

The technique used

A shaped or image-guided delivery costs more than a conventional one, and is chosen on clinical grounds rather than preference.

How many sessions

The total is driven by the number of sittings or cycles, not by a single per-visit figure.

Supporting tests

Scans, blood work and pathology done alongside treatment are billed separately.

Your cover

Aarogyasri, CGHS, ECHS, EHS or cashless insurance usually change the out-of-pocket figure substantially.

Paying for it

Insurance, schemes and payment

What you actually pay usually differs a great deal from the sticker figure.
