Which CION specialist should you see first?

Each one handles a different part of cancer care. Many people see two or three of them over the course of treatment.

Medicines doctor (medical oncologist)

Plans chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy, and keeps watch on side effects between visits. Often the doctor you see most.

At Banjara Hills

  • Dr. Owais Mohammed

Cancer surgeon (surgical oncologist)

Judges whether the tumour can be removed and how, and takes many of the biopsies that confirm what it is.

On the team

  • Dr. Imaduddin Mohammed, who sees patients at Banjara Hills
  • Dr. Muralidhar Muddusetty

Radiation doctor (radiation oncologist)

Decides whether radiotherapy will help, which area to treat and for how long. Your care team tells you where and when they see patients.

On the team

  • Dr. Kirti Ranjan Mohanty
  • Dr. Gangadhar Vajrala

Blood specialist (haematologist)

Looks after leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and blood count problems. Start here if the worry came from a blood test or a bone marrow test.

On the team

  • Dr. Basudev Pokhrel

What are the first steps after you call?

  1. 1

    Tell us what was found

Our care team asks what the reports say, which hospital did the tests, and which language you prefer. Then they book a time with the right doctor.

  2. 2

    Gather every paper

Biopsy reports, scan CDs, blood tests and discharge summaries. Old papers matter too, because the doctor may need one line from an early report.

  3. 3

    Meet the oncologist

The doctor goes through each report, examines the patient and explains what is known. Bring the family member who helps decide.

  4. 4

    Agree a plan

After any missing tests, your case is discussed by several specialists. You hear the plan, the choices and a written estimate before treatment begins.

More CION Specialists

Every case goes to CION’s network tumour board, where these specialists from CION’s centres join your doctor. Ask for any of them when you book.

What do the words on your first report mean?

Biopsy

A small piece of tissue taken and looked at under a microscope. It is usually what confirms that a growth is cancer.

Stage

How far the cancer has spread. Most treatment choices are built on it.

Grade

How unusual the cancer cells look compared with normal cells. It is a different thing from stage.

Tumour board

A meeting where cancer doctors of different kinds look at one case together and agree a plan.

Day-care chemotherapy

Treatment given in a chair or bed over some hours, after which you go home the same day.

How can you tell the care you are offered is sound?

The doctor reads every report you bring

Why it matters: Small details in old tests can change the plan

Other specialists review the case

Why it matters: One view can miss a better order of treatment

You are told who the treatment will not help

Why it matters: Honest limits protect you from needless side effects

A written cost estimate comes first

Why it matters: Your family can plan money before anything starts

There is a number to call from home

Why it matters: Problems between visits get handled early

What can you get done at CION Banjara Hills?

Consultations and chemotherapy take place at CION Banjara Hills. An operation or radiotherapy is planned by your doctors here and booked by your care team at the centre that does it, so you know where it will happen before you agree.

1Chemotherapy without a hospital stay

For most people, chemotherapy here is day-care. You arrive, your blood counts are checked, the treatment is given, and you sleep at home that night. If your plan needs an overnight stay, your oncologist tells you well ahead.

2Finding the centre

The centre is in Banjara Hills, a short walk from Errum Manzil Metro and close to the Irrum Manzil bus stop. It is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Call the helpline for directions to the door before your first visit.

3Coming from nearby areas

People from Jubilee Hills, Film Nagar, Yousufguda, Punjagutta and Madhapur often find this centre easy to reach. If Ameerpet, Masab Tank or another CION centre in Hyderabad suits you better, the same helpline books it.

Good to know

No web page can tell you which doctor fits your case. Your reports can. Share them with our care team first.

Which beliefs delay families from seeing a specialist?

Myth

"We should wait and see if the lump grows."

What is true: Waiting rarely makes a decision easier. Seeing a specialist early means the right tests are done once, and you either get reassurance or start a plan while more choices are open.

Myth

"The most expensive hospital gives the safest care."

What is true: Cost does not tell you whether doctors treat your cancer often or plan together. Ask who will review your case and how often they see cancers like yours.

Myth

"Telling the patient will make them give up."

What is true: Many patients cope better when they know what is happening and take part in choices. How much to share is your family's decision, and the doctor can help you have that talk gently.

Myth

"Once treatment starts, we cannot change doctors."

What is true: You can ask for a second opinion at any point. A good team will share your reports and help you understand any difference between the two views.

Leave your number and our care team calls you back, or call any time. One helpline serves every CION centre.

Medically reviewed by Dr. Owais Mohammed, Consultant Medical Oncologist (MBBS, MD (General Medicine), DrNB (Medical Oncology), ECMO, MRCP SCE (Medical Oncology) (UK)). Last reviewed October 2026. Questions families ask about cancer doctors in Banjara Hills

Still unsure? Call 1800 202 8726.

1Who sees patients at CION Banjara Hills?

Medical oncologist Dr. Owais Mohammed and Head of Surgical Oncology Dr. Imaduddin Mohammed see patients here. They work with the wider CION team of surgical, radiation and blood cancer specialists. Call the helpline to check which doctor is in on the day you plan to come.

2Can I book without a letter from my family doctor?

Yes. Call the helpline or leave your number on this page and our care team will fix a time. A letter is helpful but not needed. It is far more useful to bring every report, scan CD and discharge summary you already have.

3Will I get chemotherapy at the Banjara Hills centre?

Yes. Chemotherapy is given here, mostly as day-care, so you go home the same day. Your oncologist checks your blood counts before each treatment and tells you early if your plan needs a hospital stay instead.

4What if I need an operation or radiotherapy?

Those are not done at Banjara Hills. Your CION doctors plan them, and your care team books them at the centre that does them. You are told the name of that centre and given a written estimate before you agree to anything.

5Is there a street address I can use for directions?

The centre is in Banjara Hills, near Errum Manzil Metro and the Irrum Manzil bus stop. Call the helpline before your visit and the care team will guide you to the entrance, and confirm that the doctor you need is in that day.

6Does the centre help with health insurance?

CION's team helps with cashless insurance and gives you a written estimate before you start. Bring your policy details and insurance card to the first visit. If an employer or government scheme covers you, mention it when you call so it can be checked.

7Can I get my current treatment plan reviewed here?

Yes. Bring the plan from the other hospital and all the reports behind it. An oncologist will tell you whether they agree and explain why if they do not. A second opinion does not commit you to having treatment at CION.

8Can relatives come first without the patient?

Yes. Many families start with a talk about the reports, especially when the patient is weak or lives far away. The doctor will need to see the patient before treatment is planned, but a lot can be explained to you at that first meeting.
