Four things, and the answer can change if any one of them changes.
The type of cancer changes the operation. Some types are removed with a wide rim of tissue, others with less, and some are better treated without surgery at all.
How large the tumour is, what it touches, and whether glands or other organs are involved. An operation helps most when the cancer is still in one area.
Heart, lungs, sugar and nutrition all matter. Sometimes a few changes before surgery make the operation and recovery much safer.
Your work, your family, how you eat and speak, and how you feel about changes to your body. A good surgeon asks, and plans around the answers.
Medicines or radiotherapy first is usual when: The tumour is large or close to vital structures
Medicines or radiotherapy first is usual when: Many glands are involved
Medicines or radiotherapy first is usual when: The body needs time to get stronger
Medicines or radiotherapy first is usual when: Shrinking it first could make the operation smaller
Every case goes to CION’s network tumour board, where these specialists from CION’s centres join your doctor. Ask for any of them when you book.
Decide whether an operation can remove the cancer, and when.

Start with a Consultation
Ask for the doctor you want, or we’ll match you.

Your care team names the hospital and tells you how far it is. Plan who will travel with the patient and who will stay nearby.

Keep the written estimate, insurance papers and every report in one folder. CION's team helps with cashless insurance.

Eat well, walk daily if you can, and stop smoking. Ask the surgeon which of your usual medicines to pause, and when.

Arrange help for the first days at home, soft foods if needed, and a follow-up visit at CION L.B. Nagar.
The surgical consultation, the plan, chemotherapy and follow-up can all happen at CION L.B. Nagar. Only the operation is done at another hospital, which your care team names.
Chemotherapy is given at this centre, usually as day-care, so you go home the same day. If your plan includes medicines to shrink the tumour first, or to lower the chance of the cancer coming back afterwards, there is no need to travel elsewhere for them.
CION Cancer Clinics, Ground floor, Anu Arcade, H.No. 3-4-148, near L.B. Nagar Metro Station, RTC Colony, L.B. Nagar, Hyderabad 500074. The centre sits beside the Metro station and close to the L.B. Nagar bus stop. It is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
People from Dilsukhnagar, Saroornagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar, Nagole and Uppal often find L.B. Nagar the easiest CION centre to reach. If another CION centre suits you better, the same helpline books it.
Good to know
This page cannot tell you whether you need an operation. Your reports and a surgeon's examination can.
A small sample of tissue taken to check for cancer. It tells the surgeon what type of cancer it is.
Cutting out the tumour. A wide excision takes a rim of healthy tissue around it as well.
The edge of the tissue removed. A clear margin means no cancer cells were found at that edge.
A small gland near the tumour. Removing a few lets the laboratory check whether the cancer has travelled.
Treatment given before the operation, usually to make the tumour smaller.
Myth
What is true: A planned cancer operation does not make the disease more aggressive. When cancer returns, it is because some cells were already elsewhere, which is why the tissue report and follow-up matter.
Myth
What is true: Treatment before an operation is a common, planned approach. It can shrink a tumour so the operation is smaller and more complete. Ask when the surgeon will look at it again.
Myth
What is true: Many people with diabetes have cancer surgery safely. The sugar needs to be well controlled first, and the team will help with that before a date is set.
Myth
What is true: A lump that is growing, hard or fixed should be seen by a specialist now. Most turn out to be harmless, but waiting only helps the ones that are not.

Dr. Vinay Mamidala and Dr. Muralidhar Muddusetty, both surgical oncologists, see patients at CION L.B. Nagar. They plan with CION's medical and radiation oncologists, and cases are reviewed at the tumour board. Call the helpline to check which surgeon is in on your chosen day.
No. The centre is for consultations, planning, chemotherapy and follow-up. Your care team names the hospital where the operation takes place, and tells you how far it is from you, before your family agrees to anything.
For many families in Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar and Nagole, it is the easiest CION centre to reach, and it sits right beside the Metro station. If another CION centre suits your travel better, tell the care team when you call and they will book it.
It depends on what still needs checking. A biopsy, scans or fitness tests may come first, and some cancers are better treated with medicines before surgery. Your surgeon explains each step and why, so you know what you are waiting for and roughly how long.
Yes. Chemotherapy is given at CION L.B. Nagar, usually as day-care. A medical oncologist plans it, before or after the operation, and works from the same records as your surgeon. You do not have to repeat your story to each new doctor.
CION's team helps with cashless insurance and gives you a written estimate before you start. Bring your insurance card and policy papers to the first visit. That gives the team time to check your cover before an operation date is set.
Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The centre is on the ground floor of Anu Arcade in RTC Colony, beside L.B. Nagar Metro Station and close to the bus stop. Call before you come so the surgeon you want to see is in.
Yes, and it is a sensible step before a large operation. Bring the advice and every report behind it. A CION surgeon will tell you whether they agree, and why if they do not. It does not commit you to having the operation through CION.
