Beams aimed from a machine outside the body. The most common kind. You lie still, feel nothing, and go home after each visit.
A radiation source placed inside or right next to the tumour for a short time. Often part of treatment for cancer of the cervix.
Chemotherapy and radiation given in the same weeks, so each makes the other work better.
A few treatments aimed at easing pain or bleeding from cancer, rather than removing it.
A small number of very focused treatments for small tumours in places such as the brain or lung. Only some patients are suitable.
The more the doctor can see on the first day, the sooner a plan is possible.
This confirms the cancer and its type. If the slides or blocks are held at another hospital, bring the details, because a second look is sometimes needed.
Bring the CDs or films, not just the written reports. The radiation oncologist often needs to see the pictures to judge the area to treat.
If you have had surgery, the operation note and the report on the removed tissue tell the doctor where the cancer was and how much was taken.
Write down every medicine, including home remedies. Add the questions the family wants answered, so nothing is forgotten in the room.
Every case goes to CION’s network tumour board, where these specialists from CION’s centres join your doctor. Ask for any of them when you book.
Treat cancer with carefully aimed radiation.

Start with a Consultation
Ask for the doctor you want, or we’ll match you.

The care team asks what has been found and books a consultation. They tell you which doctor you will see and where. Mention any hospital that has already suggested radiation, so the right specialist is booked from the start.

An oncologist reviews your reports. If radiation may help, a meeting with Dr. Mohanty or Dr. Vajrala is arranged. Bring the family member who will share the daily travel, because the plan affects them too.

Surgeons, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists agree on the order of your treatment together. You then hear the recommendation, the alternatives and a written estimate before anything starts.

After a planning scan, daily radiotherapy starts at the centre your team named. Chemotherapy, if part of the plan, can be given at Masab Tank.

Reviews return to the CION team. A check scan is done some time after the course, once the treated area has settled. Keep reporting any new symptom between visits rather than saving it for the next appointment.
When not to wait for the next review
If someone having radiotherapy, especially with chemotherapy, gets a fever, shivering, bleeding, sudden breathlessness, or cannot keep down food or water, go to the nearest emergency department the same day. Tell them about the cancer treatment. Then call the CION care team. Do not wait for the next scheduled visit.
Myth
What is true: Most people come in for each short visit and go home. A stay is needed only for some internal treatments or when someone is very unwell. If your plan needs one, your radiation oncologist tells you in advance so the family can arrange it.
Myth
What is true: Tiredness during and after treatment is common and real, but for most people it fades over the following months. Long-term effects depend on the area treated, and your doctor explains them beforehand.
Myth
What is true: Only if your mouth, throat or bowel is being treated and the food hurts. Otherwise, eat what you enjoy. Keeping weight up matters more than a strict list.
Myth
What is true: It is one of the most important questions you can ask. A good team names the centre, explains the travel, and helps you plan around it. Families who ask early can sort out leave, transport and a place to stay before the first treatment day.
CION Masab Tank gives consultations and chemotherapy. If your plan combines chemotherapy with radiation, that part can happen here, in a day-care chair with nurses watching over you, and you go home the same day.
When chemotherapy and radiation overlap, your medical oncologist plans the chemotherapy days around the radiotherapy schedule and checks your blood counts before each dose. You do not have to coordinate the two teams yourself.
CION Masab Tank is at 10-1-1, Utkoor-Mogdumpur Road, AC Guards, Lakdikapul, Hyderabad 500028, about five minutes from Lakdikapul Metro and near the Masab Tank bus stop. It is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
Families from Lakdikapul, Khairatabad, Basheer Bagh, Nampally, Himayat Nagar and Mehdipatnam often start here. If another CION centre suits you better, the same helpline books it.

No. The centre gives consultations and chemotherapy. CION's radiation oncologists plan radiotherapy, and your care team names the centre that gives it. You know where it is, and get a written estimate, before you agree to anything.
Dr. Kirti Ranjan Mohanty (MBBS, MD Radiation Oncology) and Dr. Gangadhar Vajrala (MBBS, MD Radiation Oncology, MPH). They are part of the team serving Masab Tank. The care team tells you where and when each one sees patients, so call before you travel.
Usually every weekday for several weeks, though courses aimed at easing symptoms are often much shorter. Your radiation oncologist gives you the schedule. Ask at the first visit so the family can plan who goes along on each day.
Yes. Chemotherapy is given at CION Masab Tank as day-care. When it runs alongside radiation, your medical oncologist times the doses around your radiotherapy and checks your blood counts before each one.
Usually yes. Wash the treated area gently with lukewarm water, pat it dry and wear loose cotton. Avoid perfumed products and home pastes. Your team tells you which cream to use and when to call if the skin breaks.
Sometimes. More often it confirms the plan, which gives the family confidence. Bring the plan, scans and biopsy report from the other hospital. A CION oncologist explains whether they agree and why. It does not commit you to treatment at CION.
CION's team helps with cashless insurance and gives you a written estimate before you start. Bring your policy details to the first visit. If a government or employer scheme covers you, tell the care team when you call so they can check it.
No. You can book directly through the helpline or this page. A letter from your current doctor helps, but bringing every report and scan you already have matters more. Include older reports too, because the doctor is sometimes looking for a single line in an early test.
