Start with a Consultation
Ask for the doctor you want, or we’ll match you.

Read out the key lines of the report. The care team decides how soon you should be seen, and books Dr. Pokhrel at Kukatpally or L.B. Nagar.

History, examination and a careful read of every report. Dr. Pokhrel explains what fits and what does not.

A bone marrow test, a gland biopsy, or protein tests. The team tells you where each is done.

Treatment advised, other options, a written estimate, and the place for each step, including whether day-care at Masab Tank is possible.

Blood counts before each dose, and reviews with the haematologist as treatment goes on.
CION Masab Tank is a consultation and day-care chemotherapy centre in the Lakdikapul area. The haematology consultation is held at Kukatpally or L.B. Nagar, but this centre can still be part of your care.
CION Cancer Clinics, 10-1-1, Utkoor - Mogdumpur Road, AC Guards, Lakdikapul, Hyderabad 500028. It is about five minutes from Lakdikapul Metro and near the Masab Tank bus stop. The centre is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
Families from Lakdikapul, Khairatabad, Basheer Bagh, Nampally, Himayat Nagar and Mehdipatnam often find Masab Tank the nearest CION centre. The helpline books every centre, so you can choose by what is easiest for the patient.
Some treatment for acute leukaemia needs a hospital bed and close watch on counts. If a stem cell transplant is ever discussed, that too happens elsewhere. Your care team names the hospital and explains why, before you agree to anything.
Good to know
This page explains where things happen. It cannot tell you what your own results mean.
Myth
What is true: They can be. They can also be a low haemoglobin with a cause worth finding. A simple blood count tells you which, and costs far less than months of guessing.
Myth
What is true: Most can eat normally, with some food-safety care when white counts are low. The care team gives practical advice for each phase of treatment.
Myth
What is true: Lymphoma often leaves the blood count normal. A swollen gland that persists needs checking even if the count looks fine.
Myth
What is true: For most blood cancers, a short pause to confirm the type is time well spent. For acute leukaemia, treatment should not wait, and a good team will tell you so plainly.
Why: The trend matters more than one result
Why: They can be reviewed without a repeat biopsy
Why: Some affect blood counts
Why: So the team can start the cashless process

Dr. Basudev Pokhrel sees patients at CION Kukatpally and CION L.B. Nagar, not at Masab Tank. The care team that serves Masab Tank can still take your call, look at the reports, and book the consultation at whichever of the two suits you.
He holds an MBBS, an MD in Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion, and a Fellowship in Clinical Haematology from CMC Vellore. He focuses on blood cancers and blood disorders, and on the transfusion support that patients often need during treatment.
Chemotherapy is given at CION Masab Tank as day-care. You sit in a day-care chair, nurses watch over you, and you go home the same day. Whether your treatment can be given there is Dr. Pokhrel's decision, based on the type of blood cancer.
Tell the care team exactly what the report says. If it suggests something urgent, such as blasts or very low counts, they will try to get you seen quickly. If the patient is acutely unwell, go to an emergency department first and call afterwards.
Both can treat it, and practice varies between hospitals. At CION, lymphoma is routed to Dr. Pokhrel, the haematologist, who works with the medical and radiation oncologists when a combined plan is needed. The tumour board reviews complex cases.
Not without a reason. Recent reports from a recognised lab are usually accepted. Biopsy slides may be reviewed again by the lab, and a test may be repeated if the result is unclear or too old. The team explains why each time.
CION's team helps with cashless insurance and gives you a written estimate before you start. Bring your insurance card and policy papers to the first visit. If an employer or government scheme covers you, tell the care team when you call so they can check.
Yes, for a first conversation. Bring every report, and a list of symptoms and medicines. The haematologist can explain what the reports suggest and which tests come next. He will need to see the patient before treatment is planned.
