Reports are read, missing tests are done and the tumour board agrees the order of treatment. You receive a written plan and a written cost estimate before anything is given.

These are watched most closely. The team learns how your body handles the drugs, and the anti-sickness and other support medicines are adjusted to suit you.

Part-way through, a scan usually shows whether the cancer is shrinking, holding steady or growing. The plan continues, changes or moves on to surgery or radiotherapy depending on the answer.

Side effects ease over the following weeks. Some people continue a lighter treatment or tablets at home to keep the cancer in check.

Regular check-ups, at gaps your oncologist sets. You are told which new symptoms should bring you back before the next visit is due. The gaps usually grow longer as time passes without trouble.

Start with a Consultation
Ask for the doctor you want, or we’ll match you.
The person caring at home often notices problems first. These are the things that make the biggest difference.
All reports, prescriptions and treatment cards in one place, in date order. Bring it to every visit, and to any emergency department.
Keep a thermometer at home. A fever during chemotherapy needs emergency care the same day, even if the patient seems fine otherwise.
Small, fresh, home-cooked meals and plenty of clean water. If eating drops off for more than a couple of days, tell the team.
Questions come at night and vanish in the clinic. A short list on paper means the important ones get asked.
Caring is tiring. Share the load with other relatives where you can. The care team can talk with you as well as the patient.
Save the care team's number and the nearest emergency department's address in every family member's phone. In a crisis at night, nobody should be searching for them.
Consultations with Dr. T. Raghavender Reddy and chemotherapy both happen at CION L.B. Nagar. Operations and radiotherapy do not. If your plan includes either, your team names the centre that gives it and shares the estimate before you decide.
CION Cancer Clinics, Ground floor, Anu Arcade, H.No. 3-4-148, near L.B. Nagar Metro Station, RTC Colony, L.B. Nagar, Hyderabad 500074. It is beside the Metro station and about two minutes from the L.B. Nagar bus stop. The centre is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
Patients travel from Vanasthalipuram, Nagole, Hayathnagar, Dilsukhnagar, Uppal and Saroornagar. Being on the ground floor and next to the Metro helps patients who tire easily, and families who come by public transport after work.
You will not see the oncologist only on chemotherapy days. Blood tests, reviews and scan results bring you back in between. Many families find it easier to keep these short visits when the centre is on their own side of the city, rather than losing half a day in traffic for a short check.
Good to know
The centre is not an emergency department. For fever, bleeding or sudden breathlessness during treatment, go to the nearest emergency department first.
Myth
What is true: For several cancers they are given together on purpose, because the medicine helps the radiation work better. The two specialists plan the doses and timing jointly.
Myth
What is true: Medicines are often the main treatment for spread cancer. They can shrink it, ease pain and give people more good time. Your oncologist should be honest about what is realistic.
Myth
What is true: When chemotherapy causes hair loss, the hair usually grows back after treatment ends. It may come back a little different in texture at first.
Myth
What is true: Cancers can stop responding to a drug over time. Changing to another one is a normal step, planned for from the start.
