Just had an operation
Ask whether radiation is advised, how soon after the wound heals it should start, and what the report on the removed tissue showed about the edges.
They plan radiotherapy with your surgeon and medical oncologist, and your care team names the centre that gives it. Call to check where and when your doctor is in.

Call the helpline or leave your number. The care team asks what has been found and books a consultation. Gather the biopsy, every scan with its images, any operation notes, and a list of the medicines the patient takes every day.

An oncologist goes through your reports. Your case is discussed at the tumour board, where the order of surgery, medicines and radiation is agreed. You hear the recommendation and the alternatives together, in words the family can repeat.

Dr. Mohanty or Dr. Vajrala explains the plan, the side effects and the centre where treatment is given. Ask every question the family has, including how the daily travel will work for the patient.

A planning scan maps the area in your exact position. Daily treatment then begins, with regular reviews by the doctor. Tell the staff at once about any new soreness, cough or trouble eating.
The useful questions change with the reason radiation has come up.
Ask whether radiation is advised, how soon after the wound heals it should start, and what the report on the removed tissue showed about the edges.
Ask whether the two run together or one after the other, and who watches your blood counts. Ask where each is given.
Ask whether a short course could ease the pain or protect a weak bone. Ask how soon relief usually starts, and what to take in the meantime.
Ask whether the same area can safely be treated again, what the earlier records show, and whether another approach would serve you better this time. Bring the old treatment summary.
Ask whether the course can be adjusted for their strength, whether a shorter schedule is reasonable, and what help is available on hard days.
Every case goes to CION’s network tumour board, where these specialists from CION’s centres join your doctor. Ask for any of them when you book.

CION Tolichowki gives consultations and chemotherapy. That covers the first conversation, much of the follow-up, and any chemotherapy that runs alongside your radiation.
Cancers of the cervix, head and neck and rectum are often treated with chemotherapy and radiation together. Your medical oncologist gives the chemotherapy here, checks your blood counts beforehand, and keeps the radiation team informed, so a change in one plan reaches the other.
CION Tolichowki is at 12-2-718, Khader Bagh Road, Padmanabha Nagar, Toli Chowki, Hyderabad 500008, near the Tolichowki bus stop. It is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Call the helpline for directions before your first visit.
People from Mehdipatnam, Attapur, Rethibowli, Nadeem Colony, Karwan and Langar Houz often find Tolichowki the closest CION centre. The same helpline books any other CION centre in Hyderabad if that suits you better.
CION Tolichowki is an outpatient centre, not an emergency department. If someone on radiotherapy develops a high fever, bleeding, sudden breathlessness or cannot keep down food and water, go to the nearest emergency department first. Tell them about the cancer treatment, then call the CION care team so your doctors know.
Good to know
This page cannot tell you whether radiation suits your cancer. Your reports and the tumour board can.
Myth
What is true: Modern planning shapes the beam closely to the target. The skin may redden, darken a little or peel in the treated area, much like sunburn, and usually heals after the course. Report any broken or weeping skin early.
Myth
What is true: With beam radiotherapy, nothing stays in the body and family life can go on as usual. Some internal treatments for cervical cancer have brief advice, which your doctor explains.
Myth
What is true: Some weight loss is common, but a lot of it can make the treatment fit less well and slow healing. Tell the team early if eating becomes hard. Food advice and support help.
Myth
What is true: A different area can often be treated later if needed, and sometimes even the same area with careful planning. Your radiation oncologist checks your past treatment before deciding.

No. CION Tolichowki gives consultations and chemotherapy. CION's radiation oncologists plan your radiotherapy, and your care team names the centre that gives it. You are told where it is, and given a written estimate, before you agree to anything.
Yes. Dr. Kirti Ranjan Mohanty (MBBS, MD Radiation Oncology) and Dr. Gangadhar Vajrala (MBBS, MD Radiation Oncology, MPH) are part of the team that serves Tolichowki. The care team tells you where and when each one sees patients and books the visit for you.
Most full courses mean visits every weekday for several weeks. Courses to ease pain can be much shorter. Your radiation oncologist gives you the schedule for your case. Ask early so you can arrange transport and help for the later weeks.
Often, yes. Age alone does not rule it out. The doctor looks at how well your parent manages day to day, other illnesses and the aim of treatment. Courses can be adjusted, and the doctor will tell you honestly if a gentler approach makes more sense.
Mostly. Eat regular meals with enough protein and drink plenty of fluids. If your mouth, throat or bowel is in the treated area, softer or blander food may be easier. The team gives advice specific to your treatment.
Yes. Chemotherapy is given at CION Tolichowki. When it runs alongside radiation, your medical oncologist times the doses and checks your blood counts first, and keeps the radiation team informed.
CION's team helps with cashless insurance and gives you a written estimate before you start. Bring your policy details to the first visit. If a government or employer scheme covers you, say so when you call so the team can check it.
Yes. Bring the plan, scans and biopsy report. A CION oncologist goes through it, tells you whether they agree, and explains any difference. It does not commit you to treatment at CION, and it rarely delays the start by much.
