Blood is checked, anti-sickness medicine is given, and the drugs run in a day-care chair. Most people go home the same evening, a little tired.

Tiredness, a poor appetite or mild sickness are common. Take the home tablets as written, drink plenty and rest without guilt.

Around the middle of the cycle, white cells often dip. This is when infection is most likely. Fever at this time needs emergency care the same day.

Energy usually returns. Your blood is checked again, and if the counts have recovered, the next round goes ahead. If they have not, the round waits a few days. That is normal and keeps you safe.
Not every option suits every cancer. Tests on your tumour and your general health decide which ones apply.

Medicines that act on a specific change in the cancer. A test on the tumour shows whether that change is present.
Drugs that help your immune system find the cancer. Its side effects can appear in unexpected places, so they are watched closely.
Used for cancers that grow on hormones, such as many breast and prostate cancers. Often tablets taken at home for a long time.
Medicines for pain, sickness, appetite and sleep. These matter as much as the cancer drugs for how you feel day to day.
A review of a plan made elsewhere, with a clear answer on whether he agrees and why.
Every case goes to CION’s network tumour board, where these specialists from CION’s centres join your doctor. Ask for any of them when you book.

Start with a Consultation
Ask for the doctor you want, or we’ll match you.
Consultations with Dr. C. Raghavendra Reddy and chemotherapy both take place at CION Kukatpally. Operations and radiotherapy are planned with you, but given at a centre that does them, which your team names before you agree.
CION Cancer Clinics is inside OMNI Hospitals on the Mumbai Highway, opposite Big Bazaar, Balaji Nagar, Kukatpally, Hyderabad 500072. It is about an eight-minute walk from Kukatpally Metro and near the Balaji Nagar bus stop.
Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. On chemotherapy days, the team gives you an arrival time so your blood test is done before the doctor sees you.
Families from KPHB, JNTU, Bharat Nagar, Moosapet, Miyapur, Balanagar and Nizampet often find this the shortest trip. That matters more than people expect. Chemotherapy brings you back again and again, and every journey home after a long day in the chair is a tiring one.
Your plan may also call for a surgical or radiation oncologist. Dr. C. Raghavendra Reddy discusses your case with them at the tumour board, so you do not have to carry the story from one doctor to the next. The care team then books each appointment and tells you where it is.
Good to know
If someone on treatment develops a fever or bleeding, go to the nearest emergency department first and inform us after.
A treatment day followed by a rest gap. Plans are written as a number of these.
First-line is the first plan tried. Second-line is used if the cancer grows despite the first.
Putting off a round for a few days, usually so blood counts can recover.
A small device placed under the skin of the chest so drips do not need a new needle in the arm each time.
How the cancer has changed on a scan during treatment: shrinking, stable or growing.
Myth
What is true: There are many different drugs and combinations. A breast cancer plan and a bowel cancer plan can look nothing alike. Comparing with a neighbour's treatment rarely helps.
Myth
What is true: Patients usually cope better when they understand what is happening. They also report side effects sooner. The oncologist can help you decide how to talk about it.
Myth
What is true: A port is simply a convenience. It protects the veins in the arm when many drips are planned. It says nothing about how advanced the cancer is.
Myth
What is true: Side effects and benefit are not linked that way. Some people with few side effects respond very well. Scans and blood tests show whether treatment is working.
What you need to hear: A rough time, so you can arrange leave and transport
What you need to hear: A written estimate before the first dose
What you need to hear: Help with cashless claims, checked before you begin
What you need to hear: A clear number and clear advice on emergencies
What you need to hear: Often yes, if you say so early, before the schedule is fixed

Dr. C. Raghavendra Reddy sees patients at CION Kukatpally. He trained in general medicine and then in medical oncology. He plans cancer medicines with CION's surgical and radiation oncologists, and plans are discussed at a tumour board before they are confirmed.
Yes. Chemotherapy is given at CION Kukatpally as day-care, so most people go home the same day. If a treatment needs an overnight stay, the oncologist tells you at the planning stage and explains where it will happen.
Get off at Kukatpally Metro. The centre is about an eight-minute walk away, inside OMNI Hospitals on the Mumbai Highway, opposite Big Bazaar in Balaji Nagar. The Balaji Nagar bus stop is also close by.
The centre is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Confirm your appointment the day before, and on chemotherapy days arrive at the time the team gives you so the blood test is ready when the doctor sees you.
Yes. Bring the written plan and every report behind it. Dr. C. Raghavendra Reddy will tell you whether he agrees, and if not, what he would change and why. It does not commit you to treatment at CION.
CION's team helps with cashless insurance and gives you a written estimate before you start. Bring your insurance card and policy details to the first visit, and mention any employer or government scheme when you call so it can be checked early.
Usually not. Most chemotherapy is given in a day-care chair and you sleep at home. A few drug combinations run longer or need closer watching. Your oncologist tells you in advance if yours is one of them.
Treat fever during chemotherapy as urgent. Go to the nearest emergency department the same day, take your treatment papers, and tell them you are on chemotherapy. Then call the CION care team so your oncologist knows.
